Title: Psy Ops
Post by: Martlet on April 01, 2003, 11:43:06 AM
Anyone see the story on the Psy Ops taking place?

I'm trying to find a link to send my buddy.

Is this the Psy Ops that was supposed to make the whole thing a cake walk?

They seemed to put an awful lot of faith in it... and then the combat started.

Kind of reminds me of the scene from 'Air America' where the Intel officer is trying to persuade the skeptical pilots that playing the sounds of screaming women and death would scare the VC. Or by dropping huge condoms, they would be convinced the Americans had huge nobs, which would make them seem like supermen.

I wonder if they tried either of them, this time around...

Seems to be working pretty good.  I remember how it works, but the story had some statistics with it I can't remember.

I'd be interested as to how they quantify PsyOps effectiveness.

Personally, I've never considered Psychology to be a real science.

This was something different, are we both talking about the imitation tanks, or are you thinking of something different?

No, I was talking about the rock music out the loud speakers, like Norieaga (sp?).

I see. So they pretend to be tanks and feint an attack? I can see why that might be effective.

They take a Tank and two humvees, one with a loudspeaker.  They drive around the enemy lines playing recordings of a bunch of tanks, and fire flares over the iraqi positions.

Apparently the Iraqis start firing and/or change their positions, then they call in an air strike.

They said it's working well, but I can't find the statistics.

A soldier on a humvee yelling SURRENDER AND GET FOOD on a loudspeaker

and a bunch of F-18's dropping leaflets on  how to surrender (and 3 hours later returning and dropping real bombs)

I thought maybe we were using a mind-melding technique with Jedis sitting in black Humvees reaching out to control the thought patterns of the Iraqi guards.

"I find your lack of faith disturbing."
