I do not want it to turn into a flame war, so consider it as me asking a favor.
Please keep major offtopic talkes out of channel 1.
Seeing Afganistan problem flame on channel 1 during 15 minutes is not fun. I do not want to squelch the whole channel, because there are some other game related information I can not see doing it, greetings and salutations from people etc. Typing 'squelch' 10 times is not fun too.
If you want to discuss it -- post at the OC, its a good place for such discussions, and more people could read it,
Thanks,
Edit:
And to try to keep it constructive, how about adding one channel (10 lets say) as an official "offtopic" AH chat channel?

When you lessen the ability of bored bomber pilots to irritate the hell out of fighter pilots with endless banter, you diminish their effectiveness. :D

Eh....Fariz, you apparently have no idea what WHY we're given the tools to communicate in the first place.
AH itself is just a game. Take away the friendship, communication, meaningless banter, flames, long-winded conversations; take that all away and you're left with nothing more than the equivalent of a single-player boxed game.
The communication--the people--is why we're here in the first place.

So take away flying from it and make AH a chat.
Good luck :)

I agree with fariz. Channel 1 has gotten out of hand, And that's saying a lot.
While we're on the subject, what happened to the wirty-dord filter? or arena monitors for that matter?
-
heh - i remember ch 1.
ah the good ol presquelch days....
-
I too end up .squelching 1 not because I have trouble ignoring the girls chatting, but because the signal to noise ratio is so low that many times important stuff rolls out of the buffer before I get a chance to see it.
Once again, I really really (read: really) feel that a permanent squelch list would be nice.
-
And once again I second the motion for a permanent squelch list.
-
I am also a CH1 squelcher,i don't mind the chatter, but i hate to miss country chat/instructions etc because of it,so Salute to all who kill me (even if you don't hear from me on CH1)

I believe one of my Squadmates said this once. " AH is a Chat room with flightsim plug in " Dosn't matter to me whats said on Ch 1. If it's not something I want to hear about .squelch 1 works for me.

OH! So THATS why all of our planes have guns. I was confused.
Seriously, I play the game to shoot people down in mock air-to-air combat because I am not good enough in real life to make it in the real airforce.
Squelch 1. And squelch 6 (the kill calls). You won't miss much.
Hans.

I agree that it is out of hand, but don't want to be forced to squelch 1.
-
Seriously, we're here for human interaction.
If you're here SOLELY to shoot planes, I advise saving yourself some money and playing offline sims.

Hmm,
Censorship? Not really. Stopping your fun? Maybe. Saying what's on your mind. Priceless! Society for a corrective thought?
I hope not........If you are afraid of an open mic society....then don't listen, that's why the .squelch command is in place.
Some nights it's funny and some nights it's not........turn the channel. I for one like to see what Vulcan and Voss have to say. :D
Some nights it's priceless...some nights zzz.

JAB you sound lonely. Those AOL chat rooms getting boring?

I wouldn't know anything about AOL chatrooms as I don't have AOL and I didn't go to their chat rooms when I did.
AH is a social experience, not a boxed game. AH really isn't even a WW2 game; it just happens to feature WW2-era equipment. We make our own war, fight our own battles, write our own history.
CH1 is perfectly fine.

I dont like alot of the chatter myself on ch1, thats why I squelch it most of the time, but, just what does anyone think its for if not silly chatter?
For squad stuff, we have a squad channel.
For country stuff, we have a country channel.
For missions, we have a mission channel.
For private stuff, we can comm private.
What is ch1 for if not all kinds of weird stuff. Sometimes it can be funny, sometimes off-topic, sometimes related to a just completed fight.
But, I dont see any reason someone should take it upon themselves to decide what is proper and what isnt proper as long as it isn't profane.
I dont think ch 1 should be racist, off color or vulgar, but other than that, I dont object to off-topic chatter.

Coming from the guy who was gonna quit the game because HTC wouldn't let you use the _ (underscore) in your handle? :D
Come on man.

exactly.. but... there must be a way to balance their lack of skill on channel one and their need for attention with gameplay. Right now, the fluffers have too much effect on channel one for the skill required. If channel one accuracy and skill were needed to fluff then wed would have no fluffers.

A valid point - One wouldn't talk about game ops on 1. A permamanent squelch list would be the ticket...
