Well, I thought I would share a really great time I had last night in the MA. For most of you, this would be old hat stuff, but for me, it was an event to remember.
As most of you know, I am not a good pilot, as I really do not have the time to practice as much as I need to. That said;
I hopped in a P51D last night and was just doing some flying manuevers at what I thought was a fairly secluded spot in the MA.
When I spot two of my comarades (AKSWulfe and I did not catch the other pilot name) chasing a dot, which I figured was an enemy fighter. The enemy pilot was on the deck trying to extend from the fight.
I was at 10K and so could not really tell what was happening, so I dropped the nose and went for an intercept with the extending ememy.
When I got into icon range, the enemy was a 51D also, and was successfully leaving AKSWulfe and company behind. Now, in the back of my mind, I am thinking, "rightfully this kill belongs to those other 2 pilots". I hit WEP and kept the nose over, when I got under D1 I let lose a burst and pinged the enemy a few times. He immediately went into an upward loop, probably hoping to get on my 6. I had too much speed at that time so I continued knowing he would not be able to get a shot at me at my speed.
What the enemy pilot did not realize, was AKSWulfe and company were still back there and when he came around, they got him.
For me this was a huge event. It was the first time I got on a pilots 6, and, even though I did not get the kill, my commrades held thier line and got him.
Now, I had turned to rtb, and was about halfway home, when I run into 2 enemy pilots. They had alt advantage on me, so me being the novice, decided to turn back and head towards my commrades. They nosed over and got a couple of pings on me, before they lost thier speed advantage.
They stayed on my 6 though, and I lead them to AKSWulfe and Verm, who had just arrived. I did not execute a perfect draw, but I felt really good when I saw my commrades open up and take them down. Later Verm and AKSWulfe gave me some pointers on executing the draw better <S>.
By this time, AKSWulfe and I were both suffering from being wounded, so we rtb'ed. I almost made it back, before crashing at the end of the runway.
All the above was happening around A31 last night and I have no idea who those enemy pilots were, but it was a lot of fun.
Now, I am back at the tower, and decide to head back up, taking a heading directly over A31.
I arrive there at 10K, and I spot some remote dots, which did not bother me, but this 109 was closing on me, so we proceed to try to get the shot on each other. During that time I notice 6 other enemy fighters around me.
I continue to manuever around and try to get that shot on that 109. 3 of the other enemy fighters were starting to take thier shots at me. Some were close, and I did get pinged once. Still turning and burning like a maniac though I manage to get out of thier sites. I notice I am running low on fuel and decide I better rtb.
Now I am in the middle of 7 fighter planes, with low e and only 6K altitude. I was sweating by this time and not really sure how to escape. I knew there was at least one other P51D enemy near me, so I knew I needed the most speed I could get.
I invert and roll downward, hitting the WEP at the same time. All the while fearing my stick movements would rip off my wings in this loop. I break level at 2K, and look back and am leaving all behind.
I make it back to the field, touch down, just as the fuel is gone, cost and sit in the cockpit for 5 minutes, shaking and sweating and feeling better than I have felt in a long time.
No kills, but was not killed either. For me this was an incredible triumph. <S> to those enemy fighters above A31 for the most immersive fun I have ever had.
When I finally calmed down, I got on Ch1 and saluted whoever it was up there at A31 and DR00 came back and asked "were you that 51?". I said "yes". Then, to cap it all off,...as if the fight was not enough,...he simply states "great flying".
Now folks, for me, this was the epitomy of my time in AH. I am even getting pupmed talking about it.
I hope this novice pilot hasn't bored you. I just had to tell the tale.

LOL! You did great Skuzzy (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
I have been flying for something like 6 years now, and I still get that nervous "shake" in my hands during intense combat (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
Its that kind of excitement that keeps me coming back over and over.

That first one for you was a kick Skuzzy... and it was me there not AKSWulfe (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
AKWabbit and I had met up with 2 P-51's. Wab was coming from the se and I was coming from the ne... I was co-alt with the p-51's but wab was at a disadvantage. He drug them to the deck and evaded while I fought blackout trying to descend on the bogies.
Just as I got in position.. Wab succumbed to 6 .50s. The pilot didn't have time to savor his victory as I tore the back half of his plane off. I came around for his buddy and found him co-alt and co-e. Realizing he didn't have his wingy and a low turn-fight with an F4 may not be wise... he began to run. I was 700 yards back but knew I could not catch him. I chased anyway.
At that time, I saw Skuzzy up high. He was about 3k behind me and I wasn't sure if he was going to get in or not. As I fell to 1.2 back on the P-51, I began a slow climb (thanky HTC for not making those totally bleed e anymore). I leveled at about 3k alt 2.5k behind the p-51 as Skuzzy went tearing by in a P-51 of his own. I think I heard his plane creaking from 1k away (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) He closed on the 51 faster than I though he could and fired off a few volleys. The P-51 went verticle and began to level off inverted at 3k. I don't think he ever saw me.
I could actually feel Skuzzy's excitement. He got right on the comms and started congradulating and describing the situation. It was truly a pleasure to see.
Thanks for tailing the guy Skuzzy, I would have never got revenge for my squadie if you weren't there (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) <S!>

Reminds me of that 1st flight in the MA with a friend (Groundhog). we were both in Spitfires, were verry terrified & were shot to pieces 5 minutes after take off (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

AKDejaVu, sorry about the mistaken identity. I did hesitate to dive in, as I saw you chasing him, and he was still out of ICON range, so I could not tell what kind of plane he was in.
When I saw him leaving you behind I decided to try to force him back to you. You chased him, you deserved the kill. I think I would have only tried to take him down, if he had chosen to continue to outrun me. I am glad you got him.
DR00, lol. I was wondering what was causing the excess drag on my plane. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) I only wish I would have had more fuel to continue that battle.
Vermillion, I hear ya. Heck, I am getting the shakes thinking about getting back up the air! This is a blast!
Citibria,...what can I say. Thank you. Means a lot coming from a pilot of your skills.
WizofClay, I know what you mean, I am just going nuts trying to schedule time to fly!
Ice, its hard to imagine it could be anymore exciting than this. Just being able to fly and live to talk about it was and is a major accomplishment for me.
Saintaw, that is pretty much how it has been for me all the time. This is the first time I really felt like I contributed to my country, and to my commrades. Indeed, a very proud moment for me.
Suffice it to say, I won't be saying how bad of a pilot I am anymore, as now I know I can have my moments and those moments well be awesome! I hope I can get some time today to fly some more.

NP on the mistaken identity Skuzzy.
To be honest, I wouldn't have cared if you got the bogie... just so long as he didn't make it home allive (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) It felt good to get him though... and it felt even better to see you so happy about it.

Cool story skuzzy, sometimes making it out of an impossible situation is better than the kills.

When I posted the story, I had no idea the response I would get. I just needed to talk about it.
You guys are all great. Thank you for many responses. I am glad it was enjoyed.
Just goes to show, when you scrap off the superficial stuff that goes on, in ch1 and the BB, there is a great core community here.
You guys are to be commended.

You know, I am really glad everyone enjoyed this story.
But, I only relayed the story. There were many pilots who made this story possible.
Recent talks in other threads got me thinking. Let me give you an example. This story would have not occurred had DR00 responded, "You dweeb coward, running from a fight", instead of "great flying".
Just got me thinking. This story is more about respect than anything else. There were 13 pilots involved in this story. Any that chose to comment, have done so with a great amount of respect towards the other pilots. They could have just as easily been negative comments, which would have made this story a lot harder to tell.
Look at that 51 that was running from DejaVu. Never heard DejaVu make any negative comment about that. Nobody over 31 told me I was a coward for running.
I think there are a lot of these types of stories available, but they get tainted by someone who shows the pilots involved a lack of respect.
Respect and honor,....yes, they are definately here in large doses. <S> to all of you. I look forward to the next story.
