Got involved in a minor tiff with another niggit last night and thought I post to see what others think on this one....
Was relatively low count for MA (least when I fly...110 or so). Anyway had been playing tag with ackacks ki-67s for a couple sorties (unfortunately he was more than holding his own)...bout 3rd hop I engaged him and knocked off a wing (have tough time hitting with la-5 so was inside 200 and he nailed me (oil). As I pulled up I saw a la-7 and other niggit and so I rolled over that way as I headed back to land my "cripple". I watched what seemed to me to be an even fight...since the la-7 is the uber rocket down low and I was dropping oil I jumped in...couple of passes and he gave his 6 to other guy (pony)...so I trailed in toward base...la-7 evaded so i went back in and he had to surrender position on pony who then dinged him (oil and aerlion).
He then starts screaming at me to stay away from "his kill"...so I go hi...we're right by town near base now and im gona go glider in 1-2 min...give him a minute more...doesnt seem he has a clue that la-7 has gathered enough E and angle to go offensive on him...anyway come back in and finish the la-7 (he got kill anyway) so I could ditch and get ranted on again....:)
Anyway since I posted my own %$%& whine a couple weeks ago I thought I'd ask.
To me if someone asks you to stay out of a "friendly fight" early thats fine in a slow enviornment (yes I know we have a DA). Shooting at various "parts" floating to earth is bad form....beyond that when...if at all...do you stay away from someone elses "kill"...to me if he has ammo and can control his plane I'm gonna kill him.
However, using your "friendly" as bait is still bad form in my book...shane and I saw it with 190 who left his "wingie" out to dry on multiple hops...to try and snag kill.

You can call "dibs" all you want in AH, but don't expect people to care. Nath and I had great fun at some n00b's expense a few weeks ago as he called out which planes he was going to vulch. "That guy who just spawned is mine, stay away from him!" he'd declare on vox. Nath and I set up a nice vulching pattern to ensure that he never got to a single one of them.
It's not bad form to kill someone more quickly than your fellow countryman; he should work faster next time. It is bad form to shoot at the obviously neutered pieces of a soon-deceased plane as it tumbles earthward, though even that doesn't bother me so much.

The obvious kill steal is shooting into burning or wingless planes, unacceptable at any time.
One that occurs when the nme is still fully functional, and this only applies when it's 1v1 and no other nme in area, is when one pilit has worked the nme into a position of indefensibility and you zoom by him and shoot the nme plane up.
I mean, you see your teammate on the guy's 6, he's close in and in need of no help. Then, just because you're in a faster plane or you've got more e, you decide to zoom by and nail the nme plane this other poor schlep worked to get the ad on. I disagree with doing that.
But, in your situation, it sounds like neither fiter has the clear advantage so I would not call that a "kill steal."

No such thing as kill stealing in my opinion.
Tell the whiner to suck it up and stop crying.

Basically what I did...just was amazed at the anger the other guy had...whats funny is earlier I had shane grab a couple out from under me...as DMF said...he's just faster than I am:)...to me it's part of the game.

If you were near A37/A32/A35 area, that was Awakks in the Ki-67 and not me.
And what you didn't wasn't a kill steal, you just beat the other guy to the punch and it's his fault that he misjudged the situation that pretty much forced you to come in and save his ass.
I was in a similiar situation the other night. I spotted a fellow Knight (spitman) down on the deck fighting an La7. The La7 was maneuvering enough that he was keeping out of Spitman's field of fire. I called on vox and text chat to see if spitman needed some assistance. He never replied but since it didn't look like he was in immediate danger and neither he or the La7 had the advantage over one another, I kept my altitude and loitered above and watched. At the point that it appeared the La7 had gained the advantage over spitman, I called out over vox that I was going to enter the fight to make the La7 turn and break off spitman. I did this about 4 times to keep the La7 from gaining the advantage over spitman but not once did I fire. After the fourth time, I saw that spitman was never going to gain the advantage or get the kill without some assistance, I called over vox that I was going to enage for the final time to finish off the La7, which I did and got the kill credit while spitman got the assist.

Was workin a Pony last night and another Knight came in and killed him for me........not a problem, I think he was in position to have the pony jump on him if I failed. (this has happened to me too many times to count, other guy got him.....fly off ignoring the damaged plane that is still flying and happens to be pointed in my direction) and I was having trouble getting around on him.
I will stay out of a fight up to the point that my country man is in trouble. Unless we are in middle of base defense / capture. When it matters at times like this, I dont think you can sit back and watch. Been talked bad about for it before, but thats ok.
What ticks me off is flying over a fight, just watchin my countrymans six, checkin for others nme's, and the 1st nme takes a run at me.......then when its over he complains about "that 109 who came along and ruined a good duel." :p

Kill stealing is relative. It depends on the person you are saving/helping on how it's perceived.
I used to care, but if I see an angle now I'm in.

I think we all know if and when we're kill stealing and when we're honestly clearing "6" and savin' butt!
I use my best judgement and usually get a Thanks man, WTG more often than I get a "chewin". On those rare occasions, I apologize and move to another area of the map.
As someone said it's......preception.
-
Again ....kill stealing is relative...
If its obvious the bad guy is going down in flames/missing wing then DONT GO FOR HIM.
If its questionable...i.e. he is smoking......then I say fair game...cant tell you how many times I have allowed a wounded bogey to slip by and WHAM not paying attention he kills a squaddie or myself.
One thing I do hate is when you are saddled up on a guy and killing him to have one of your countrymen roll in between you and the baddie and end up getting yourself kill shot. THAT SUCKS.....I say common courtesy and let the guy you are gonna fly in front of "IM COMING IN" "Check Fire"...anything....
My Two Cents!:)

i usually will get the kill early if i have advantage . if i dont get that kill then i am in trouble if the fight last very long, i.e.,his buddies jumping me, so any help from anyone is always appreciated.

and expected!!!;)

Well I don't know, one day last week I was about 4k over Shane and I saw a la5 closing in on his 6, and he actually asked for help, musta been low on ammo, so being the concerned teammate I dove down and managed to get a few pings on the la5 as I proceeded to zoom past him and create a new subway entrance near 145, So I accomplished several things there, I pulled an enme off a teammate, I helped the urban planning team by creating a useful entrance to the train station coming soon to the suburbs, and as I reupped to finish the job, (first in mind was killin the laffy, but smoothing out the new walls of the subway entrance was still a possibility) I asked Shane if the laffy was dead and got the affirmative, the bastage stole my kill !! :)
In all seriousness, I ask over vox if someone needs help, if no answer I ask if no vox, just hit text and enter if need help, if his name pops I go in, if not I wait til outcome of below battle, and pounce if bogie won it, but if he turns towards me during the battle i will try to kill him first, I never beech about someone stealing a kill and our squadies all try to steal each others kills lol
Our squad Motto in AW was - Steal A Kill A Day !!

NwBie,
I agree....I always ask for help on vox....I also pass of information to the guys entering a fight. BTW glad you are a rook and good seeing you flying!!!!
THanks again to JBird2k (think that was him) who bailed my bellybutton out of the fire yesterday morning while I had 3 on me....THANKS

I used to worry more about stealing a guy's kill, but i recall several instances of skirting a fight to leave two planes to themselves, only the bogey rockets off onto me and shoots me up! Nowadays, I kindly ask if friendly needs help, usually the guy says yes. Rarely does friendly say "no, i got it". If i get no response, i just use judgement -- a very good stick? probably stay out, circle above watching for xtra nmy...unknown stick? may dive in, depends on my mission. If someone starts whining about kill stealing i don't much care, its war! Any bogey near a base is fair game!! Last thing you need is the nmy bogey pealing off to vulch your arnold as you settle your smoking bird on the runway -- had that happen as well. Last thing, if you got a shot, you just HAFTA take it, right? :)

This is a good reason to turn off tracers. Then your countrymen can't tell that you are trying to steal their kill... j/k

OUCH SOUR THAT HURT!!!!!!!!!!!.....LOL

I've stayed out of 1-v-1's, watched the friendly lose, dive in to take my turn only to have his buddies happen along with no intention of showing the same courtesy (which I certainly don't expect). Occasionally I just need to relearn not to stay out of fights in the Mayhem Arena.

Actually, I usually work well with impromptu wingmen. Maybe its because I'm a Rook and we don't seem to have as many new guys per capita as the Bishops, but most of the pilots I find are pretty mature about their flying. If someone is in a better position, I'll let the other guy get the first attack because (a) it gives me time to grab alt and (b) if he misses his attack, I can come in and bat clean-up after he's knocked a few pieces off the target.
That, plus the fact that everyone instantly recognizes and respects the Shillelagh logo on the nose of my Yak and Mustang and knows what a supa-dupah ninja Death-From-Above, Behind, and In-Your-Face who's-yer-daddy crackerjack fighter ace I am.

you guys have nose art?? :D

My new motto in life:)....
Thanks for all the comments on this...whats funny is he got the kill (engine cut out on dive so I was actually glider) and then started babbling again....sigh....

Humble:
There are some who would kill to get a kill. Once identified, I suggest you fly the next sector over and away from them. :D
