..and they're tearing it down to the cheers of the city.
-
The world, and Arab TV should note that the U.S. flag got every bit as huge a cheer as the flag of Iraq got, and that when the U.S. flag was taken down and given to an Iraqi, HE waved it to the cheers of the crowd.
-
Fark, too bad my TV was stolen :/
-
that was cool.. citizens hugging and kissing the US troops and freaking out in celebration.
wonder what the 'no war' protestors will say about that.
-
Fortunately, someone clever enough substituted the U.S. flag for an Iranian one, just before toppling the statue...

Ahh yes, the Iranian flag, ever popular in Iraq.
(I know, typo)

Martlet,
I know subtleness is not one of your skills ;). But for once, try to see some inches beyond your nose, and think what is the role your country wants to play in this war (hint: I am not talking about Iraq).

Have you SEEN my nose? On a clear day I can't see the end of it, let alone past it.

Here in the Seattle neigborhood of Fremont, which is a screamin liberal enclave. They have a 20 foot tall statue of Lennin that they got from the Soviet Union. I wont be surprised if they don't buy a Saddam statue to go next to it.

Just tore myself away from the tube... great stuff. Proud to be an American.

If that had shown up in my town, "something TERRIBLE" would have happened to it.

Any of you fellow old timers like me reminded of Don Meredith at the end of a Monday Night Football game as we watch this?

You mean "Turn out the lights........ the party's over..............."
Don Meredith, one of the most underrated quarterbacks in football history. Played the "ice bowl" with broken ribs and pneumonia.

hmm now Iraqis are driving around Baghdad waving the Stars N' Stripes.
-
The toppling of the statue was pretty cool. I really liked hearing from two differing reporters on CNN in the field (Amanpore and the Time mag guy) state that some Iraqis are mocking the human shields and there was even a sign that read "human shields, go home" or something to that extent.
It's still not over, but it's getting there.

Cool stuff. There are benefits to war for political change suitable for American needs, even for locals :)

I am speechless. I just don't know what to say.
I have a friend who went to Whitman in WA, and he came home a hard core commie... I mean he full on wanted to condition people into being good commies so we could all work together,,, but even he was not found of lennon and his ilk.
Saying lennon was not a true commie... but a dictator....
fortunately he has grown up now, he still likes the idea but knows it can not work on a large scale....
hmmmm I will have to ask him about this statue...
This is just ****ing wrong though......
-
I agree Gto..its pretty fluffied up

Quote:"Saying lennon was not a true commie... but a dictator...."
Hmm, I always thought he was a song writer who once was a Beatle.;)
Oooh, you mean Lenin!:D
-
Weav! ooopps lol
hmmm they are not the same guy?!?!?!? :D
-
yeah, but he was a "communist" too! ;) haven't you ever listened to Imagine??? ;)
It's wonderful to see the Iraqi people being freed. I just hope that freedom lasts peacefully after their new government is set up and the US/UK/UN/whomever withdraws and lets the Iraqis run things on their own. I'm just afraid the religious factions will have a huge power struggle down the road for the new Iraq government. I don't think it will be anywhere near as oppressive as it was with the Ba'aths in power, but factional conflict isn't a good thing for a country. Especially if it leads to a full scale civil war. :( Hopefully they will learn to co-exist in the same area.

ROFL, I wondered why they talked about Lennon.
Lenin, Lennon. I can see how they can get switched around, especially considering the political views :)
