Title: XP and display drivers
Post by: Angus on April 12, 2003, 01:02:57 PM
Hello all.
I just converted from my old and tired Win ME to XP, and added another machine to the desk also running on XP (XP pro)
My old one is a PIII 800 mhz sporting a Geforce 440 MMX graphics card. It worked well on WinME. However I have had quite some troubles getting it set up in XP, - the OS does not swallow neither the geforce driver nor DirectX. What do I do?
Second machine is running an AMD 1300 with a built in chipset of 32 MB. It runs some games nicely, but AH has a sad framerate of only 7 - 10. Likewise, it does not take the DirectX.
Anyone there with XP knowledge that could lead me through this? Please!!!:) :) :) :)

I hope I don't offend you with a silly question but: Did you try installing the same driver you used in WinME? That won't work. You need to use the XP (or maybe Win2K) driver if you have one. If you don't have one, go the the video card maker's web site and look for more drivers. If yoiu get the latest video drivers, you might even be able to support direct-x too.

HTH,

Barfo

Did you "Wipe and load" or upgrade the p3 800?

...also make sure you uninstall old drivers before adding new ones.  Don't just install over the older drivers, could cause conflicts.

What is the problem with the direct x and GeForce drivers?  I have run all things you have mentioned without any problems. Do you get an error message on installation?
