With the recent influx of newbies and increased numbers AH has is getting ready to enter a new era: The Commercial Era. This game will become the Hershey's bar of flight sims. We will likely see 1000+ numbers on any given night soon and hopefully HTC will be able to handle this new load. With the update scheduled for Q3 we've got a while to wait with hopefully something to keep our thirst quenched. For me though, I'm beginning to lose interest in something I once loved and I'm not exactly sure why.
For one, most of the old and color faces arent around anymore. Secondly, when I log into the MA, I find Trinity. Now this map isnt bad when you have 400+ or the front lines arent still at the mountains but this thing has choke points where *Everyone* is forced to fight particuarly at the apex of the lake regions before going deeper inland where the mountains start to rise. I along with presumably many others based on the Map don't care to fly 30 mins just to get around or over a few mountains and also fly to the base you're trying to get to for maybe 30 seconds of fight.
My point is, there seems to be no reason or purpose. Yeah, I can grab a few 1ks and go to a base and battle those menacing town buildings, but how fun is that and how does that effect the big picture? I can join a mission, but these are usually milkruns/gangbangs. See Above reasons. Even shooting down that Spitfire with 8 blazing .50cals doesn't really bring about a sense of accomplishment. That guy is just upping again 20 miles away. AHII will fix these ailes. Maybe? Maybe Not? Anyone else feel the same? Any suggestions to pique my interest in new ways? So before this becomes an uncontrolled whine/rant I just want to say......
BRING ON AH2!!!:)

yep i loved this game, now i can only bring myself to play trinity for about 30 mins at a time... but i can fly islands or pizza all night..
trin is nice to look at but has no passion.. and so teams dont fight for the bases the same...
the game is not updated enough(map turn over) put a time limit on the maps 2 days max..
anothe thing that might work is have two MA 1939 - 1941 and 1941 to 1945 ..im all for the combat theater, but lets face it, it has never been a success..
also what ever happened to the mission areana HTC was pushing 6 months back..
I for one am getting pretty fed up like rightfoot and there is no one reason . so it must be all of it.
thank god IL2 FB is around at the moment( not great on line, but a change from AH) seen many of you in there already..
AH2 is comming along soon i hope.

When I do manage to get in some AH time at night, I just find the biggest mass of red dots and green dots on the map and head on over that way. I die alot and I kill alot but it sure is fun to me:)

I have much the same problems. I work 2nd shift so my flight times are between 11pm and 6am EST. When trinity is up, it is pretty much worthless. It's a NICE map, but it;s designed for 400+ players...when it is under 200 at my hours, I have to take off, grab for 20 minutes over the mountains, and then hope that enemy counter i saw is still there for one fight. I normally like flying challenging birds, but I almost need a g10 or pony to maintain sanity on trinity. I don't think i've done more then 4 missions before logging in over a month...
EDIT: To add a possible solution instead of just gripe..how about either a 2nd arena for smaller maps, or a server that plays with large maps from noon-midnight and small maps from midnight-noon...The maps could retain their status so the fight could be continued the next day. I realize that this would require either a new arena or twice a day maintenance...but c'mon...1000 people paying 15 bucks deserve that.

That's what AH2:Tod is.
ack-ack

I had the EXACT same problems 2 weeks ago... I was planning to cancel my account on March 31st. But then I found the 109-G2, and AH is fun again :D

I'm planning on a different tour. Flying a squeakkitty. I hate the plane, suck in it. But damm it, I'm gonna fly it and pad the scores of the MEN in the weeds.

you are bored , you need a change , get a tiger and go hunting enemy GV's

Well, I think that guy driving odd cars named Lazs (the guy, not the cars) had it right all along.
CV furballs(tm)... forget all about that base thingie, too many of them on Trinity anyway :)
-
Surprised at how ppl can fly pizza all day and only stand short periods of trinity...
Pizza encourages the avoidance of combat.... the team who avoids combat and captures the 'easiest' bases wins...
Most booring map in the game IMO

Personally I am with Rightfoot on this, Trinity has no purpose, and to me is just plain boring. How about putting a historical map and letting us fight over that, or install a time limit too a map. AH just is not as enjoyable as it was before I got caught up trying to help my brother. A few weeks after his death, when I came back, it just lost it's interest. I hope AH2 changes that, because I miss the fun of AH before the mass marketing idea.

I've seen some pretty amazing scenerio maps, that with a little rework would go fit nicely into the rotation.
I'd like to see HTC take advantage of that particular resource.
-
I like Trinity up to a point, but prefer Pizza. The other maps get tedious, as they are tailor made to support gangbangs, and cater to "The Kidz". All maps are greatly affected by the time of day. You might see 600+ players, or as few as 80. -Makes a big difference.

> All,
Rightfoot, I agree with part of your opinion. AH is becoming increasingly commercial. I just hope the same thing doesn't happen here that happened (so i hear) with AW; the game became to big for their britches and STOPPED listening to its players. HT< take note!!! I am disappointed to see so many "older" AH players leave in disgust, as I have recently.
Trinity: love it.
I think Trinity is aesthetically pleasing, and quite frankly enjoy the view from 24k. I don't have any more problems fighting in this arena than any other. I don't understand everyone saying that it takes so much longer to get to a target destination because of mountains. There is a suitable route from each field, you just have to plot your course a little better than "point your plane in the right direction and hit alt+x." One major difference in this map is you can't take off from a base and go afk for 25 min while you fly to target. (mountain my smack you!) It just takes us more ATTENTION to get to a target, since you have to actually fly to your destination. I will agree, this is a little inconvenient, since I love to go afk while I travel. Oh well.
The map is gorgeous; I love some of the field placements. Especially those ones tucked in the cove along the river, in a mountain valley, too cool! I still hate Pizza.

Its all very dynamic. Biggest problem is overplaying the game.
Too many people confuse too many issues with simple burnout.
Ive got probably, oh....lets say at least 1,800 hours in this game.
If you were to bar graph those hours over every consecutive month since Sept 99 you would see a simple trend: Yeager gets burned out. The game has not changed/improved enough to keep yeager completely interested.
Im hoping that AH2 includes all the improvements that have been so noticably absent these past nine months but I suspect Im on the way out, slowly but surely. Still having some fun though, just not as much.
-
Yeager is correct in saying "Too many people confuse too many issues with simple burnout.". AH is not a game you can (or even should) play every day.
I also agree with -ammo- "I just find the biggest mass of red dots and green dots on the map and head on over that way.". The size of the maps only becomes an issue if you are putting base capture and map resets ahead of having fun.
Don't take this game too seriously. Fly the events, and for goodness sake try to make sure you are getting out into the sunshine more than flying AH.

Trinity has had some really classic battle sites.
A214, with V2 and V7 spawning to it from either end.
A199, with carriers always lurking around.
There are a few others but I can't recall their numbers.
Trinity is pretty fun map to fight on because it lends itself to fluid battle lines and concentrations of forces. I like the terrain topography and graphics. Its probably my favorite of the big maps.
