Fellow AH'ers,
If you would like to support our troops fighting overseas there are many good ways to do it. These Men and Women are OUR troops and fighting so that we can be safe at home. They deserve the BEST we can do for them.
Check out this site for many good ideas.

who reads time?
>a magazine
>it costs a dime
< i only have a nickel
>well, thats life
< whats life?
>a magazine
>it costs a dime
etc etc
-
What do you find objectionable about that cover? It clearly says Saddam's last stand in big letters I can read even in that tiny picture.
-
Don't spoil a good rant with common sense, Zoso.
-
I wish the government would support the troops also...
aparently, while America was busy watching the war on CNN, they cut Vet Bennefits by like 40% ..
looking for the link I had....
-
Guys, this thread is about supporting our troops fighting at the moment. Please move this stuff about TIME magazine over to another thread.
Also, Wlfgang agree the Government has always shamefully shafted Veterans who fought for their country but this is not the time or thread for it.
Thanks. !

I was complaining about that to my friend that works for the VA. For what it's worth, he sat down and explained how the VA is tied into, funds, and is funded by so many other organizations. He said the VA actually got a 7.8% INCREASE when all is said and done.
I'll try to find some info on it, or ask him if there is any online documentation.
-
yeah the VA got an increase but us vets got the shaft

now THERE'S a punt !

HAVE A NICE DAY! :D

what an idiotic statement you just made.
you know nothing about me now do you.
if you think complaining about getting my bennies cut is whining then go ahead and think that.
and if you think I don't support the troops you are even more of an idiot. Not only that, but my son is over there so take your own advice on the pie-hole.
not only that, but you obviously can't take a fargin joke and if you really want me to come flick you in the head I'd be glad to.
now go back to watching CNN
just because our troops need support is no reason to ignore the ugly truth about REAL support for the troops. Your punting of this thread daily does nothing to suppor the troops.
I live in St.Charles, Arkansas
I'm sorry.

Goood question! Lots of things, actually, many of which I ain't all that proud of. Ya see, I bought in to the government's rhetoric of the early 60's. Couldn't wait to get out of high school, join up, and save the world from Communism. You know, the old "Domino Theory". "Stop them over there or we'll have to stop them in our own back yards!" A lot like what we've heard from ol Dubya regarding WMD, huh? So I joined the Air Force and spent over 2 years "in country". Not like being a grunt, but I saw plenty in that time. Plenty enough to see that the government was blowing smoke all the way. Heck, during my third 2 month TDY to Saigon, during TET 68, I helped hide fresh body bags so the press wouldn't know how many kia's we took at Tanh Son Nhut (sorry if the spelling's wrong, but them little brown dudes put h's in every which a way). So, you see, I've paid the price to have an opinion, even if it doesn't coincide with the mainstream. Sooo, getting back to the subject at hand, do we impeach the little pin-head or wait for the election and beat him by enough that his brother can't steal it for him again?
-
I support our troops...Especially when they have to go in as a peace keeping force.
-
Ouch! Arfann that's gotta leave a mark..
Martlet's still new, he don't know who all the Viet Nam vets are yet.
Ya know,.. lying to Congress about the pretext for invasion is an impeachable offense.
Just sayin'..

No sweat about martlet. Just like so many other mindless twits spewing Bush and Rush pabum like a good little conservative.
I figure, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!" I love my country, and I still think our government and way of like is the best. But it only works if folks pay attention and guard their freedoms. Especially, against little donutwoods who "know what's best" for us and the rest of the world.
I don't think there are enough who will stand up against the rhetoric right now to impeach. The thing to do is get out the vote. Shake people up and make them think about what's going on around them. Turn off the reality TV and assess the reality Dubya got us headed for.
-
Are you pro war or pro troops, since recently the AGWVA is calling for Rumsfeld to resign.
what is that horrible smell....oh all those dirty little secrets coming of light.

You make up facts to support your argument and I'm the mindless avacado? I wish I had gone to school in arkansas. They obviously teach it different there.
So you are telling me the citizens of Iraq would be better off under the rule of Saddam?

Twat? Arkansas? Man, the voices in yer head must be worse than the ones in mine. If you ck the warning label on yer meds you'll see it says "Do not take when driving, operating heavy equipment, bidding on ebay, or debating".
You're right, of course. Under Saddam they worried about secret police and death squads. Now they just have to worry about their next meal and glass of water and those other things that are a concern in a totally anarchic, "survival of the fittest" environment. Which, of course, means they are incapable of handling all that Texas Tea. So we'll sell it for them (cheap, to Dubya's friends) and use the funds to pay to rebuild what we destroyed (juicy contracts for more of Dubya's friends). You'd think the little brown fuggers would show more appreciation!

dude, you're making some good points but your bitterness is clouding your vision a bit I think.
While I agree that the administration isn't all they pretend to be.. hell which politician is?... I think that the times have changed.. It'd be much tougher today 'hide body bags' and pump up the media like the did then.
Some of the reports from this war (media reports) were pissing off the admin because they couldn't 'screen' them first.
As far as hype goes though.. yeah.. it's there (again).
thank God for the internet and multiple sources of information. At least one can try to get a less-biased view from it all.

Gee guys...have we done anything good and just as a nation?
Could one of you tell me who can save us this next November....I'm serious....I'de like your best shot.
The problem I have with some of you is that you focus entirely on the negative...if no negatives exist, you spin it. You refuse to give Bush any credit whatsoever....why can't you just be truthful and save the bandwidth....you can't stand Bush and no matter what he tries to do it won't be good enough.
Ya know why I can still smile after reading these posts? GWB will be a two term president.:)
Time to suck it up boys....sharpen your number 2's and get ready to whine like babies for another four.
And honestly....if this nation is so screwed up, why don't you move away and live where there is justice and true representation? Seriously....can you really be happy complaining all the time?
If I had the time and cared enough to do it, I bet a frightening collection of past posts would give, not only an accurate look at who some of you really are, but leave a clear impression of just how unhappy and negative some of you are.
It's crazy man.....you folks expect some utopia where all is well and mankind loves one another and no injustices exist.....stop kidding yourselves....mankind is broken and will never solve it's problems....it's the condition of mans heart that must be changed and none of us have the power to accomplish that in of ourselves.
-
utiopi? I already live there.
the rest is a dose of reality. We do live in the best country in the world.. no doubt about it.. but it ain't perfect.
that's the point.

Wow, flash-back time. "Love it or leave it!" "My country right or wrong!"
Excuse me, Rude, but I keep forgetting that Bill Clinton was the only President who was to be endlessly bashed, whether there were troops on foreign soil or not. The Bush pep-squad (complete with talking head cheerleaders) needs to wake up to reality. I'm no Slick Willie apologist, but I suspect he will go down in history as a pimple on the bellybutton of the presidency, whereas Dubya will be remembered as a war mongering, puss oozing boil.

Your right Wlfgng, I know nothing about you. Just as you nothing about me. Almost every male member and a few of the women of my family, on both sides, were in the military for a time in some capacity or another. My Father was a Medic during the Korean War and I lost two Uncles to land mines in Vietnam. I was one of the few that didn't join the Military, due to bad eyesight, not for lack of wanting too. Instead I became a Firefighter and EMT to help serve my Country a little.
In my off time you will also find me working with the American Legion, on my own time and nickle even though I am not a member, to see that Veterans in my area are taken care with medical checks & taking them to the VA or the doctor as well as seeing that all the cemetary markers & plots for any veterans are well taken care of and properly honored, year round, not just on the holidays.
I think mainly we had a misunderstanding. If you will track back up this post to the beggining you will see that this post was NEVER "political" and was always about support of the troops. You will even see me agreeing with you on the VA. Coming from a military family I was taught you had a certain respect for those that served in the military and I am kinda "protective" by nature of those that put their life on the line for my freedoms.
If you were wounded in combat or got your disability due to your service time then you have my deepest respects. Also I wish your Son that is overseas now a speedy and safe return to his loved ones.
!
You also have my appologies - I should never have allowed myself to be "trolled" into giving the response I did. I intend to remove my post as soon as I am finshed here.
As for my living in Arkansas, don't be sorry, I'm thankful every day I get up and watch the news from the East & West Coast. ;)
-
sorry about the jab :)
my appologies as well.. I tend to get heated too quickly on this issue
After reading some of your other posts, and following this thread I agree with you and respect you for your opinions, even if they don't always agree with mine
misunderstandings happen and I'm sure I'm as guilty as the next guy .. ok.. I know I am.
thanks for the well wishes on my sons return.. at least I get to speak with him now and know things are ok for him.
just wish he could get home sooner !
fwiw I'm ex AF and CG.. cold war AF and more recently the CG
again

PS keep up the good work with the Legion!!!

Pissed? Naw. Dubya and his sibling stole it fair and square. Why mention Clinton? Because the "party pure" who were talking of what a disgrace Clinton was in the Whitehouse are lined up kissing Dubya's war mongering arse.

What constitutes war mongering? As near as I can tell, the way it's being thrown around by those who disagree with the action in Iraq, it holds no substance what-so-ever and is in fact simply the newest catch phrase since the "No war for oil" slandering campaign has been ground to a halt.

Ground to a halt? Not according to what I see on the news. Hmm. Remember "walk softly and carry a big stick"? Well, war mongering is stomping around in jack boots smacking the hell out of friend and foe. Get it? If not, just wait until the next chapter of Georgies follies. Got us tied up in Afghanistan and Iraq, reckon he'll smack some small country now. Anyway, what the hey! It keeps the talking head/cheerleaders from focusing on the way he's bankrupting the country.

You mean there are still retards running around with those signs? They became extinct around these parts about a month ago.

Walk softly and carrying a big stick worked about as good as putting Saddam in "time out". We didn't smack the hell outta our friends, they stuck with us. We did squeak slap our fair weathered friends, although I never much liked fair weather friends anyway. I got it, although I find the term "war mongering" more in line with constantly waging wars to topple empires and take their resources/land than your definition.
Got us tied up in Afghanistan and Iraq, reckon he'll smack some small country now.
So there was no point to going into Afghanistan and taking out the terrorist training camps? Just wait till they all kill themselves on our soil or our friend's soil taking a couple hundred, thousand, maybe even million with 'em? With regards to Iraq, guess we coulda sat around for another 12 years waiting for Saddam to pull his tricks outta his hand basket... see what nice surprises he has in store for us and his neighbors. I reckon it's best not to presume things till they happen, else you'll quickly prove you're no Miss Cleo.
Anyway, what the hey! It keeps the talking head/cheerleaders from focusing on the way he's bankrupting the country.
The country has been bankrupt for a long while now... we've actually been in quite a debt.

Guess it remains to be seen if and when Dubya decides to topple another empire.
Of course we had to do the terrorist training camps and their Taliban buddies. Too bad Georgie Boy couldn't stop there.
