Title: Another free WWIIOnline week.
Post by: Apache on April 11, 2003, 11:23:08 AM
Anyone going to try WWIIO again during this latest freeby?

I'm going to give it one...more...time. This will be my 4th renewal I think. I've completely redone my system. Only thing left and not upgraded from the old system is the cdrom drive. If I CTD even once...

Hmmm...can we download the software or do I have to buy a boxed copy?

If it can be downloaded, can someone tell me where?

Thanks in advance.

If you have to buy a boxed copy how can it be "free?"

I thought he meant it was a free subscription trial (Ie, no monthly fees) but you still needed to purchase software.

Sorry for the confusion. I wasn't very clear. If I understand correctly, those who had a subscription can renew for a time without charge. You had to have purchased the software at some point. You can download the software at their website but if you don't have a key, you can't log in.

when I play the free trial weeks from time to time, I feel like an abused wife..I keep hoping it will change, but keep getting disapponted.

When I can try the software at no cost, as with AH, I will try it immediately. I certainly won't buy a boxed game now (having missed the first ankle grab, thank you), or give this company a cent until there is no risk. The ball is in there court where restoring trust is concerned.

i actually have been enjoying it, i know who would have thunk it.

Most of the gripes i had before are gone, thx to a system upgrade and plenty of ram.

Thing I dont like is the 64 person limit, too many objects blink in and out during battle, especially the aircraft.

Also the LW drives me nuts, stukas everywhere.

planes still blink in and out?

I won't subscribe then.  How f***ing hard is it to bias that 64 player limit?  If I'm in a plane, the last thing that should blink out is an enemy plane.  That means 64 f***ing enemy planes I should see before one blinks out of existence.  If I'm flying, why on earth do I care if my client is getting updates on some infantry (even worse, friendly infantry) while the damned enemy plane 100m in front of me vanishes into then air???

silly people.

btw, have they progressed the technology into 1941 yet?  Any Hispanos???  :D

to be honest nifty, I dont know if they blink out when flying.  I dont play that sim for the flying, IMHO it sucks.  I stick to the ground combat.   When planes blink out its when im trying to pop them from the ground.

once you get to captain and get binocs, the trooper part of the game is a whole lot more fun.

The game is pretty fun. But your system better be good.  I just lost my subscription. My system was NOT up to par. 256 SD RAM, TnT2, 700mhz Duron. Ya I know i got it 4 years ago, but it still should run the game??? I cant friggin afford a new one. Its bad enough both my shreckin parents dont work!

Indeed, my biggest problem also

CD-Key can be purchased for Euro customers. And there are alot of euro's in that game. You see them on there own seperate radio channels, chatting in native languages.

The game is cool tho. Only game where you can play france, fly a D-520, or fight on a REALLY big map.
Title: Well I guess I am not wanted in WW2OL testing anymore...

The following is what you get now if you were a former beta tester for WW2OL up till recently. I had been testing for the game since about midway through pre-release development in January/February 2001.

Unauthorized

WWIIOL Beta tester,

Recently we have re-designed and re-implemented the WWIIOL closed beta toolset and team structure. In that effort many testers have been relieved of duty to respond to new levels of need within the quality assurance program for WWIIOL. If your login no longer allows access to this toolset your account has been culled for this purpose.

Let me personally thank you for your service and energies on behalf of the entire Playnet/CRS staff. You have helped to make WWIIOL a better product and you have our gratitude.

BTW they still have not fixed the g forces issue with pulling g's in the aircraft. At least it does not appear to be that way for me. I was flying an He-111 again in online and offline testing and went nose down in a -5° shallow dive from about 2500-3000 meters. As soon as I went nose down the pilot went redout and never recovered. Then I made a nose down landing without the shattering of the aircraft...You'd think that they would try to make it a bit more realistic in this regard but NOOOOO! Anyway I have been reporting that bug for over 2 years now and never get any response out of them on their tester board. I was also not the only guy reporting it. I guess the air component is not something they really care about.

As much can be equally said about the way in which CRS ripped people off with the early releases of WW2OL.

All Charon is saying is he'll give it ago, but he won't give them his money until hes certain its worth it.

Given your rantings about all sorts of stuff on the WW2OL forums fishu, I thought you'd understand this perspective. What was it lately? Oh yeah the numbers balance on tanks available.

Don't come here in your WW2OL cheerleaders outfit on when you spew criticism non-stop at them in your own backyard.

Apache is this happening now / happening soon? I haven't seen an email so I'm curious if I'm gonna get the offer.

If you can't find it in stores you can buy it from CRS's website. Its available for euro's only but that didn't stop me from getting it that way.

IMO it really should be a free download with a 7 day trial.

Oh I already brought the 'Euro' version online, I played it over Xmas didn't like it so flagged it.

Wouldn't mind giving it another crack though - I have a tanking/infantry itch I need to scratch and have been considering it for some time.

In that case, go buy Battlefield 1942 and download the Desert Combat mod :)

New 3D models and new aircraft are very nice. FPS are now much better. However, IMHO, aircraft dont bleed enuff Energy during maneuvers. The FM is not challenging, IMHO. But you can still enjoy tanks and infantry, probably.
