Title: Another serious bug...
Post by: fscott on October 22, 2000, 04:20:00 PM
I took off from 3 as a Rook.  I spotted a Knight Panzer shooting at 3.  I went out and killed him. It said I shot down Gunthr.  I then see a ground unit about 5 clicks SW of 3.  I ehad toward it and see a Knight Flak unit.  I head toward him and he kills me. Guess what it says... Gunthr killed you.

Amazing how quickly he respawned so close to 3.  I asked him about it, he laughed and said he killed me. That's all he said. I'd say he better explain or this bug needs fixed.

Some spawn points for Vehicle Hangers place your vehicle a good distance from the actual hanger itself. Some are very close to nearby bases ... as with the situation you described.

There is a bug report forum.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Jeezus funked, whats with you playing bug forum police.

I believe this is a GENERAL DISCUSSION forum, and while talking about bugs is of a specific topic, it is ALSO general discussion...

What Exile said.

It's not a bug, it's a spawn point.

Jeezus Antix, whats with you playing helping newbie police.

I believe this is a GENERAL DISCUSSION forum, and while talking about bugs is a general topic, there is a SPECIFIC FORUM for bug reports that the moderator and the programmers have repeatedly asked that we use.

I don't think a FRIENDLY reminder to a newbie that he might want to post in the correct forum is at all out of line.  Especially when said newbie has established a pattern of reporting non-existant bugs and problems in the wrong forum.

Of course I actually play the games whose BBS I post on.  So I am actually concerned that bugs get fixed in a timely fashion.  I can see how my attitude might not make sense if one is unencumbered by such concerns.

Ok let me get this right. There is a spawn point approximately 8-10 clicks SE of A3?

Also, there is nothing there. No buildings nothing. He spawned on plain terrain.

Yup...I can't say specifically that there's a spawn point where you mention, but it's likely.  The spawn points for vehicles don't have buildings near them...they're designed to make driving a vehicle more feasable, since driving to the nearest base from a vehicle field in a panzer would take hours.  In this latest terrain they seem to be a lot closer to other fields than in the previous, but it makes for some pretty interesting battles   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Spawn points are not visable at all. That's why they are called spawn points. They spawn from a vehicle field sometimes 25-40miles away. This is to alleviate the dweebs.. I mean tank drivers driving time to attack nearby airfields.

I think it's great fun...

Someone will be near or attacking a base, and I'll grab a tank, we'll exchange Panzer fire, he/she will usually get me (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif).  If I get them they are usually back soon and the fun continues.

Friendly reminder to a newbie is one thing, but you did the same thing to me when I posted about technical issues in a thread called "Funny", I'm not a newbie.

Oooh, almost missed that comment about me not being an online player of Aces High... Well, seems to me I can get the same'old terrain tile missing a plane under it, and other such old Hitech bugs back in Warbirds for 5 bucks less a month! And in reading your precious bug forum, there are A LOT of old bugs from warbirds transfered over here.

So, because I'm not a paying member over here, according to you I can't follow its progress nor comment on its progression. two words for ya... PISS OFF.

Last I checked, this is america bub, free to talk what I want, where I want.

No, you're right, thats exactly what it was.

He appears to have a habit of it.

The topic had already downgraded to general discussion with Exiles post.

Besides, I doubt I'd ever see "Sorry we can't get to that bug in time, well...simply put, you posted it in the General Discussion forum rather than the bug report forum."

Fscott, I apologize if that sounded insulting.

Antix, whatever.

Apology accepted for the time you did it to me too... You don't have to say it, I know you feel it.

It did seem insulting, intended or not.

Hi fscott,

I'm sorry I did not explain right away, but I did explain. I guess you missed it. I couldn't help laughing at first because you were so intent on "exposing" me in such a public fashion, and you were so certain that you had uncovered a cheater.

I don't recall the Vehicle base number, but I simply clicked the northwest direction from there, and poof! I magically appeared where you saw me appear. That is a spawn point.

Generally speaking, if you believe that someone may be cheating (it's happened) its best to use "alt s" or "alt r" to get a picture of it as supporting evidence, and then either e-mail the suspect for an explanation, or take it straight to AH administration.

No harm done here. I can understand why you thought I was cheating you.

<S>  Cheers, Gunthr

Thx Ripsnort  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) yep, was good clean fun. LOL Actually all this confusion is your fault for getting me laughing with your comments "Gunthr be 'splainin", etc so I couldn't tell fscott in a timely fashion what the deal was...

Antix I'm sorry if I insulted you too.
I know Fscott is new so I am just trying to help him help us.

I had a chat with Ronni about the bug report forum at the Con.  HTC really does use that forum - if you look at the bug fix lists and the posts on that forum, the similarity is no coincidence.

So I say this to everybody, if you find a bug, put it in there.  That will maximize the chances of it getting fixed.

Thanks funked  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I will say though, and this is probably because they have no idea whats causing it, but I posted a report in the Tech Support forum... (as per funkeds idea in that other post) And Ronni asked me a couple questions. which I answered, and its not resolved. They're probably trying to figure out how to recreate it, or how to solve it. But a little note would be nice. Actually solved would be a lot better.

I destroyed a spawn point once. Was in a canyon on the current terrain, trying to zero in on an enemy panzer (I was a panzer too). Got a near miss with an AP round just to one side of him, buffer came up with Host: Spawn Point destroyed

dunno if it stopped people from spawnng from there tho, I was killed 30 seconds later.
