Title: Canadian Apology to the US
Post by: Pongo on April 05, 2003, 05:12:16 PM
Canadian Apology to theUnited States of America.
From the CBC Television program
"This Hour Has 22 Minutes" - Rick Mercer

"On behalf of Canadians everywhere I'd like to offer an apology to theUnited States of America. We haven't been getting along very well recently and for that, I am truly sorry.
I'm sorry we called George Bush a moron. He is a moron but, it
wasn't nice of us to point it out. If it's any consolation, the fact
that he's a moron shouldn't reflect poorly on the people of America.
After all, it's not like you actually elected him.
I'm sorry about our softwood lumber. Just because we have more trees than you doesn't give us the right to sell you lumber that's cheaper and better than your own.

I'm sorry we beat you in Olympic hockey. In our defense, I guess our excuse would be that our team was much, much, much, much better than yours.

I'm sorry we burnt down your White House during the war of 1812. I notice you've rebuilt it! It's very nice.

I'm sorry about your beer. I know we had nothing to do with your
beer but, we feel your pain.

I'm sorry about our waffling on Iraq. I mean, when you're going up against a crazed dictator, you wanna have your friends by your side.
I realize it took more than two years before you guys pitched in  against Hitler, but that was different. Everyone knew he had weapons.

And finally on behalf of all Canadians, I'm sorry that we're
constantly apologizing for things in a passive-aggressive way that
is really a thinly veiled criticism. I sincerely hope that you're not upset over this.

We've seen what you do to countries you get upset with. Thank you."

I don't think this comedic parody on a government financed TV network represents the way true Canadians feel about our U.S. friends.  When I say "true", I'm referring to the majority of the taxpayer base who fiscally carry the greatest burden, so our majority of Liberal party supporting residents can enjoy the best welfare system in the world, combined with free universal health care.

Jean Cretien is a lame duck Prime Minister on his last term, who behaves like an aging monarch and possesses some of the worst foreign policy acumen in country's history.  He thought Taiwan was in the middle east and was an absolute embarrassment when he visited Israel and put his foot in his mouth day after day.  It took him 30 days to decide that 9/11 was a bad thing (needed to take some polls to check first), then when he did comment on it he ostensibly blamed the victims for being arrogant in their political polices.  His government ministers are just as bad, continually distinguished by their constant scandals and corrupt patronage practices.  Most of them couldn't get a job outside of government and the Liberals only survive in power because we have no substantial opposition party to get rid of them. Cretien is celebrating is 40th year in the federal government which just about sums up why he's as bad as he is.  He's never had a real job or had to work a day in his life.

I used to be proud to be Canadian, but now I'm simply ashamed and embarrassed (http://agw.warbirdsiii.com/bbs/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17964) to tell anyone where I'm from.

I'm really sorry that the 4th ID went to Iraq.  I was hoping they'd cross the border and liberate us from the petty little benevolent dictatorship we've got running up here.  I guarantee you, other then the assorted terrorists we've imported under our ludicrous refugee practices, the majority of Canadians would be out in the streets waving U.S. flags as you set us free, so that we'd have the opportunity to restore true democracy to this country.  I'm not sure how else we're going to get rid of this ongoing pathetic and corrupt political leadership.

Regards,
Badger

That wonderful little parody sounds to me like some whine that originated in Quebec....  home of the wonderful idea called... liberte du Quebec.  Now thats a wise bunch talking, maybe if they pulled their heads outta their tulips and looked around they might realise they didn't have to be drunk all the time.  Then again, living in Quebec would prolly keep me drunk too.

Yes, but the difference in our political systems is yours allowed you to get rid of him by the electorate and your length of term rules.

This clown we have could serve forever.  I've seen complaints about Bush's ability to speak well in his speeches.  Compared to Cretien who apparently speaks neither official language, Bush appears downright articulate and a master of verbal communication. ;)

Let's hope Cretien doesn't change his mind about retiring............

Housing market sucked? Care to provide some facts. I don't know where you live, but houses appreciated 70% under clinton.

Give me the avg price of a single family home b4 clinton, then after. Show me facts to back up your claim.

BTW, what does welfare have to do with it?

I can only tell you that I am a house builder and the intrest rates now are less than 5%

I know, I was there waving a U.S. flag.  Unfortunately, I almost go in a "punch out" with an anti-U.S. protester who tried to grab and rip it.  Not good for an old guy, but the flag and I survived to fight another day. ;)

1. Interests are low because they are trying to keep the economy afloat because less people are employed now than in the clinton years.

2.More people had jobs during the clinton years and unemployment was at an all time low,so I don't understand why you couldn't find work, unless you didn't want to work.

3. prices are cheaper? prices of what? Don't say houses or material to build them. I live in Ma., where the avg price of a single family home is now 300k.

Hah, I realize you're being sarcastic to pick on poor Lazs, but use facts at least.

The 3660 people who have been shot in Toronto alone since January 1 1997 sure benefit from 1.5 Billion dollars spent on a registry that is 140% inaccurate.

In no Province or City is Pot "legal", it is still a criminal code offence to possess, traffic, or cultivate mary j.

wow... two canadians called me a handsomehunk..  both liberals.

as for your economy hitting the stratosphere while ours wallows... maybe... depends on who is keeping score.   probly comparing what each countries dollar will buy is a better way tho..  standard of living... that kinda thing.

say... since you have so much excess cash these days how bout you potheads contribute to the rebuilding of iraq?   for sure they could use some soft timber.   Probly don't have much use for hockey tho.    best just send the cash.   I mean.... better late than never eh?

wow... dubass and.... lunker?   by liberal canadians yet..  if you're so tough why didn't you go over and help the sadman repulse the U.S. imperialist invaders?

I don't know if eirther one of u is a handsomehunk..

I would reserve that kinda thing for in person tho.   I do know that you both seem to be kneejerk liberals and that would make some think you were indeed .... handsomehunk's.

I have no idea why, of all the "causes" a person could advocate in that avatar thingie... he would choose the dummy drug... especially if he didn't smoke it himself.   such a minor unimportant thing really.

The Ottawa Village Fool Strikes Again (http://www.nationalpost.com/home/story.html?id=FA89E3B2-8A6F-4731-BA47-4418FE00B7DD)

A large majority of Canadians -- 72% -- believe Canada should have supported the U.S. at the start of the war against Iraq, according to an exclusive National Post/Global News poll

Jean Chrétien is to give a speech in the House of Commons today endorsing the Bush administration's "mission" in Iraq and asking MPs to declare formal support for a quick victory by coalition forces.

The Prime Minister will speak in favor of a government motion designed to show solidarity with U.S. and British forces in Iraq and hope for their victory, even though Canada refused to join the coalition against Saddam.

The motion affirms "the unbreakable bonds" of values and family Canadians share with the United States and Great Britain.

What a surprise!  It took him over a month to decide 9/11 was a bad thing, then blamed the U.S. for its arrogant foreign policies as the cause.  Now he's decided that since its almost over and it looks like the good guys are going to win, that maybe he'd better cover his ass.

Disgusting.......... I'm simply ashamed and embarrassed (http://agw.warbirdsiii.com/bbs/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17964) to tell anyone where I'm from.

Regards,
Badger

BTW, you mentioned welfare rolls were up during that period(again factless), when in fact they were down. The reason for this was because everyone had a job.

Title: Canadian citizen killed in Iraq while serving with US forces: official
Post by: Rasker on April 09, 2003, 02:13:54 PM
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20030409/wl_canada_afp/iraq_war_canada_us_030409162849
2 hours, 43 minutes ago

TORONTO (AFP) - A Canadian citizen, who was serving with the US Marines, was killed in Iraq (news - web sites), becoming the first Canadian to be killed in combat in the US-led war there, Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed.

AFP Photo

"Yes, he was (a Canadian citizen). He was (serving) with the US Marine Corps," said departmental spokesman Reynald Doiron.

"We were notified by the US embassy yesterday" of Corporal Bernard Gooden's death, Doiron said, noting there were few details available about the incident.

The 22-year-old US Marine corporal, whose parents live in Ontario as well as New York, was killed in a gun battle in central Iraq on Friday, according to The Globe and Mail.

He emigrated to Canada from Jamaica in 1997 and became a Canadian citizen on May 2002. The paper said he joined the US Marines in June 2001.

Canada, which has not officially supported the US-led war in Iraq, has three ships, a handful of planes and some 1,000 troops in the Persian Gulf region, continuing to serve in the war against terrorism.

Among the troops are 31 soldiers who are integrated with coalition forces on the ground in Iraq as part of an exchange training program.

Doiron said he was not aware of anything that would impede a Canadian citizen from serving in a foreign military service.

Lazs, Hockey is that thing invented by Canadians that they play on ice or something.  It's an Olympic sport that Canada is very proud to have won the gold medal in 2002.   Of course, they neglect to mention that the last time they won it prior to that was 1952.  :p  We won it twice in that time period.
