Wow! That A10's must be made [edit]of[/edit] russian wood! :D
Glad the pilot made it home :)
-
Good thing Sadaam doesn't have Ostwinds!
It looks like those adds saying that the A10 can sustain a lot of damage & keep on flying are true. Good thing your buddy made it back :)

Remember the A10 that came back in the Gulf War Round 1? Missing a Vert, 1/2 the horizontal Stab on that side, and about a third of the same sides wing.... now that was battle damage!

Yah, that pilot was in disbelief that he was still alive after a walk-around of his A/C.
Cool pics heater, tell your bud we're glad he got her on the ground again wheels up!
-
Baaah.. That's not battle damage, that's corrosion damage!
Look at the lowest pic, it's all brown corroded metal under the paint. Much like Chevy cars.. lol. :D

That show how to lower the cost of the A-10.
It's build with a lot of unnecessary parts !
-
Its just a flesh wound!

Thats nothin I dont have a pic of it. But saw on the tube an a10 landing down in southern iraq that had been hit by a missile. One half of the right engine nacell was gone looked like a giant had taken a bite out of it.
If I ever had to fly into a CAS the a10 would be my ride of choice.
-
Why oh why did they stop building them ???? whenever heavy close support is needed what do they turn to??? - the A10.
When the Apaches got whacked what had to clean up ?? - A10's. Fairchild workers should be proud.... damn fine aircraft

on hyperscale, they say it was a woman pilot......just saying.
-
What caliber AAA was that?
Can I use these images in another forum?
-
Yep apparently the pilot was a woman. She did a great job getting the A-10 back home.

No.1 reason we should keep building them and keep 'em around...
dependability. simplicity. cost.
compare that to an F14....

Apples and oranges bud. The F14 was the navy's air superiority fighter. The A10 was always a ground attack plane for CLOSE air support and killing armored vehicles.
The AF dumped the A10 as it isn't "zoomie" enough to make them feel good. Believe me the Army would be happy to take them all off of their hands if Congress would let them.

been 25 years since an A-10 rolled off an assembly line. the company is long gone.. off long island now, making gunsights and cameras and such. fairchild don't build anything that flys anymore... they just make the stuff that flys fly better.(tm)
great plane, tho. nice fit for the role.
-
the main gun of A-10 looks scary:eek:

ALL,
I stand corrected, it was in fact and female Pilot, Capt. Kim Campbell,
I assumed that he was flying, this is not the case.

Ya, it was definately a woman pilot from bay area, ca. She has a husband that is also flying over in Iraq.

Anyways, glad whoever it was landed back safe.
