Jane Fonda fears 'entire world' will unite against U.S. after Iraq war
Associated Press
Published April 9, 2003 FOND10
VANCOUVER -- Jane Fonda told a Canadian audience that she fears the U.S. campaign in Iraq will turn people all over the world against America.
``What it's going to mean for (America's) stability as a nation, for terrorism, for the economy - I can't imagine,'' Fonda said Tuesday. ``I think the entire world is going to be united against us.''
That frightens her, she said, but she isn't sure what Americans can do about it.
``I don't know if a country where the people are so ignorant of reality and of history, if you can call that a free world,'' she said.
Fonda, 65, has been the target of criticism for decades for her opposition to the Vietnam War and for posing overseas with members of the opposition's military.
When she was in North Vietnam during the Vietnam War, Fonda said she saw a small performance of a play intended to teach villagers that there were ``good Americans and bad Americans'' even as U.S. bombs fell on their country.
She said she hopes Iraqis and others who might suffer from American attacks will feel the same as Vietnamese people she met, who told her ``someday the war will be over and we're going to have to be friends again.''
Fonda made her comments in Vancouver as part of the Unique Lives and Experiences lecture series. She also discussed Canada, the war, her acting career, and her three marriages and divorces.

Isn't she dead yet?

She has been for many years but I don't think brain dead counts.

well, at least Iraq will be with us, and Britain, Poland, Aussieland, and 40-50 others, and now, it appears, even Canada :)
One of the pleasant things about the fall of Communism is thinking about what that had to put people like her through.

My heart is heavy with sorrow... for Jane is scared.
I wonder if she's as scared as my UPT Flight Leader, Jack O. Davies, was when he got the absolute sh t beat out of him by the Hilton guards when she visited. They kept telling him she was in town....

There are a bunch of vets counting the day's.
This is a free country and she has the right to her opinion. Just as we have the same right to hate her for that opinion for the rest of time.

I still say she should have been charged for treason for what she did during the Vietnam war.
-
It sure is too bad no Iron Hand mission rolled in on that AA site when she was sitting in the gunner position. :)
-
That stupid squeak should shut the hell up and realize she's already irrelevant.
-
Why does anyone even care what that old hag thinks?

More importantly, why is Animal using an emotican??

Unless I mis-remember my history, Isn't she the one that was "ignorant of reality" during the whole Hanoi Hilton visit?
Being given notes from the prisoners and then turning them over to the guards?
Hanging is too good for her.

Thank you Stringer and Animal...that was quite funny :D

IIRC, while she was in town they didn't fly any airstrikes for fear of hitting her and causing a press heyday.
Not sure about it though.

Isn't that the same thing for France?
-
someone needs to wave their arms in her face or jump out from behind a bush or something and end her.
-
That skank wouldn't know reality or history if it walked up and bit her on the ass.
-
she's on my short list for pee stops when she dies.
-
Is she above or below Billary?
-
you have to ask?
-
Definitely below.
Shuckins

nobody cares what that dried up old hosebag has to say!
burn in HELL jane.
-
I'd do her.
-
thats not enough.
she needs more ritualized abuse.

I really wonder how anyone can hear or understand her, she's had her head up her prettythang for about 35 years.
If there ever was a case for the positive side for collateral damage, she's it. That pose she struck beside that VC AAA battery was a perfect target for a Wild Weasel strike.
I've got a buddy that did three tours in Vietnam. Every time I get a different truck or a different rear bumper, he puts his favorite bumber sticker on it. He must still have a thousand of them.
It says:
Jane Fonda, American traitor sweety.
I've never taken them off either.

Since we're on the subject, how's about Jeanene Geraffalo. Saw a repeat of her in another interview on the news tonight on MSNBC. I still think she's funny...but now I know she's insane too. Well, she IS a comedian...that should have been obvious, I suppose. :)

you guys are too rough on her... after all she is a very wise woman... I mean.... she made an exercise video and all.

This strikes me as an out of context quote. Sure would like to see the whole speech.

The only context that I can imagine giving the quoted statement a different meaning would be the country she was referring to. And I can only imagine her ridiculing one country, her own.

hmm I read some quotes and now they are my sig, they made me feel ill, and make me hate her all the more.

i think its great she became a born again and ted tunner dumped her for it.

The best thing I ever saw was the "Jane Fonda Urinal sticker"
Waterproof, stuck on the face of a urinal in a bar I frequent.
A Recycled Budweiser golden shower for the old bag.
It was the most satisfying pee I ever took!

Exactly what I was thinking. Is it possible she was refering to Iraq? - Until we see the full context I would have to say yes. Does this change the fact that what she did in 1972 was god-awful... no.
-
I highly doubt it MT, take a look at that quote one more time..
if you can call that a free world
Lets face it, Iraq hasn't been free for a long, long time. There is no way she could be talking about Iraq. Ignorance of reality and of history aside, she said free and the Iraqi people have only just now begun to see freedom.
