Funked has got me started. I've seen plenty of movies on rented videos that I didn't bother to finish, but to actually go out to a movie theatre and spend money/try to make an evening of it, and THEN call it quits part way through - those are the very worst movies.
Here's a few of mine. - Ordinary People (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0081283)- I don't care what the reviews say, this one was like watching thin paint dry on a cold December day. 45 minutes was enough.
- Airport 80, the Concorde (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0078740) - at least that's what they called it when I went to see it. In IMDB it's Airport 79. The first of these Airport movies was OK, but they got steadily worse.
- My Dinner with André (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0082783) - Got suckered into forking out to see this piece of krap. A friend of mine described the format of the movie, but said it was worth going to see. Such was the strength of our friendship that we remained friends afterwards. The entire movie is a single scene - of two guys having dinner- LOL.
- Burnt by the Sun (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0111579) Set in Russia in 1936, the film dwells on the life of a Russian family. I was interested to see the depictions of Russian life at that time, but that was the extent of my interest. The screenplay was diabolical, with a scene which showed the family eating the first course of their meal which lasted fifteen minutes. I WOULD have walked out, but was with a girlfriend who wanted to see it. As a measure of its corniness, some people in the audience clapped as it ended - clearly most people had been bored to tears, but these people wanted everyone to know that THEY had understood it... (Just because it was Russian need not have made it boring. Dr. Zhivago was an outstanding movie. Alec Guinness had a cameo role.)
I wanted to make five, but could only think of these four. These days we can watch at home, and salvage the rest of the evening if the movie turns out to be crap. So I'll just add one more category.
Weirdest Movie I ever saw- Eraserhead (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0074486) - there is just no other contender for the title, and nor is there ever likely to be. Quite simply the most bizarre work of cinematography I have ever seen. Same applies to anyone else I know who's seen it. But interesting! I've seen it a few times.
-
The only movie I have ever walked out on was as I said in Funked's thread..Pearl Harbour.
..Lol.."My Dinner With Andre".....I saw this a long long time ago...It's in my top ten films of all time..Mezmorizing(luv it or hate it)
-
Sexworld 2
It just didn't hold a candle to the original.
-
The only movie I've ever walked out of was Pearlmagedon er... Pearl Harbor. Walked out about 1/2 way through the Pearl action scene. Watched it a year later and was glad I did when I found out that not only had Ben faught for the Eagle Squadron and in Pearl Harbor, but actually flew in the Doolittle raid
-
I walked out of "Urban Cowboy."
-
The only movie I ever walked out of was Bonfire of the Vanities.
-
Old Yeller.
they shot the dog, fer chrissakes!

I remember, we walked out together in our cowboy costumes and you tried to get me into that liberal bookstore for a cup of Joe.

Here's one..

Yeah - but Im not sure he'd be able to walk out of the theatre if he wanted to after that.
-
I wanted to walk out of AI, but i was in japan and had just paid $20 bucks to see it. So i stuck it out. Should have walked out in retrospect.
-
Battlefield Earth- damn shame they ruined what should have been a good movie. (Very good book.)
-
anything written by hubbard/scino boy is crap.

Have to take your word for it. I refuse to read anything by Hubbard.
-
Did you actually read it or are you coloring your perception of this book by that piece of crap Dianetics he did? Scientology is crap, but this book was not. (And it contains no reference or hints at the Scientology philosophy.)

No... I'm coloring my perception by the fact that I don't want to fund Scientology by purchasing the book. Yeah... I guess I could go to the library... :)

ouch ... :)
it's me or this sentence is just weird ?
@Sandman :
Battelfield hearth is not a bad scifi book and Mission Earth got some pretty hilarious part (btw I've got the book from the library ;))
The only film I've ever seen was "Adieu ma concubine" (I'll search the English tittle)
found : http://us.imdb.com/Title?0106332
and viewing this film in Madarin was pretty boring...

Good man.
I was too young for that one. But I wish I had seen it so I would have had the opportunity to walk out. Thank you for doing it for future generations.
-
Walked out of Forrest Gump. I admit I was still pretty young at the time it was in the theaters, but the first hour of it was just really damn boring. Watched it again later on video, it got a little better, but not really enough to make me regret leaving.
-
American Beauty - the girl I was with had a more rewarding experience planned.
Saw it on video later. Good film.
Never walked out on a film even though I saw Titanic at the cinema. Very much a 'gonna get my money's worth' when I got to see a film.
-
The Wedding Singer
-
Waterworld
-
Pearl Harbour.
And I would have walked out of Titanic too, except I never walked in. Had it been physically possible, I would have, though.
Fortunately, I am now almost 28, which means I won't have to go see chick flicks with prospective girlfriends any more.
-
And why is that santa, people go impotent at that young age back there? :)
-
Pulp Fiction
-
Pulp Fiction? Really?
I guess the violence is gratuitous, but there is an interesting story there.
-
I've never walked out of a theatre - I'll sit through anything if I've paid a lot of money to see it. But, there are videos I've rented and never finished watching - "Casino" comes to mind right off. Two tapes and I didn't even get through the first one. Looked like a good movie but my time is precious and I didn't have time to watch something that long. I do plan on trying it again sometime.

I guess I could not get past the violence long enough to see the point of it. But then again,..I walked out of the Matrix as well.
-
Well, the Matrix was just action without a story. :) You didn't miss much, although the special effects were impressive.

I didn't walk out of the theatre, but when I saw it the first time on 'video' I watched about half an hour of it and turned it off.
I gave it another chance the next day and loved it.
If you are not in the mood to try and figure out the storyline then I can see why people walked out of this one.

Krull

Probably quite right Curval.
When I go to the movies, it is a form of mental relief for me. I prefer intelligent humor and movies with no bearing in reality. I like a good action movie, but don't care for excessive violence.
Two of my favorite films (not to hijack the thread, but for perspective purposes only), Demolition Man and Galaxy Quest.
-
No contest: Battlefield Earth.
-
Cool World and Shocker
-
Siaf: No, but at age 28 you've developed enough 'skills' to manipulate your date in subtler, more effective ways than what chick flicks can do.
Of course this doesn't happen if you're American. Your basically stop any mental development at age 2 in that case but that is ok, since it is the same for both genders
:D
-
'Born Losers'... the original Billy Jack movie.

After the lenience you have shown me, I invite you to say whatever you like in any of my threads! :D:D

Thank you beet1e, but what's good for the goose is good for the gander.
-
I don't like to walk out of movies because you can really find some gems in even the worst movies. But there was one...
Natural Born Killers. What a horrible movie.
And Animal... I'd expect a youngun like you not to like The Wedding Singer. Mostly because you just don't get it. ;)

Came close during "Mission to Mars" Ewwww, they tried to make it realistic and failed in that AND in making it entertaining. Red Planet was better, though not the best Sci-Fi either.
-
"Hidden dragon, Crouching Tiger"
I would've walked away from that one, but i had my brother with me so i couldnt.
Typical bad movie with high review rates just because its Chinese culture movie. You know, "Emperor wears no clothes" thingy. It lasted some 2˝ hours, i almost died of boredom.

Saw it the day it came out and probably close to 100 times after that. Quarantino changed cinema as we knew it with that film.

Oh yeah I walked out of Waterworld, and uh Costners' other one where he was a post apocolyptic postman.

Sorry, Sandman, my comment was directed at Frogm4n. Shoulda been more clear.
-
i wouldnt give a penny to that organization, refuse to watch that movie or read any of that guys books.
And how can you walk out on pulp fiction? that movie was squealing great.
-
Guess I just didn't get it. Between the trite dialog and violence, it completely left me disgusted I spent money on it.
-
it wouldnt be such a powerfull movie if it wasnt for the use violence.
-
Different strokes there Frog. I do not care for excessive violence. I do not find it entertaining, and that is why I go to the movies.
-
nothing wrong with that, alot of people go to he movies to see a story(like myself). and alot of people go to get entertained(most people).
-
"Days Of Thunder". Lame.
-
A bad movie is one thing. A movie with marquee names and a big budget that completely misses is another. My list of walkouts (OK - turn the VCR off) includes:
The Magic Christian - (Peter Sellers and Ringo Star of all people)
Ishtar - (Waren Beaty and Dustin Hoffman)
Pulp Fiction was groundbreaking and really did have a huge impact on the industry, whether or not you personally could stomach the content.
Titanic and Pearl Harbor - I never walked in.
-
The one movie I walked out on was Robin Hood - Men in Tights. Mel Brook's very disapointing movie spoof.
The worst movie EVER where I should of destroyed everything the video touched was Freddy Got Fingered with Tom Green...pure trash.
-SLICER
-
Hmmm,..Stomaching it had little to do with why I walked. I just found it superflous, trite, boring, and overtly violent. Overall, a rather terrible movie.
I really cannot fathom why it was considered 'ground breaking'.
-
Any movie with Sandra Bullock
The Hidden 2
Yentl (sorry Dowding :D)
Angela's ashes
IA
I have to agree with the weirdest movie (eraserhead) I was quite "puzzled" after i saw it.
PS: "Krull" lol! :D
-
Ooooo... Ishtar. Now that was truly a bad movie. That is one I considered the worst movie ever made. But its so bad that I am drawn to watch it.
Freddy Got Fingered is also a bad movie, but its Tom Green. I mean... what the hell did you expect?
Others that fall into the "I can't believe how bad that was" to the point of simply having to watch them:
Ghosts of Mars
Driven
Get Carter
Behind Enemy Lines
Battlefield Earth
Hackers
Damn... there's just too many to list.
One thing is constant: Whenever I say "That may be the worst movie ever made!" my wife will always reply "Was it worse than Ishtar?" The only answer to that question can be "No... not that bad."

Same reaction for Natural Born Killers. Took me a viewing or two to overlook the violence and admire the satire.
-
BioDome is saved from being the worst by being shorter than Ishtar. But pound for pound it's a goner!
-
I have never walked out of a movie. I kind of approach movies the same way as MiniT.
The only one that I seriously wish I had walked out on was Boxing Helena. That movie was complete crap. Stupid soap opera "its all a dream" storyline. Just a plain waste of film.
-
MT,
I agree. "Born Losers" was pretty bad. Not as bad as "Billy Jack."
Can't say anymore...my...my...gorge is beginning to rise.
Regards, Shuckins
-
back in HS girlfriend took me to "Beaches"... wouldnt let me leave...
I dumped her in the theater and went home.
-
"2001- A Space Odessey" I expected an episode of "Star Trek"
Did'nt get it....still dont.
If you hated "Pulp Fiction" (or loved it) , Try "Resevoir Dogs" also by Quentin Tarentino. Those movies are like Train wrecks..I just have to keep looking..but can't figure out why.
-
Kick, you nailed it. That is a Terentino description that fits.
As for me I nearly walked out of Very Bad Things with Christian Slater and Camerion Diaz.
It was dull, and dull. I did like it's ending, but getting to it was painful. It also had a cameo by real life pornstar Kobe Tai, which isn't a bad thing!

His directing style...borrowed from some japanese guy...was groundbreaking for hollywood in the fact that no movie prior to pulp fiction of resevoir dogs can hold a candle to the dialog in either of those movies. Not to mention Pulp Fiction was the 1st "hit" movie that was no longer linear. Starting with the diner scene, moving around to other scenes out of order, and the everything coming back to where it started. This truely changed Hollywood's idea about how movies should be made. Yes it was violent, but the violence believe it or not was actually comical. Dark humor i guess you could say.
-
i walked out on the last 3 james bond movies pearl harbour titanic and i actually threw out a tape i rented i acnt remember the name but when it had a messersschmidt outturning a spitfire...i screamed bloody murder and took a bloody sledghammer to it...half way through i remembered it was a rental and screamed some more
-
The wife and I are at the movies......(she is very happy, I might get some tonight), movie starts.........eating my popcorn......10 mins later I'm done with my popcorn.........10 mins later I'm in dreamland, dreaming of one of my flying adventures.........movie over, lights come on.........my wife pokes me, and I wake up.......she asks(every movie), "how did you like the movie?", and I reply, "I couldn't wait for it to be over", "thought I might have to wait in the lobby". We have never walked out on a movie, and I get some that night too. :D

Love at First Bite
I tried to walk out, but I saw it on a L-1011. Kinda hard to walk out at 35,000 feet.

Tarantino basically ripped off the Hong Kong action genre for True Romance and Resevoir Dogs.
Thats how real groundbreakers like John Woo, and Chow Yun-Fat made it in Hollywood.
