From the weekly world news. I like this one also:

"Excited Swiss scientists say they've found the "eject button" inside your head that catapults your soul from your body when you die!"

:)

Officials are quite confident the "time-traveler's" claims are bogus. Yet the SEC source admits, "No one can find any record of any Andrew Carlssin existing anywhere before December 2002."

 Someone's been watching startrek

However, he refuses to reveal the location of the machine or discuss how it works, supposedly out of fear the technology could "fall into the wrong hands."

I think I know where it is....

I guess this guy wanted to do it the hard way.

The way I figure it, I spend more on lunch today that the average household made in several months 200 years ago. Why wouldn't a guy from the future simply hit the ATM before his trip, take out the equivalent of $100, then live like a king on it when he got here?

I guess he was afraid that nobody would be able to break a $1,000,000 bill.

Claim:   Man arrested for insider trading attributes his financial success to time travel.

'TIME-TRAVELER' BUSTED FOR INSIDER TRADING
Wednesday March 19, 2003

By CHAD KULTGEN

NEW YORK -- Federal investigators have arrested an enigmatic Wall Street wiz on insider-trading charges -- and incredibly, he claims to be a time-traveler from the year 2256!

Sources at the Security and Exchange Commission confirm that 44-year-old Andrew Carlssin offered the bizarre explanation for his uncanny success in the stock market after being led off in handcuffs on January 28.

"We don't believe this guy's story -- he's either a lunatic or a pathological liar," says an SEC insider.

"But the fact is, with an initial investment of only $800, in two weeks' time he had a portfolio valued at over $350 million. Every trade he made capitalized on unexpected business developments, which simply can't be pure luck.

"The only way he could pull it off is with illegal inside information. He's going to sit in a jail cell on Rikers Island until he agrees to give up his sources."

Origins:   All one need know about this article is that it originated with the Weekly World News, an entertainment tabloid devoted to inventing fantastically fictitious stories while keeping its tongue firmly embedded in its cheek to a depth not measurable by any instrument known to man. Unfortunately, Yahoo!, a primary news source for many people on the Internet, reprints some Weekly World News articles in their TV News section under a heading of "Entertainment News & Gossip," a title that doesn't convey a strong "bogus" warning to readers who don't notice the original source is the Weekly World News (or don't know what the Weekly World News is).

Ya know...

When I discovered the source was the weekly world news (the only clue that Yahoo news reprinted it from WWN was at the very bottom, saying "The Weekly World News is continuing to follow this story")... I was a bit taken aback.

I thought Yahoo news reprinted stories from legit sources... mainly from the wires. I'd never heard of WWN, and went to check it out (yahoo offered no link) to see if there were any updates to this stock trading story. When I got to the WWN website, it was a tabloid comic book.

So it's like... great. How much other crap is Yahoo reprinting that's from totally bogus sites?... as if it were some kinda joke. I mean, the idea that some guy made a killing off the stock market, but is also nuts in the head and tried to convince the SEC that he's from the future isn't outside the realm of reality. *His* story is bogus, but the story itself doesn't neccessarily have to be.

Gotsta double check every source from them now (time consuming) or better yet, ignore anything from yahoo's little news service.

Ok! That's the end of my rant. Thank you. I'll be here all week.

Oh great... *another* vague source. :)

What's GRU? Did a google search and nothing seemed in context unless the Gainsville Regional Utilities has become the last bastion of truth in cyberspace. :)

he whole thing is making me feeling like a web newbie now....

Glavnoye Razvedyvatelnoye Upravlenie (GRU), Russia's military-intelligence arm.

You were reading -am- when he was posting the latest views of the war from the Russian prism, right?

Didn't he cite the GRU as one of his sources? Maybe I have mis-remembered.

He's just blatantly anti american.  Not all of what he posts is fiction, but it seems like he stays up all night looking for every bad thing that happened to the US, so he can post it.

I haven't seen him post any stories of the woman the iraqis shot and threw over the bridge.

Or the tank they parked in the hostpital

or the civilians the made stand around their soldiers.

or the people they shot at while trying to leave Basra

etc etc.
