Title: F4U-1C "lead bricks" -a petition
Post by: Preon1 on April 08, 2003, 11:09:05 AM
Dear Pyro,

I'd like to turn back a few pages in AH history.

Anyone who remembers Aces High two years ago remembers the domination of the Main Arena by the F4U-1C (lovingly called the CHog).  That powerful aircraft with its four antisocial lasers and long clip was the bane of every other pilot flying in range of its spray.  Because of that, people complained that the plane didn't belong in the Arena due to its limited impact in WWII.  Soon after, the plane was perked and some 600-900 lbs of lead bricks were added to its flight model, forever leashing the beast.

Turning back to the near future.

Now that AH is going to the dual nature of a game and a sim/rpg, isn't it about time that the bricks be taken out of the F4U-1C?  You can make it a 30-point perk in AH Classic and it'll never get out of the hangar in AHII.

Please, Please, PLEASE give us the plane we know and love back to us.

From a thread called "Flight model stuff" which Pyro started in the Aircraft and Vehicles-forum:

So there were no "lead bricks" added to it. It was underweight and it got corrected.

IIRC I haven't seen this 600-900 lbs-figure anywhere. Where did you get it?

This game has always been plagued by one problem or another.  Its the nature of the technical data beast.  The Chog was an absolute joke early on.  Was childsplay and nothing more.  Damn near ruined what was otherwise a pretty good deal for alot of people.  Then came the N1K............and the LA7.............but both these rides at least had some flaws that kept em killable

I would guess the Chog used to come in at about 300 pounds and was missing about 10,000 pounds based on the way it would:

pull a 40G corner in under 200 foot radius going 440 TAS and yet gain speed through the pullout even when it was vertical going straight up and over past 23k.  Its better now, alot better.  Change it back to the way it was and might as well just offer the game over the internet for free cause thats all it would be worth.

I don't believe HTC every specified how much they changed the weight by.  They tend not to be that specific on such things.

I spend about 70% of my time in one form of Hog or another. Wonderful plane here. Don't see the problem..

Cep I'm from WB originally and if you've been there and flown a hog, you'd understand why the AH hog is a pleasure to fly.

tArdlo voicing agreement with someone isnt whining.

Whining is what you do about  the ct cms, inparticularly brady, "keepping you from flying an F4U-1 vrs the A6m2". But even then mentioning it once or twice wont automatically make you a whiner. But carrying on for three weeks and several threads and forums will.

So whine on tArdlo........

You said it! Flying the Warbird's F4U is a form of capital punishment in some countries.

The F-4u1C was considered a killer in the main arena then because...

It was under weight and the new FM today is vastly enhanced as compared to the older FM. Though there are some things I prefered in the older FM. The gun FM is now more realistic as well.

People used to fly around and take pop shots with those guns at unrealistic trajectories and break off wings of enemy planes with just a few hits. I know because I use to fly it also. What made it unchallenging to fight a C-hog was that alot of the people who flew it then didnt really know how to dogfight in it, they just went around and HOd everybody at every chance. A good pilot flying it was difficult to fight, down right deadly because you must matched his every move (so as to prevent his lucky snap shots of death).

Also only 200 were evere made in wwII.

I still hate C-hogs, perked or not.

it was the HO of death that bothered me about the Chog. The MA was mostly seemed like a jousting arena back then, and PTs were completely useless. The niki and La7 today are less lame than those days.
