Title: news on deaths of women and kids at checkpoint
Post by: anonymous on April 02, 2003, 03:10:41 PM
"The New York Post reports that Sahid Mohammed Bakir Almohari, a "prominent Muslim cleric," says Saddam's men are to blame for yesterday's shooting of seven Iraqis in a van who ran an allied checkpoint. "These people, children and women, those were put in the bus by Saddam Hussein's forces, their husbands or fathers were taken hostages and the driver was ordered to speed up to the checkpoint and not stop so that they would be shot at," Almohari tells Fox News Channel."

Would american wifes do drive right into death with their babies with them because they loove their husbands more than their babies?

Maybe the Saddamites didn't give them a full briefing on their mission before they locked them into the van?
Maybe they only told the driver ,who obviously wasn't a woman?

I suppose you put faith in the NY Times? Talk about your left-wing liberally slanted newspapers:rolleyes:

i'd take times over post any time of the day. Difference in the level of profesionalism is huge. I don't know why people rag on times for "liberal" slant, them seem to get just as much crap from the other side for being "conservative".
Overall it's  a profesional newspaper. Post on the other hand is a gutter filler. Sensationalism and exploitation across the board.

its been reported else where before it was in the NY Post. Dismissing it out right because it was also reported in the post is stupid. It may or may not be true but the fact that a particular source reports it as well doesnt make it false.

And only a liberal would claim the NY Times isnt a liberal Newspaper.

This is too convinient.

Really? In what way? Even if its not true the bus didnt stop. The soldiers fired to protect themselves. They need no excuse whether these folks were forced to run the check point or not.

There will be an investigation regardless.

If you were in a war zone would you drive at high speed into a military check point? Especially, after your state media reported a "martyr bomb" just killed several soldiers at a similiar check point.

I must be really dense cause I dont get your point blitz? Are you saying that because they did that to save thier husbands lifes that the govenment of suddam is really a caring and helpfull government and that the coalition of countrys trying to free the Iraqi people from that govenment is wrong to do it?

Or maybe because the american govenment would not force the wives and children to do this that some how the wives of American service men are not equal to Iraqi wives.

What kind of sick twisted mind could possibly think that forcing woman and children into a situation that will cause thier deaths is some kind of great thing to be bragged about.

Now I am not in Iraq and was not a witness to the shooting. However I did read a alledged interview with the HUSBAND AND FATHER of the woman and children that was driving the land rover. They where actually fleeing the murding oppressive govenment of Iraq running to the protection of the American army and due to some miscomunication from the US army personal the order to stop was perceived by the FATHER of the children that were killed as to be being waved tru the checkpoint.
This man who dressed in his best suit a black one with white pinstripes so he could look as AMERICAN as possible to greet the AMERICAN liberators that were taking out of power the evil government that has murdered and opressed so many of his countrymen.

After the shooting he had been hit and knocked out. He woke up the the face of an American service man balling his eyes out telling him how sorry he was that it was a mistake they thought the truck was driven by a suicide bomber. At that point the driver of the landrover cursed the name of saddam and said this was all saddams fault.

It really suprises me that the people that are free today paid for by the blood of American service personel. Are so eager to deny the Iraqi people the same freedoms that they enjoy everyday. What have the Iraqi people done that is so bad that they deserve to live under the boot of a man and family as evil as suddam hussain. In every town that has been cleared of Iraqi goventment personel the Iraqis are welcoming the liberators just as Mr Bush said they would.

War is a terrible wastfull dirty deadly thing! But sometimes it is the only way to make change happen. The blood of young men and woman from all over the world is bleeding into the sand of
Iraq right now staining the earth with the price of freedom for the Iraqi people!

You are free to your opinion as I am free to mine. You might try to remember who paid for your freedom in blood I will never forget who paid for mine. I bet in a couple years you ask the average Iraqi who they owe thier freedom to they will know.
They owe it to the Coalition blood that stains the ground of thier nation from north to south east to west.

I have never known opression myself but I have lived and breathed freedom all my life and would gladly give whats left of it to help someone else know the freedom that I have known.

I saw the interview with the cleric that made the claim.  I wondered at the time how he could know the exact story behind the taxi driver and the family in the van.  I have a tendancy to think he was transposing his views of the regime onto the incidents.

I also have a tendancy to think the link posted by majic is closer to the truth.

This was a tragedy.  More than a few people were confused and the result was horrible.  They definately need to revisit the check point setup and policy.

BTW... I also think the soldiers did the right thing.  This was obviously a logistics problem.  The set of instructions they gave the soldiers and the set they dropped out of aircraft for the people were slightly conflicting.  Though... driving up to a checkpoint after warning shots have been fired is... well... sad.

STFU, Blitch![/size]

I'm as happy as a little girl. - Dieter aka "Blitz"

D: Welcome to Sprockets. I am your host, Dieter [pronounced DEE-
tah].

D: It has been a very busy week here in Berlin. Jourgen von Keitel's exhibit "Scabs On Canvas" opened at the Schussel Calle,
the Gertrude Bromf troupe previewed their performance in wax at the Theater of Unhappiness, and the Berlin wall was dismantled. For the masses the wall's collapse represents freedom and opportunity. But for me, it is a chance to meet the most brilliant countercultural filmmaker in the East, Gregor Voss. Seen here on East German television last year, Voss, the suppressed visionary whose films include "The Dead Coat", "Irritant Number 4", and "Here Child, Finish Your Nothing", he entered the West three days ago, and has agreed to appear on Sprockets and speak with me, his greatest fan. Please welcome Gregor Voss.

D: Welcome to Sprockets, Gregor Voss.

GV: Whoo! Yah, is great to be here, Dieter.

D: Gregor Voss, your presence intimidates me to the point of
humiliation. Would you care to strike me?

GV: This is fantastic I can't believe I'm here! Hello West Berlin!
Ich bin ein West Berliner!

D: Tell me, in your film, Irritant Number 4, the only two images
were a baby's head and a toilet. Did you mean for me to scream?

GV: Scream, ya, ya, ya. Look at this, look at this, Dieter, I've
got great stuff here. Mountain Dew! A Remington Microscreen! They tell me it shaves as close as a blade.

D: I see genius. By seemingly embracing the cliches of the West, he is underscoring its excruciating banality.

GV: And look at this Dieter, it is a pie, but like no pie I have
ever seen!

D: Perfect. You are a master of, of exposing tedium. Let us look at
a clip from one of your classic films.

[ Clip ]

D: That film looks at me while I am naked and calls it's friends.

GV: (playing handheld football game) Touchdown! Hey Dieter, I figured the trick, everytime when the linebacker moves to the middle you should run a sweep to the right, it
always works..

D: Your story has become tiresome.

(offstage voice): Hey Gregor, when are you going to be done?

GV: Hey, just a minute guys. Dieter, do you want to come along with us? We rented a LeBaron.

D: Excuse me Gregor, but you have disturbed me almost to the point of insanity. There, I am insane now. Gregor, you were the greatest altar of emptiness, my personal idol. And now I watch you drink beer from a hat.

GV: That's easy for you to say Dieter, you grew up with this stuff.

D: I would never drink from headgear.

GV: Ohh, I don't feel so good...

D: Idiot.

GV: I'm sorry, its just all that Mountain Dew, and then this pie..

D: You may not touch my monkey. You may not touch my
monkey!

GV: I'm going to be sick.

D: Now is the time on Sprockets when we dance. That's all the time we have, until next time, auf Wiedersehen!

GV: Dieter, we're meeting some girls, we're meeting some girls
later, come on Dieter!
