Title: Iraqi information minister
Post by: Hortlund on April 08, 2003, 02:31:31 AM
I really hope that guy survives the war. There is something so immensly charming about him with his smirk smile and funny beret. And that guy has a brilliant career as a stand up comedian waiting for him here in the west. I have been laughing my as$ off at his comments. Sometimes I'm not even sure whether he believes what he is saying himself. Because if he doesnt, he is the master of keeping a straight face. I mean think about it, could you stand infront of the world media claiming victory for the Iraqis while the US tanks are surrounding your capital?

Yesterdays highlights:
Quote

They are sick in their minds. They say they brought 65 tanks into center of city. I say to you this talk is not true. This is part of their sick mind.

Quote

The infidels are committing suicide by the hundreds on the gates of Baghdad... Be assured, Baghdad is safe, protected. Iraqis are heroes.

Quote
They tried to bring a small number of tanks and personnel carriers in through al-Durah but they were surrounded and most of their infidels had their throats cut. "We made them drink poison last night [Sunday] and Saddam Hussein's soldiers and his great forces gave the Americans a lesson which will not be forgotten by history. Truly.

Quote
I can say, and I am responsible for what I am saying, that they have started to commit suicide under the walls of Baghdad. We will encourage them to commit more suicides quickly.

Hillarious!!

(btw, does anyone know what happened to am's daily russian intel reports? It would be interesting to see their take on the past few days)

Even funnier is their propensity to constantly point out how they predicted a particular event while completely and utterly ignoring every incorrect assumption or prediction they've made.  Like how several days ago they insisted that it would take 80,000 to 100,000 coalition soldiers to engage Baghdad, and how the Americans would not attempt anything until the 4th ID moved up from Kuwait.

Oops!  Guess they got that one wrong, but I don't see them admitting it.

I was just about to start a thread in the exact same vein. I hope he survives the war. That smirk and all the rhetoric about crushing and massacring is just great. He makes me chuckle everytime I see him.

I hope he's not a war criminal and is just some poor schmuck with the worst job in the world.

LOL yeah, that first day when he was posing with a never-fired-never-used-AK47 together with that fat general.

I got a good feeling that day too, because it looked like some modern Abbot-Costello variant was shaping up.

But regretfully, the fat General has been keeping in the background lately.

No one cares about the demise of the previously mentioned Chemical Ali (now there, Tam, was a war criminal for you!), but I'm rather hoping that if one Saddamite survives the war in Iraq, it will be Comical Saeed, the information minister.

His has been an amazing act - Goebbels meets Groucho Marx. Remember, "There are no American infidels in Baghdad. Never!"? Or, "The Americans are not at the airport, they are 100km away!"? And my favourite, when asked whether he had seen Saddam Hussein, "Have I seen him? This question is none of your business!"

For nearly three weeks, almost unaided, Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf has faced hundreds of foreign media types, and conjured up vast, imaginary legions of resisting Saddam-loving Iraqis and certain annihilation for the invaders. His very imperturbability has suggested to many that he knew something that they didn't, that the emperor was armoured from head to foot. How does he do it?

Fox has been doing a really different newscast.  I like it.  They come up with some great names for people.

"Oh, here's Baghdad Bob, Minister of Wishful Thinking".
