Celle-là me fait bien rire :)

Toad the more you are going to the easy side of the force the worst is your french...

Well, I'll answer in English since I no longer see a need or have a desire to try to relearn French. And since you don't like AltaVista, either.
Replacing an evil government wholesale has never been easy, never been "clean" and never been without mistakes being made. I expect this will be no different. However, at the end of the process I do expect Iraqis to choose their own leaders in free elections. Some will run that are undoubtedly "friendly" to the US and some will run that still view us as the "Great Satan". Irregardless, the people of Iraq, not the US, will make those choices.
Your own revolution was pretty bloody and the years following the removal of Louie were characterised by some pretty horrible events. The mis-named "Committee of Public Safety" for example.
It will be difficult. There will be mistakes. It is already better than living under Saddam. It will get much, much better than it is now.

I believe the proof is there. Now the question is whether or not it will be discussed behind closed doors government to government or whether it will be brought out into the bright light of day and discussed publicly.
I see Chirac called Bush though... not the other way around. Make of that what you will.
I believe you'll soon see who the world chooses to follow. There may well be a split but I think the majority will stand with those who act for the right rather than surreptitiously aid the wrong.
It will be interesting to see what happens to those of Saddam's regime that have made it to la belle France, eh?
Are they "home safe"? Or will they be extradited? Stay tuned.

Toad,
As i said earlier i don't, and i'll never, regret Sadam Hussein and his totalitarism government. And i sware the majority of the french think the same.
And i have no doubt that you, toad, think that it will be for the best of the iraqi people.
Where i think some AH US fellows missed the point is that US government didn't do it for pure philanthropy. We see it here more as a colonialist action to have one of the richest region of the middle orient in the hand of USA (read petrol, read region control...).
And don't forgot also that that action was against the international law.
I won't talk about the risk to distabilize the whole region and the fact that it will give seeds to create terrorist and terrorism, that's not the place.
And for the french analogy, it is irrevelant. The French people did the cleaning themselves.

Here's the problem.
When this all started, the French people on this board said it was against the UN. Then the UN didn't do a thing.
Then they said we were going to suffer huge losses. And we didn't.
Then they said we were going to kill thousands of civilians. And we didn't.
Then they said the people in Iraq would fight us ever step. And they welcomed us.
Now you are saying we are colonizing?
Get with the program. If you'd stop trying so hard to find evil in our actions, we could put this all to rest.

Given the history of France, it's no surprise you view it that way is it?
Given the history of the United States, it's no surprise that we do not view it that way.
And don't forgot also that that action was against the international law.
I would disagree. I think the terms of the '91 ceasefire and UN SC 1441 do allow that action, although I was against it.
Destabilize the region? When was it stable?
Terrorists and terrorism?
You mean like Abbu Abbas living in Baghdad?
You mean like Ansar Al-Islam running a terrorist camp in N. Iraq? (Gee, Saddam didn't seem to be able to do anything about them but we had no trouble.)
Perhaps you mean the Palestine Liberation Front terrorist training camp on the outskirts of Baghdad, operated jointly by the Iraqi regime and the PLF?
Is that what you won't talk about?
As for the French Revolution as "irrevelant. The French people did the cleaning themselves."
So the slaughter and looting after Louie was ok? Marat and Robespierre and the Committee all fine and dandy because the violence was "French on French?"
Well, isn't that what's happening right now in Iraq with the looting and lawlessness? It's Iraqi on Iraqi.
Things will settle out. Law and order will be restored. And when it's over, it will be Iraq run by and for Iraqis.
Must really upset you huh?

Thanks but I've already seen this article quoted everywhere. It is not proof that the sanctions caused the increase in child mortality. Most of the increase it cites occurred in the south, where Hussein's policies were the likely true cause.
Anyway, I am puzzled why so many people who opposed the war favored keeping sanctions if they really believed the sanctions were causing these deaths.

The French are just fearful, or at least this majority you refer to is....being small minded brings out fear. For the French to think the US is colonizing Iraq is laughable and sad....You guys should stop trying to become someone and focus on doing whats right for a change.
