woah.. what happened to the Red Wings ?!?!?!
so much for the defending 'champs'.
WTFG Mighty Ducks

Great goal to end it.
Couldnt believe it though... Detroit out in 4 games. Just watching the big names skate off the ice (most of them for the last time in a Wings uniform, more than likely) was disheartening.
Yzerman
Federov
Chelios
Hull
Lidstrom
Joseph
McCarty
When you have guys like this making up your team... there is absolutely no excuse for losing to anybody, let alone the Anaheim Paul Kariya's... er... Ducks. (Running out of names for teams are we?)
I dunno if the Wings went into the series with total confidence in an easy first round or if Philly's disease is contageous... but man even 3 down I thought they could pull it out.
-
Summed up the feelings of many Wing fans well, Saur.
Giguere was a wall the whole series. Wings just couldn't seem to get it into the net. Not to mention that Anaheim played well as a whole. But man, Giguere made the difference.
I just hope that Illich doesn't see the Wings as a lost cause now that Scotty Bowman and so many vets will be gone. I'd hate to see the Wings fade into obscurity. They're all we've got here in Michigan.
-
Does Emilio Estevez still coach for them?

I don't think the wings will fade into obscurity.
however it's probably true that the current 'reign' is over and many of the great names of the game may have seen their last minutes on the ice.
Given time, they'll be back.
-
Even if the wings 'reign' is over, that might be enough for Illich to pull a lot of his funding for the team. 2nd highest paid team in the NHL because it's such a moneymaker for Illich when they win. I've gotta admit, all those free agents we pick up every year make a big difference in the team. Hope Illich doesn't cut that budget in anticipation of tough times ahead.
-
the upcoming salary cap will probably have more impact..
hey, 'my' team will be affected as well :)
Go Av's

Yep, at least it will hurt the Avs too. Some consolation in that. :D

A bunch of people in Southern California just decided to be hockey fans for a while. I think they are the same folks who have "always secretly liked the Angels".
-
finicky fans..
more fans in S.Cal (now)
and way fewer in Detriot (now)..

2 words sum up the Redwings demise....
Curtis Joseph.
He once again proves what a great post season netminder he is. Its no surprise that Toronto didnt try very hard to keep him. When the Wings first signed him the first thought in my head was, "what the hell are they thinking?" He has never been able to perform in the post-season.

Bah, still tons of fans in Detroit. Disappointed fans, but still fans.
The wings are Detroit's best shot at ever winning anything in a pro sport... everyone's still gonna pull for them.
-
:) just trying to get a rise
I'm sure they are as loyal in Detroit as anywhere else.
-
Not to hijack...but I'm going to. :D
I hope I get to see the Sens kick the **** out of Yash tonight. :)

I seem to remember a pretty fair Piston team about 10 years back.
How quickly they forget!

Before my time. Was only about 10 back then (91 was the last one, right?). Never liked basketball anyway... can't run in to people.
But the pistons do appear to be on their way back up. Hope they do well, but don't care enough to watch a game.
heh Gman, funny shtuff.
-
Heheh, good-bye Sir Chokesalot. Buh-bye. See ya all at the finals. :D
