Title: The Spotlights on 20 mil cannons?
Post by: BGBMAW on April 02, 2003, 04:54:40 PM
The DOD footage they play of the ground forces at night...

They look like spot lights..but i cant imagine showing yourself where your firing from like that

But then it almost looks like laser  that shows up thru the smoke..

When the camera which is nightvision green style it shows a bright  blur around the 20 mil cannon which is mounted on top of Humvees...

so..

what is this bright blur around the guns..(even when they are not firing)

what is the lazer like beam of light going to target?/

BTW..dam thos short barrled 20 mils are baddddddddddddd prettythang$

It's probably a Mk 19 40 mm grenade launcher, not a 20 mm gun.
The light is probably an IR spotlight.

ahh..but do the 40 mm launchers fire so quik? I was seeing 3 round burts rattled out 1 after another...DAM I want one!!

IR ..makes sense..thx..

But why is it so brigth at its source??(looks like a brigth a ss ligth around the gun) Is it just  a IR camera image that does it? And if itwas a regular camera you would not see it right?

Thx Funked:)

The Mk 19 fires 60 rounds/minute in rapid fire and has a 325 to 375 rounds/minute cyclic rate.  Its maximum range is 2,200 meters (2,405 yards) and a maximum effective range of 1,550 meters (1,695 yards).  Muzzle velocity of the grenade is 790 feet/second.  Overall length is 41.5 inches (Mk 19 Mod 3).

So yeah it fires pretty damn fast.

I wonder if that was  inspired by the MK108 30mm?

I think the operation is more like an M2 Browning.

Dayummm!

I bet you won't see that watermelon on Ebay...or maybe you will LOL

I'm willing to bet some red-neck wannabe poser in West Virginia, like my ex's brother, is working on trying to make one just like it!:D

I think it's OICW or did they change the name?
The one in GR sucks, only has impact fuzing on the 20 mm, and has no fire control system.  A game with a real OICW would rock.  :)

Here's an article on it:  http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/military/1998/9/army_wonder_weapon/print.phtml
