I know this is a flight sim and that is the main focus but these ground vehicles are completely wack. Last night rooks trying to get v75 had one tiger sitting on the field. Numerous b17 drops and jabos with direct hits and the tiger never even smoked!! Took so much time and effort on the one tiger the V base pops back up and the Knights were able to hold that base for a couple of hours longer. I congrat those knights and there valiant effort at v75 but that tiger was ridiculously immpossible to kill!
I decide to use a tiger today and took one shot from a panzer and I blew up? So whats with the varing innconsistances of this perked(porked) GV? I just wish someone could explain how one mans Tiger can take pure hell thrown at it and yet another can get hit with a rubber bullet and explode on one shot! So to sum it up please fix em or get rid of em.:D
And to all those fighting at V75 last night to you all!

I personally put 4 AP rounds into an Osti a few days ago, from a panzer, at point blank range. I saw another panzer put 4 rounds into him.
He finally exploded after the 8th hit.
I can't explain it. The hit sprites showd up right at the point where the turret meets the hull.

tiger threads
the tiger would not die , we dropped 100,000# of bombs on it, all direct hits.
i was in a tiger and died with one hit from a 303.

yes that is the problem everyone gets one way or the other its annoying allready!

well since tigers seem immune to bombs you gotta hit em with fire...if german 30mm dont work try if 20mm hispano doesnt work try american 20mm then try .50's then try british .303's then american .303's then try italian .303's... im sure one will get em

I rate this whine a 3.5 on the Whine-O-Meter. It just seems so uninspired and lacking a certain something it's hard to give it a higher ranking. It's too bad because with the title, "GV's need to be fixed or be gone!", one would think he would get a higher Whine-O-Meter ranking but unfortunately it just nosed dived from there.

I rate your intellegance at about 2.5 on the IQ-O-Meter. If you don't have anything consructive to ad to the post then don't post at all! Funny how people are quick to jump on the whine trail on these boards. Gee and I thought the forums were for talking about issues and concerns in the game we are paying monthly for.
My bad I guess:rolleyes:

I thought you were complaining about a neighbours horny dog , who just happened to be named GV.
But about your point: anyone who plays enough GVs will eventually run into odd things like you've mentioned, I just go with the flow, cause sooner or later, i'm the guy in the Flak who takes 10 AP rounds.
But I did notice it seems to depend on where you're positioned, someone sitting on the white parts of a town or gv base seems to have the ability to take more rounds. This might not be a fact, but it is my observation.

Shooting tanks is not like shooting airplanes.
With an airplane its made of aluminum. You put a bullet in one side it blows up stuff, and exits out the other.
A few of those hits and something falls off it can't fly without.
A tank has LARGE armoured surfaces, bullets tend to bounce off unless JUST EXACTLY at the right angle.
It takes a certain amount of PUNCH to get through that armour.
Yet a good shot esp from above can pop right through rear deck armour & start fires, kill engine, disable tank. Perhaps even blow it up.
Are ground vehicles modeled not well enough? I don't think so. I trust that HT has done his homework. He's been through the GV damage modeling TWICE!
I think they are modeled just fine, but that as in the real world there are some lucky sob's. There are some guys who catch the golden BB and die when perhaps they shouldn't.
What I do know is that he's not going to go through the DM again, and all your whineing is doing is filling up space on a BBS.
Enjoy

Anytime I get into a GV it seems a couple rounds of 50 cal will leave me dead or gunless. Yet let me make numerous passes with Typhoon Hispanos on a Panzer or Osti and nothing happens.
Go figure.

Had .50's take out my tigr once, didnt quite understand the DM on that one seeing as how he came from the front on the deck.
But it would be nice to have a DM diagrahm or something to that effect. Would really like to know the AH DM strong and weak point areas for each GV with the level of DM (i.e. rear engine compartment .8 armor rating, turret 1.3 rating, etc)
I know some will say hitting a panzer/tigr in the rear is softer than front or sides, but really haven't noticed much difference between the areas when averaged out over time.

$0.02
678 rounds from an Osti into a Panzer....and nothing but a "track" knocked out....he wasnt even worried about me...just kept on destroying the field....
WONDERFUL
LOL:D

bldstain isn't just whining about an everyday incident, I know, because I was there at V75.
I know how much the GV model was toughened up against A2G attacks, and how tough it is to kill a Tiger. A lot of the 'I hit the Tiger but it didn't die!' whines are exaggerated and biased and etc etc.. most of the times they aren't a bit close to bringing it down because their bombs just missed, plain and simple.
But this Knit Tiger, at V75 a few days ago, just simply refused to die. About four~five people in multiple attack sorties, combined total payload equivalent of about 30 jabo plane ordnance, plus two B-17 formations determined to knock that single Tiger out(of which one I was personally leading).. and numerous attempts to capture it by land.
My B-17 formation alone sprayed about 10 of 18 1000lbs all around the Tiger, and at least two~three explosions which I observed via bombsight which I have seen directly land on top of that Tiger. That's about 2k ordnance which failed to knock it out. What's more, as I hang around in the buff and observe other people lob bombs, I have seen at least three, four good hits. Still, it refuses to go down.
...
It wasn't until people got determined to kill it, and prepared a Tiger which I followed in a M3 with GV supps, that finally finished it off 'up close and personal' way.
I'm not sure if I can say it is wrong. As frustrating it was to see a single Tiger foiling a capture for the time length which the VH upped four times, and we had to knock it out again and again and again(plus, kill the Osties that spawn with it)... since I use Tigers often too, it really is a mixed-up feeling.

You may have hit the nail on the head with regard to GV supplies...
Why couldn't the Tiger you were attacking simply have laid out multiple GV suppies for himself and then entered the Tank to ward off your attacks?
Sometimes the GV supplies are not noticed by aircraft but the Tiger could have repaired/resupplied over and over again after taking massive hit. You just couldn't see the little boxes on the ground all around.
Just a thought...

2 questions in regards to the two posts above :
Kweassa, just wonderin, were the knits outnumbered as a whole when the v75 battle happened? just wonderin if the same culculation that dictates the perk system might also affect the damage affect? just a thought.
And Hryrxa (sp?), i think supps. for gv's have a shelf life, no? Can they last all night?

GV supplies not only have a shelf life, they can also be destroyed by bombs. Even so, it is possible if the supplies are scattered around that you can survive a long time under attack in a tiger (been there...done that :)).

That's what I'm thinking, too. I've seen smart guys see a vehicle base start flashing, grab an M3 and dump supplies, ditch the M3, re-up an Ostwind or Tiger, see their enemies driven before them, and hear the crying and lamentations of der vimen.

Since the title of this thread implies a choice between "fixed" or "gone", I vote GONE.

big bomb on stuka works pretty well on tigers

Got into a running gun battle with a tiger vrs tiger 2 nights ago in H2H.I hit him with no less than 5 AP and 10 to 12 HE.The HE for the most part just bounced off.You could see them tangent off.I took out his treads and decided to see if you could ram an enemy GV due to a post last week.I ran down and through him. Then parked right in front of his tiger and let him shoot mine directly in the rear.Figguring thats the soft spot I wanted to see how many rounds it took.14 AP shots point blank. The Tiger is tough.Wanna kill one?Take a tiger

This will only work/help if you are damaged.
From Kweassa's explanation and observations, that Tiger NEVER should have had the chance to use supplies, if they existed, when 2~3 1000 lb bombs hit dead-on ... 'cause at that point, he should have been DEAD.
When you are dead, you can't click on the "supplies" button to make yourself un-dead. Very important to remember.
This scenario was obvioulsy an anomoly and is just another story/incident that can be added to the many that have been already brought forth to HTC.
Like aribumba, I go with the flow and am hoping that the introduction of AH II will bring forth many improvments in not only the air side of the war, but also the ground side of the war.
The main question of this thread .. should they be gone ... absolutley not !!!
Despite all the qwerks with GVs currently, I still continue to have a blast in them. People that get worked up to the point of asking for them to be removed, need to take a step back and take a deep breath.
If you don't like the current GV model and it causes you heartburn and/or high blood pressure, then DON'T USE THEM. To ask for them to be removed is ... well ... nevermind.

I did the GV supplies trick in Tiger once. There was a mission inb to the base so i spawned a c47 at each and of the runway, dropped supplies without taking off, then parked a tiger on the runway.
The mission came in and i had a/c strafing and bombing me. Every time a bomb got close or i took damage i loaded supplies.
i ended up landing 20/30 kills from my pintle gun and people ramming me!
Ive had single ping deaths in my tiger. I also got a 'you have crashed' message after i landed one at a town, also i have died from single 500lb bombs that had missed me. So i dont bother using them now.

Answer - GVs should NOT be gone, fixed or no, they stay or I go.
My panzers have more longetivity than my tigers. Was in one for so long causin so much trouble they had to grab Lancs, and I survived THAT.
Finally got strafed by a N1K dweeb and lost both tracks, engine, and turret to 2 strafes. Had someone resupply my and i was off again. :D
GV model is pretty bad, but I don't let it ruin my fun. I just don't take Tigers.
