Something of the same caliber in physics as AH, but WWI instead of WWII.
-
I don't think I've seen anything better than Red Barron 2/3d. you'd need something in a vid card that would run open-glide (voodoo 3's) to get the good visuals and the 'promised land' add-ons working.
the physics where good for when it came out (97 I think) but it did have some holes, amount of fuel had no effect on physics to name one.
all in all a great game though.
I would love to see a new ww1 sim come out though

RB3D does it for me.
It's a bit like GPL in the respect that it looks lika a "Bag of Spanners" out of the box (Cr*p) and you need to spend time sourcing and downloading player patches. But get "Glidos" so Geforce & ATI cards will run "Glide" and the "Promised land Super Patch" and possibly the "Hells Angels" patch and it's a whole different ball game. The single player missions are what puts it apart from DOA etc and the online servers give you planty of action.

Snafu makes a very clear case for DoA.

Kanda dissapointing. RB can't be found anywhere.
So, no one has made a good WWI aviation game in the past six years?:(
Would the AH team consider doing this after they finish AH2?
-
I wish either they or oleg would..

Too little power on those WWI machines. I hate climbing and climbing forever...
Would like a game, IL-2 style, with WWI planes in 'em though - speed up time to get to alt.
-
you don't need alt in a WW1 plane they can almost loop indefinately just up off the runway.
plus if you dive on anyone from high up you are most likely to go sailing by the enemy in your burning toboggan.

I saw somewhere some WWI planes in the works for an Oleg style graphics engine (I say that, because they were rumored for FB, but I'm not sure about that... Oleg is supposedly definitely making a game after FB... theater/era unknown... reportedly one of the reasons UBI started the Strategic Simulations line of software). This forum here will show you some of the projects in the works for: http://www.il2center.com/Forums/viewforum.php?f=22
It won't be a full fledged WWI product, but will give planes of the same years that match up in performance for Germany and Britain (France too I suppose, but I haven't seen any Nieuports or Moranes).
Off topic: There's also a Luft '46 project in the works for, I think, FB... so far the game already includes the Me262, will later include the He-162 as flyable, and the Me163. There's also a P80 and Horten Go229 in development, the former to be released for FB in a later patch... unsure about the latter.

Yes what AKSWulfe says is correct, Oleg posts occasionally on the SWWISA Forums. He has in the past asked for 3D models of WWI aircraft so something could definately be on the cards.
Demosthanese, Just for your info. Any version of RB will do. All are upgradeable to the latest (Last) version. I got mine from a computer fair for £2.50 (About $5) Most of the things you need can be found at http://www.wings-of-valor.net/ You can even borrow a copy and when it asks for the CD just click the top right hand "Maltese Cross" 6 times to bypass the CD protection (But I did not tell you that) ;)
The degree to which you "patch" the game is up to you and it's all available from the site above. Oh and if you do find a copy expect to stall a lot. :)

Hey Wulf,
Please elaborate more on the "LUFT 46" project. This is news to me but something I have been looking for for a long time. Also what is "FB"?
Tks.
Wish they would open a Luft 46 arena here in AH, would be way cool! Would love to fly the Focke Wulf Ta-183 HUCKENBEIN.

There are several planes in the works (or cockpits to make some planes flyable) for Forgotten Battles (http://www.il2sturmovik.com) which is the second combat/flight sim/game from 1C/Maddox which is a Russian company. It was released here in the US recently, not more than 3 months ago and features the combat over the Eastern Front with many well known planes in it, and some not-so-well-known planes (which more of both coming in future patches).
Go to this website: http://www.il2center.com and look at the navigation section on the left. There will be a "Luft '46 Project" headline with four sections underneath. One is the guidelines which is a something Oleg said about the project, and also detailing what it will be.
The other 3 sections are the planes divided up by nationality.

The Wings With Wires (http://www.wingswithwires.com) folks are also working on a sim.
It is kind of ironic that, thanks to the Memorial Flight folks, there are quite a few flying WWI planes that the developers can ask questions about the behavior of.
-
Only thing is, Red Baron 3d was Win95 only, I tried to get it to run with XP once, it let's just say it didn't end well.
On a side note, this game was the first game I ever bought for a computer and holds the place of honor (bottom right) in my stack of computer game boxes :)

it ran fine on 98. I think I even ran it on wp in the win98 'compatablility mode' before I sold it to EB.
I've seen it at EB in the used section. and I think I even saw it in the $10-15 no box section at future shop.
I've never heard of glidos. if I'd known I could keep running it with all the promised land stuff on my radeon I'd have never let it go.

Tks Wulf!
