Over the last 10 years I have owned 2 mustang convertibles and neither one of them ever leaked.
BGB, what year? The last 2-tone ones I remember were in 93, and 19k miles seems to good to be true! They do use lots of gas, but thankfully all Mustang GTs are designed to run 87 octane.
-
its a 2001... It was a custom interior job..leather two-tone Grey
GTO,..i love old convt muscle cars..what i dont liek is fixing the little crap that will alwys need upkeep....And i do not like any other New convt out there.....except the New Merceds..which i sout of my range:)
She was asking 19.5..i offered 17..she took 17.5..and thats what a car broker will pay..with 30K+ miles on it...Dam..she only has 19k!.weeee
and fuel..87 octane??..really i was wondering about that..
I was "touching " a former manager here..she had just bouhgt a 2002 GT all loaded drop top..I drov eit everyweekend she left town..was fun as hell...
LMFAo..leaky Soft tops..that was in old days brother...
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I cant wait...
-
Yeah your right about old cars.
The upkeep is a squeak, new cars can spoil you that way.
My poor GTO needs a few things and Ijust have not had the time...
Grr lol plus all my tools are in storage behind all my sisters crap.
-
lolo behind sisters crap..:(
I have had 2 merceds..both with well over 250k miles..on ewas a 79-the other was a 83..
I did all the maintence on them..ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Covered in fukn oil ..everytime...
I left oil everywhere i parked...Only thing i plan on doing in mustang is filling it up with gas...
-
She filled my storage will all her stuff, cause they had to move on short notice. My 3.55 posi rear, tilt colomn and new suspension is all in there along with all my tools lol.
I have had GTO's since I was 17, and man I could tell you some covered in oil stories, lol try putting a GTO on a lift, and pulling the tranny, only to forget to drain it, you and your two buddies take a ****ing shower in the stuff! lol
Man those where the days.... 18 and stupid....
-
lolol..
i was just replacing my generator in my 83 300sd a month ago...ofcourse its got oil all over..
I spoent a day in a half trying to get a bolt off...I didnt want to remove the radioator..cause then i have to disconnect the oil and trans oil coolers which are rigth next to the radiator..
well..after 12 hours of cussing..I stripped the fukn bolt...
I then realized i was on the wrong nut....ARGHHHH..wen tto other one..came off with ease....
BUT..I then wen tto salvage yard..they gave me a single pulley intstead of double pulley...didnt notice till i had it halfaway in....
ya....loads of fun...I then forgot my safty glasses once..and a crust of dirt oil falls in my eye...ya that felt good too...lololol..
I cant wait...But i did buy soem nice tools for my last rides..loll

Why does lower octane fuel require injector cleaning more than higher octane fuel? Technical reason please.
Unless the lower octane fuel is also lower quality in other respects?

Gotta 1996 Mustang GT... car is Dammmm fast. Had it up to 135 on a long straightway and still had pedal left... scared the beJesus outta me.... now I just let the wife drive it.
Congrats on the good deal BGB, did ya get a chance to test drive the Prego chick? heehee.
:D

I'm not sure I would trust that car to 87 octane gas. Is it a GT? I'm assuming it is from your description. If its the 6 cylinder, 87 octane is just fine.
I have a 95 GT (last year for the 5.0 liter engines) and even though the manual says it will run on 87 octane, it don't.
I usually end up running either 92 or 93 octane. If not when it gets under heavy load, say... heavy acceleration on a "interstate onramp" and the RPM's get up to around 4,000 you will hear the valves start to rattle. Very noticeable.
I would suggest at least the "mid grade" of gasoline if you have the 4.6 lt
-
I had a mustang convert 5.0 5 speed and it never leaked a drop... best convert top I ever seen.... glass back window. I put 5,000 miles on it one vacation and it was trouble free... got 25 mpg on the highway and would smoke the tires in the first 2 gears. Pleasant car but...
people wreck em.... they are short wheelbase and they have a high power to weight ratio with...... TORQUE not big block torque but V8 torque nonetheless... learn to recover the car when it is past sideways and you only have 2 lanes to recover in ... use cones in a parking lot.
My '90 5.0 5 speed ex highway patrol car I sold to a 26 year old... he totaled it in 2 weeks after I had driven it for 6 or 7 years. slid it sideways into a pole.
no problems with the car at all. 2 drain plags are a squeak but they kinda shoehorned that 302 into that fox body.

RC51...dam man..u got a big assss tail fin on tht thing..You race at fullsize tracks right?? Where? My friend just raced at the fullsize Sears Point Track..he sadi scared the sht out of him going 110 mph with 20 other guys on his asss..along with cement walls
and do i see ypur radiator in the back?
Yes the 2002 Gt i drove for a bit did get sideways very easy..dam fun..Thank god im used to VERY HIGH Power/weigth ratio ..My 125 Shifter is ..well...a midget on PCP..:D

The Gas all comes from the SAME place, the difference in grades comes from the additives (hence the different octane levels). "Premium" has more than "Mid-Grade", ect. Just because you buy Chevron does not mean Chevron refined that gas. It DOES mean that it has Chevron Additives. Go to a Fuel Distribution Center and watch all the different brand names that go in and out. The stuff you buy off the shelf is more or less the same stuff they add at the Distribution Center. Over a period of time the lower octane will build up more carbon deposits.
Now there are several schools of thought about this. If you are going to spend the whole time street racing, the car probably WOULD do better to buy Premium all the time. However, in normal everyday stop and go driving you will do just fine with "Regular" as long as you include some Additive to the gas on a regular basis (every month or two) to clean out those carbon deposits. Of course, if it's a problem of pings and clatter, you may be forced to use the higher grade gas to stop it. Do a Google Search on Gasoline Octane and you will be surprised.

I like Techron by Chevron, It's good stuff. Don't waste your money on STP Gas. Now if ya want that little boost on the weekends, carry a bottle of Outlaw or 104+ in the trunk. I'm just wondering how long that 1st set of rear tires is gonna last, heheh.
-
lol exactly..tires...are going to be slicks after first month....dam..any suggestion on good inexpensive tires??:)
And im trying to boycott..Cheveron-Shell-Arco..they get oil from places like Saudi-Syria..etc...I want onlu American--South America-- CitGo!!!! i beleive does not buy gas form middle east
-
Kelly Springfield are great tires. You can buy Futura's at Pep Boys, they're made by K-S and cost a LOT less.

My first ride was a 67 Mustang Coupe, with a 289 in it. I paid 2,100$ for it and it was junk. But 2 years and 3K$ later it sold for 8,900$. The cowlings were leaking into the int, it was compleatly rusted out. Pulled it up and found a life time warrenty sticker from ford. I called them up, they hooked me up with a classic car div, they sent me two new floor pans. I also got a poster, and the org sales sticker for it. Come to find out my stang was a star. It was used in a few Ford comercials, and it was on a few bill boards.
So that alone made the car worth alittle more. I restored it to its org cond. My dad helped me day and night.
2 years later it rolled out, in Fire enigne red (I named it radar gun red, due to the 4 tickets I got in just 6 months in it) It had a white vinyl top, steel rims. I had to compleatly re-do the 289. Some knuckle head painted the engine block red. When all Ford Engine blocks were blue back then. The only thing I added to it was a set of flowmasters, CD player speakers, and a sticker on the back window that had a chicken, and a scaredy cat about to fight.... said NO FEAR. I miss that car.
Back in oct 02, I bought a new toy. 03 Roush Stage III prem. I got the laser red paint pkg. Fully loaded. It pushes 360HP, and around 380 Ft Lbs of Torque. I am hoping to pull it out of storage here in the next few days..... Run pony run. ;)
RUN PONY! (http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/sounds/MAC2.WAV)

If the motor is stock it should run fine on 87 or 89 octane. You shouldn't need high test unless your runing boost or alot of timing.
If you feel the need for some octane booster don't waste your money on that crap they sell in the stores. Make your own.

Oh Man, those are sweet. I have only seen 1 on the road and wanted to carjack the guy for it! I'd love to see the new Bullitt Edition Stang...I WOULD carjack that!
I remember my 1st car...Canary Yellow 68 F-100 Long Bed Stepside with the spare mounted on the side. 260cid Straight 6 with Granny 4 Speed. Yeah...we were hicks, but I got more tail in the back of that truck than I've had in the last 5 years.

Ya pay for a hot car, discuss what kind of fuel, but you want to skimp on tires?
Remember, the tires are the only thing that touches the road, everything else sits on top of the tires.
Buy good ones.
-
Good tires and good gas. Baby your car - WTF is wrong with you cheapskate? :D
Now when you want to void the warrenty, give me a call and we'll talk forced induction - 4.6L is alot of space going to waste without a blower. :D
-
lol you guys are great.....i got my car..weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
but i do have questions..just no time now....will reply again ..monday..
salute:)
