What do you think and why?
-
C'mon... let's all just throw in with an uninformed opinion...
I'll sit this one out.
-
sandman, this web board is all about "uninformed opinion"
It is not like he is going to be tried here.
-
I think the most suspicious thing is how drastically he changed is appearance. Dyed his hair and grew a gotie (dyed that too). If my wife and unborn child was kinapped/missing I wouldn't be thinking about going to a hairdresser.
Just odd, I will wait and watch though.
-
Why shouldn't we talk about it again sandman? Its not like we're on the jury. Its not like we're imposing a sentance.
Seems the guy has acted too suspiciously. From deciding to go fishing on Christmas eve (on the same day is wife coincidently turned up missing) to his immediate sale of her car to his drastic change in appearance. The signs are all there.
BTW... FBI profilers would place this guy immediately.
Here's to hoping that California doesn't screw up another air tight case.

With all that's going on in the world, the last thing on my mind is "Did Laci's husband do it?". The news media is obviously running out of positive things to say about Dubya's little foray so they beat this subject to death now. What a crock.

You can do whatever you like.
-
I think he's guilty.I am absolutely convinced.
But...unless Modesto has evidence they haven't shown,I'm not convinced he'll get convicted.
Laci was found in the lake two miles from where he was fishing?Pretty damning, but circumstantial.
He was found with his appearance changed and $10K?Again,looks very bad,but doesn't prove he actually did it.
I hope they nail him,but as everything stands so far,I'm not convinced they'll be able to.
-
I think he did it based on how he is acting.
Plus he was porking a chick on the side.
I hope they have enough on him to put him away for a long time.
-
Gary Condit did it.
-
I've been following this case from the beginning, and I think Colonel Mustard did it in the Study with the Lead Pipe.
-
First off-I have not paid close attention to the media reports so where I am wrong-I am sure there are plenty of you that will set me straight.
Is the husband the first, most reasonable, most logical suspect-YOU BET. Mainly due to circumstantial connections.
But let's piece together a part of the puzzle-At the time of Laci's dissapearence and the husband's "fishing trip"-Laci was pregnant (full term) ABOUT to give birth anytime.
When the bodies were found there were TWO-a de-capitated adult female and a new born infant. Later DNA tests confirmed that it was indeed Laci and her baby.
What that tells me is that sometime after her disappearence she gave birth-but where? In a hospital, In captivity, where?
I am no medical expert but I believe that at the time of her disappearence-if she was killed on that "fishing trip" while still carrying the child then the child would have died in the womb.
Like I said at the start, I could have missed several things that were reported by the media. But knowing how the media is these days-if there were signs of "spontainious birth" or something like that-it would have been reported.
It's BS like this that creates reasonable doubt and will probably let this guy (IF he did it) walk.
(*steps off soapbox-welcomes the critics)
-
Mike, the fetus died in the womb and as Laci's body bloated was popped out. (Yecccch, reminds me of scraping that dead cat off my R.V. pad Saturday.)
-
I agree-that is utterly disgusting! That's probably why I haven't been paying close attention to the reports-it's just sick that this kind of thing even happens.
-

LOL! :D
Actually, the fact that a guy with a beautiful wife like Laci would even consider an extra-marital affair makes him deserving of the chair!
-
What that tells me is that sometime after her disappearence she gave birth-but where? In a hospital, In captivity, where?
Mike, they said the baby was full-term, with the umbilical chord attached. Doesn't sound to me like it was born before it died.
-
Depends on the jury selection.
My bet's on conviction. Definitely life w/out parole, maybe the death penalty.
-
it's xmas eve, my wife is due anytime, i'm having a affair, i think i'll take a "fishing trip"....you decide.
-
I think it was just an accident. He went fishing with her and she fell off the boat. And her head got caught on some coral, that's why it fell off. Yeah, that's the ticket!
Too bad he whacked her. She had the makings of a MILF.
-
Why am I going to regret asking Funked what a "MILF" is? :D

Not Guilty... at least if he is represented by Johnny Cochran.
-
LOL, Stifler's mom, how could I forget! :)
Hey, I'm married to a MILF :D
-
I am a cop near wher the bodies were found.
Yesterday while leaving work one of the guys made a interesting comment. "Prove murder" He is right.
Currently the cause of death for the two are "unknown". All Scott has to say is something like "she slapped me and I pushed her to stop the attack, she fell and hit her head, I paniced as no man in Calif can get a fair trial where any domestic violence is involved".
Lets hope Modesto PD has more info so he doest get off. They are holding the cards fairly close on this one We will all find out in a couple of weeks when the prelim exam is held.
-
He did it. Proving it is another matter. I suspect that evidence was gathered at the residence that we are unaware of.
At any rate, the investigation has run the full diamond course.

And I think you have an opinion one way or the other. We all do. That's how it can be discussed. To indicate otherwise is to lie about your true nature.
Now, he shouldn't be convicted till proven guilty. But we aren't talking about sending him to jail. We're talking about wether we think he did it. Since none of us mean **** in the grand scheme of things.... that's pretty much all this thread is about.
Its strange how people turn oppinions on and off depending on how morally superior it makes them feel.

Only in the "eyes" of the law. He became guilty as soon as he did it, or remained innocent if he didn't.

Hey we all know people can only be convitced in public without evidence or trial if, and only if, the accused is a white male and the charge involves sexism or racism. At that point the evil perpetrator must immediately resign from his job, make a tearful apology to Al $harpon and give large sums of money to Je$$e Jack$on or NOW..

Yeah I was stoked when I found out the guy was white. He's gonna fry.

Yep. I know that there are many, many murders committed every year in this country. I'm extremely curious as to why this one is getting so much attention. I read this thread in hopes that someone would enlighten me. Sooooo. . . . . . . . . . . why? Are the media pumping it because y'all want to know, or do you all want to know because the media says you should?
-
Please excuse me for this radical opinion!
Relaying on media reports on any case, without any knowledge of submitted evidence, proves your facing the south end of a northbound mule. Unless you work in a level higher than the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights granted to all Americans or the Modesto Police Department, you might want to wait until the prosecution makes it’s case.
Guess what makes the USA great! Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Not the hearsay from some government official or the media. Those rights were not available to the people of Iraq for over 25 years. Stop and think about the 150 Americans died to give a people basic human rights last month. Maybe, just maybe, they’ll learn about innocent until proven guilty. Lord knows the government of Iraq could do whatever it wanted without the repercussions… until now.
I still believe in the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the United States of America. I still believe that a jury should decide the outcome of this case.
-
Arfan are you seriously suggesting the media, as in all the newschnells and newspapers, has kept on this story since DECEMBER so they could bring it out at the end of the Iraq war to purposefully distract us from the goings on in Iraq. Are you saying that the body was only found, or revealed to us, again to coincide with the end of the war to hide "something" and distract us from "something".

Actually, I doubt it unfolded as you describe. The timing is probably just a coincidence. But the war (if you can call it that) is becoming "old news", and this reality soap opera will do to keep up ratings without resorting to something like reporting how Golden Boy is screwing the economy. Oh, and I heard on Fox last night that one of the folks prosecuting the case is keeping his face up front on the tube 'cause he's running for office soon. Aw, well, it's just like us good ol Murkens to take someone's personal tragedy and make a three ring circus out of it. Makes me wanna puke. Excuse me one moment . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . There, I feel better now.

And all the world loves a dreamer. Our system is absolutely the best ever . . . . . . . . . . . for us. In Iraq, as in Afghanistan, the tribes will go back to battling each other until, once again, one takes control and weilds the tyrannical sword over the others. That, after a long or short period of time while we take "light" casualties trying to maintain order. It's the way they've been for many hundreds of years before we were even a country. So, as much as I hate to say it, those 150 young American lives and thousands of Iraqi lives are for nothing more than Dubya and his cronies pocket books and bragging rights.
Edited to add: And I hope with all my heart my conclusions are completely, dead, wrong. Thank you and good night.

Damn Grunz, you might have a slightly bigger head then me and you might talk funny, but you are spot on- this salamander killed his wife, smirked in the face of every news camera that focused on his dumb bellybutton and is as guilty as sin. Sorry, dude, but nobody is gonna attack a pregnant lady walking a BIG dog in an upper middle class neighborhood on Christmas Eve and then dismember her body and dump it in the exact same place her husband goes fishing on the last day she is seen alive.
Sorry all but Scott Peterson killed his wife and unborn son, and he will be convicted, and he will be sentanced to death. Now does anyone want to bet?

So let me get this straight. If one comes to the conclusion that what's right for us isn't necessarily what's best for the rest of the world he's racist? An obvious case of the pot calling the kettle black. ;) Hypochondriac, warped, angry, scheming? Are you sure you aren't understating it a bit? Its nice to live in America because we can say whatever we want about this case and then sit back and let the judicial system work completely independant of what we have said.
In some other countries, the man would have been killed by an angry mob on Christmas day. And... near as I can tell, money has nothing to do with that. Of course, in other countries, the man would not of had to deny it, only to say the woman told him the child wasn't his and he did the only thing allowed by the laws of his religion. And... once again, money has nothing to do with that.
This gentleman has been free since the incident occured because the current system in America had to take his word for things. Once enough evidence (all be it circumstantial) was accumulated, only then was there authority to act on those suspicions. Its what makes America great and its what is one of America's greatest weaknessses. We can discuss the "case" all we want, but it means nothing because we, the the distant and removed, are not deciding the man's fate.
By the way... as a side note... Usually, when we extridite a suspected murderer from Mexico, the government of Mexico makes us (those states with the death penalty) agree to not pursue the death penalty. I've seen this in several cases tried in Oregon. Christian Longo was just sentanced to death for the murder of his wife and 3 children after being extridited. I wonder what that says about the world's view of someone that would murder his own family because they became inconvenient.
BTW... the major lure of this case is that it is quite simply intriguing .

I'm saying that, in the cases we're talking about, that's the way their society works. Not saying they're wrong, just stating the facts. "Wrong" is thinking we can go in and change them to our way of governing. Next, you'll be wanting to send in missionaries to make them God Fearing Christians.

Motive
Method
Oppertunity
We are missing method, all we have is a body w/ no cause of death. Again lets just hope more evidance is avalable. I dont want to see him walk.

I know I can't tell them apart. Apply the Paton principle. Kill them all and let God sort them out.
That being said, I too think they will devolve into tribal war. It is the way it is. Heck, most of them believe that the clerics really converse with God.

Yea, he's probably guilty, but with what little I know about the evidence, or lack thereof, a good attorney could get this guy off.
From published sources what have we got....
He was "near" the area the bodies turned up, on the day she disappeared. Near, means 3+ miles in this case. Easy fodder for a decent lawyer to at least question the relevance.
He Sold her car. But his truck was impounded, and he needed a truck to make a living. Also "her car" was in his name.
He put the house up for sale. Man's gotta eat!
He had concrete molds in his garage. Piling anchors... duh! Had a baby on the way and wanted to cover the patio.
$10k in his pocket. He moved and hadn't opened an account in San Diego yet.
(Johnny Cochran would eat this prosecution for lunch)

OK MT, I'll bite.
He was "near" the area the bodies turned up, on the day she disappeared. Near, means 3+ miles in this case. Easy fodder for a decent lawyer to at least question the relevance.
Modesto is what, 125 miles inland from Berkeley? And her body was found in the same general area where we know he was Christmas Eve? Sounds like a hell of a coincidence to me- a killer dumped his wife's body two-three miles in the same body of water he was fishing at.
He Sold her car. But his truck was impounded, and he needed a truck to make a living. Also "her car" was in his name.
Would you sell your wife's car if she were missing? Or would you hold out and hope she was coming home?
He put the house up for sale. Man's gotta eat!
You're right- he put the house up for sale 48 hours after Laci disappeared. "Man's gotta eat?" How many Big Macs can you buy with ten thousand dollars? Once again, seems to be unusual behavior for a grieving, frantic husband to take the time to call the Realtor and list the house.
He had concrete molds in his garage. Piling anchors... duh! Had a baby on the way and wanted to cover the patio.
He must have been using his boat to mix the concrete because they found cement in his boat.
$10k in his pocket. He moved and hadn't opened an account in San Diego yet.
LOL right, MT- wouldn't you ask for a money order from your bank in case you got robbed? Couldn't you use an ATM card as conveniently as you can cash? Would you have a passport application if you weren't planning on leaving the country? Why the dye job and the gotee?
To believe a very pregnant lady walking a very big dog in a very middle class neighborhood was abducted, killed and dumped 120 miles away in San Francisco bay at the very same time her husband was fishing in San Francisco Bay, three miles from where she was dumped, is much harder for me to believe than a scenario where a husband kills his wife, chops her up, tapes her up in a blue tarp with cement for an anchor, puts her in the boat, drives to San Francisco Bay and dumps her body.
