A reporter is driving around Tikrit in a 7 car caravan being led by a local teacher and his family, and seeing no sign of any sort of hostile forces, Republican Guard, fedayeen, not even an angry Boy Scout :)
-
Those reporters got some balls. Lol, you couldn't pay me enough to do that.
-
so where are the remnants of the Iraqi armed forces?
I'll bet the bulk of them gave themselves discharges
-
what some people wont do for a Pulitzer
My theory is, Saddam and his followers tunneled deep into the earth, where they will become Mole-People and come up at night to prey on surface-dwellers

whoops some nasty people starting firing a machine gun at our intrepid reporter. His armed escorts returned fire but he decided to pull back and broadcast another day> :)

Im loving this stuff CNN shooting it out with the iraqi army..
Maybe they should go back to those abandoned bases, pick up an APC or two and teach those checkpoint guys a lesson... :D
-
hmm rumor now has it that the other gunmen were from Fox ;)
-
They lost the satellite feed. Damn that was impressive, and impressively stupid. Blow through a military checkpoint? What the hell are you thinking?
I hear you Grunherz -- paint a big white "TV" on one of those BMP-2s, and come in shooting up the place.
come to think of it -- Fox is already advancing on Tikrit to do just that. CNN does an "underamed reconnaissance", and FOX decides on "Recon in force". Who the hell is fighting this war anyway?

"We Come As Interviewers, Not Conquerors!"
-
CNN was doing something we call as force recon. :p

Naa they were just getting shot at. News people are like combatants now. News people have armed guards and they shoot back! Good thing nobody crashed. I dont think its smart to have an armed guard, they shouldnt go where they might get killed if they dont want to risk it. Having an armed guard, they are just asking for it from some dumb trigger happy person in some part of this world (there are alot) but hey, its their lives to risk.
A concerned viewer,

can't get home to collect your emmy and pulitzer if yah don't have enuf firepower to beat off the howling punjabs. next war, the newsies will have turrent mounted .30's with cameras slaved to the sights.
seriously.. if that CNN rover didn't have armed security those guys would probably be dead.
-
I hope not. News people are peacfull people who want to better this world by reporting it and informing the people. That in itself prevents needless wars and human suffering/death. I can say that I think news people are peace bringers to this world. Hate to see them get harmed in doing this or turn bad by the environment.
EHEM, A gun doesnt make you brave. Informed peoples killed colonialism not kings. Just my opinion.

horsepucky alert!
show me a reporter in that 'CNN Convoy' that does his 'job' to magnanimously 'bring the news to the people'.. they are by nature and current job titles media potatos that would do anything to get their byline on a 'hot' story. They are NOT 'sent' to combat zones, they BEG to go and for thier trouble and risk the payback is to get a big chunk of cash and their faces on the air.
Further.. the guys in the front office.. forever in pursuit of news are quite happy to make some of their own.. reality TV has a new fandom. Live War Coverage.

I think like most people, many have agendas that are hard to keep separate from their jobs.

>show me a reporter in that 'CNN Convoy' that does his 'job' to >magnanimously 'bring the news to the people'..
Im sure they have their own opinions and personal agendas but they report the news. Shrug If I think its boring I just change the channel anyways so thats about how far I want to debate this. Sorry Hangtime, you'll have to get your dose of post debate adrenaline from someone else.
:)

LOL No prob, here, senna. ;) I'm just a lil more jaundiced regarding what the roving live medias role is in a war zone.
If those were 'print' jornalists, they would not have done what they did. they were in my opinion just media potatos. Big diffrence between these roving glory guys and the WWII journalists that stayed with the troops.
I was watching that CNN bit in realtime at 230pm last night.. i found it really rankled.. it was obvious the guys on the front desk were hoping for some 'action'.. and it was just as obvious that the reporter was trying for the same thing.
for them it's 'ratings'.. not 'bringing truth to the viewers'.
if they got hosed id'a said 'serves you dickheads right'.
