I found this joke in my mailbox:
Buch decided to visit some schools to increase his popularity.
The students are given the opportunity to ask some questions. Little Bob is first:
"Mister President, I've got 3 questions:
1. How did you get President although you got fewer votes?
2. Why are you going to war against Iraq without a real reason?
3. Don't you think the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima was the biggest terror attack of all times?"
Bell rings, the lesson is over. The kids leave the room. After the break they continue the questioning. The next student gets to ask:
"Mister President, I've got 5 questions:
1. How did you get President although you got fewer votes?
2. Why are you going to war against Iraq without a reason?
3. Don't you think the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima was the biggest terror attack of all times?
4. Why did the bell ring 20 minutes earlier than usual?
5. Where's Bob?"

It's the Liberal numerical system.
1+1+1=whatever suits our interest.

Here is a map of areas won by Bush.

The president is appointed by the electoral college IIRC, not directly elected by the population. The electoral college is a committee of electors, each state providing a number depending on their level of representation in congress(?).
I hope that's right, been a while since Govt&Pol 101.
I imagine I'll be corrected if I'm wrong.

Bush won more States and more electoral votes
Gore had about 200,000 more votes of the popular vote.... an almost insignificant number considering the total votes. The popular vote doesn't decide the result.
Officially Bush got 48% of the popular vote and Gore got 48%
Bush won 30 states, Gore 21 < edit> that's 51 states...lol, maybe they gave Gore Florida as well :) I guess DC counts for a state.
Bush 271 electoral votes, Gore 266
As close election yes, but Bush won the election.

ahh i see, thx!

Kennedy - Nixon was even closer. Yet there were no demands of recounts from Nixon if I remember correctly...
