Anyone in the gang have patents either submitted or issued?

My Dad had a few. Nothing that ever sold a great deal though.
One was the Big-O Fish and Tackle Saver - A spring swivel that allowed you to fish with a jig and set the hook with the spring.

Why? What have you invented and why does it need a patent?

Just filed my third patent. I can't really talk about them... but the last one is my favorite. It basically calls out for "drilling a hole". The aplication is a first, to my knowledge. Nobody on earth wants to do it, but it might be necessary shortly. I just think having a patent with the phrase "drill a hole" in it is quite funny.
Our company is currently doing a push for new technology and patents to go along with it. They are paying for the patents ($30k a piece) so they are just looking for ideas. This provides me a decent forum to get my name in the patent logs without having to risk anything.
My uncle has a patent on something that he paid $20k to get issued. He's never really made a penny off of it and is pretty pissed about that. I just wonder how many people here fall more into either the same category as me, or as my uncle. Or how many fall into the "I have this patented and have made a ****load of money off of it" crowd.

Does it have to do with Numerical programming? APT language or MCD language? I used to make alot of macro's back in my NC programming days.

HITECH has
:p

Hehehe... I know... though I don't know that he owns the rights to it anymore. Last I heard, that patent was iEN's last hope of ever making money again.
"Smoothing code". Now that's a cool sounding patent.

No.. no software involved. All chemical / process / equipment related.
I'm also thinking about a patent on "squeezing" a bottle.
Damn... I just find it hilarious what you can patent these days.

LOL! :D
I've got four patents thru work. Got a whole whopping dollar for each as I had to sell them to the customer. Oh well, my name is on them at least :D

This may be a stupid question, but does it really cost $30k to patent something? Or is that just for a particular kind of patent? That strikes me as prohibitively expensive for those that I picture as your typical basement/garage variety inventor.
-
I think the basement price you can patent something for is around $14,000. You really need to get a patent atourny to at least look things over. And I believe there is a $10,000 fee for filing. When you consider the amount of research involved with aproving the patent, it somewhat works out in the end.
Modas... what type of patents? What for? My name are on these, and I get a tad more money (Up to $1,600 depending on how many names are listed on the patent)... but having the name on the patent is pretty cool for me. Still waiting for the first one to issue.

I have a patent issued in my name. It's 4,398,893. Sold just enough to realize that I was not a businessman, and then technology and computers passed my technology by!

Patents are for a couple of thermoformed packages. The others are for a product that is just starting to hit a test market in AZ and I think in CO.
The way my company works is anything that is patentable that is SPECIFIC to a particular customer, becomes their patent. The customer typically "buys" the patent for a dollar.
Anything that my company can patent they get. I don't get a dime for it unfortunately. Just the glowing admiration of my co-workers.... yeah, right :D
Its ok, all my "good" ideas, I'm keeping to myelf

Good luck Mini. I didn't realize how much a patent cost. Yikes.
lol, I can't afford to invent anything;)
