Which servers do you guys play on? I finally got it to run on my machine after an upgrade.
Great game! It's like WW2Online, without the frustration factor of driving or walking for 20 minutes only to get killed.
-
I play on the 64 play Nivida servers. Those servers don't show you who killed you and where they are located on the map. Only servers where snipers can play their role.
-
I usually only play LAN, but should pry dust it off. I have to install road to rome and then will play it off and on again. It did win PC Gamer game of the year btw.
-
I've been playing the Desert Combat mod of Battlefield 1942 on the Godforsaken clan server lately, they have active admins who get rid of TKs, spawn campers, and other miscreants that don't shape up when warned.
-
DesertCombat rocks. It's now bigger than the original BF1942 in terms of number of online players.
I love the helis. There's something satisfying about picking up 6 guys in your blackhawk and then hot-footing it to an enemy base, dropping them off while your gunner sprays the area with minigun fire before RTBing for more men.
I want them to add some British stuff though. Wouldn't mind seeing the Challenger MBT,Warrior APC and chinook and lynx.
-
So the DesertCombat is a mod that makes it Battlefield 2003? Where can I d/l it?
I do have a wierd video problem in BF1942 still. There is significant flickering and lines appear all over my screen. But, if I wait a few minutes, escape out to the setting page and jump back into the game a few times it goes away. It happens at all resolutions and video quality settings.
It is a nuisense, but I can stll play...I just have 5-10 minutes of dicking around before I can play online.

Also playing the DC here - fantastic mod - DC is to BF1942 what Counterstrike was to HL.
I agree Dowding - although on the other side of the spectrum - Im more of an AH64 type myself... nothing quite like flying to target at 10 ft AGL and then poping up to spray those poor Iraqi fools with Hydras. :D
I dont have any particular servers I play on... which ever ones are open and have more than 20 people I like. I cant stand the Russian maps, so I stay away from them. (Kharkov might actually be the worst map ever - Pizza's got nothing on it.)
-
Oh, and Curval:
http://www.desertcombat.com is where you can get it.
Do a search on the BBS here - we started a thread about it about 2 weeks ago.

Awesome mod! I love DC. Helo's are the way to go.
My fav thing to use is the Humvee with TOW rockets. They can take out a tank in one shot (at long range!).
I sneak around the back of their base, launch a few TOWs, then steal a Hind and create more havoc and destruction.
-
Hind Helocopter is the best....
Big mean and doubles as a transport.
The Scud Missle is pretty fun too...
Once you get the range down One scud clears a whole spawn point of infantry and vehicles...
Ive had zero sorties in AH since DC came out... (waste of my hard earned dinero.)
But DC is so addictive, nothing like a tank battle with infantry and to have some a10 or frogfoot level the bad guys right in front of ya...
HTC should sell a flight model to DICE software and the game would be complete... SAM's would be nice also...
Big Fan of Battle of the Bulge....
2 cents... Ill post my favorite servers once i get home...

Ok..thanks guys.
Serious newb question though....
If I dl this mod do I get a choice on start-up of the game as to whether or not I load BF1942 or DesertCombat? Is it a separate icon to run the mod? How does it work?
-
When you start BF1942, there is a tab labeled "Custom Games." Just click on that and DC will load. If you want to go back to BF1942, just click the tab again and then BF1942 - really simple.
I concur with my AH time going down since DC was released - I might have had 10 sorties in the past month.
I was getting semi-bored with AH anyway - flying 15 minutes to a fight that lasts 1 minute because the 25 cons infront of me dont like red icons. The mindless, instant action that DC provides is just enough to keep me happy until I get bored of the gameplay and return to an "intelligent" game like AH.
-
I haven't played AH for nearly 2 months. I've had enough of it I think, although my account stays open. I'll fly Guadacanal and try and make the squad events (CAP and SO), but MA bores me stupid. But I have been playing for nearly 3 years so I guess it's only natural to get bored. I wish I was a newbie again.
AH2 should re-invigorate me, however.
DC is a good laugh - I don't have much online time, but I play this more than anything else.
-
I haven't been online for AH in a few weeks because of Desert Combat too. The graphics in DC are incredible, and even though I'll just invite cries of 'eye candy weenie!' from y'all, the fact is it's hard to go back to Aces High after seeing the reflections off the waves, the semi-transparent water, the great tank warfare, and so on.
I'm keeping my AH account active and paid up, though, 'cuzz AH2 sounds like what I need.
-
Finally played the DC mod. ITs nice but I think the helos are way overmodeled. Apaches dominate the game. Takes multi shots to down one yet they can spray you with a volley of rockets and kill you instantly.. I did enjoy the custom maps though.
-
Just learn to take out helicopters with one shot using the M-1974 or that American M-109. Seriously, once you have that down, you'll be downing choppers at a good rate.
