Title: One gun better than four
Post by: LLv34_Snefens on July 30, 2000, 03:05:00 PM
I stumbled upon this data:  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Tour 5:

"The M-3 has 38 kills and has been killed 37 times against the M-16."

Tour 6:

"The M-3 has 79 kills and has been killed 74 times against the M-16."

heya,

It ain't the number of guns. It is the design of the vehicle. Both the M3 and M16 had THIN armor shielding. Both had NO top armor. A 30 cal could penetrate both. I've seen these vehicles at Ft Knox and Ft Jackson. The armor was about a quarter inch thick and set at a 90 degree angle. It was more for small frags like grenades or non near miss artillery.

An even kill ratio between the 2 vehicles is to be expected as long as both saw each other and started firing at the same time. Each can kill the other and dead is dead. Four fifties won't kill you any deader than one will if the round can penetrate you.

In my experience most kills awarded to vehicles are from aircraft being shot down by nearby AAA, or by aircraft crashing nearby.

"azrael has 3 kills and has been killed 0 times in the M-3 against the M-16."

Guess what? Those M-16's never saw me, they were obviously scanning the skies  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

My guess?  After an M3 captures a field, AAA immediately begins attacking enemy aircraft and vehicles, and it rewards those kills to the nearest friendly con (i.e. the M3).

I'm guessing that most of these kills are due to an M3 capturing a field, and this field subsequently killing any nearby M16's that failed to spot it.

DMF has it right.

The unarmed C-47 has many kills under the same circumstances.

I know a player who occasionaly lets out 9 troops, and then lets out troop #10 when someone spawns!  Free ack kills, LOL.

I wasted once all ammo sitting middle of runway and "CAP"ng the field for more troops as one of my died.
Pretty cool to gun planes in M3 hehe  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
(I also caught one low flying plane, pretty cool camouflage also)

Lesson to learn here...

Cats use to lurk low on the ground not high on the skies  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
