News flash on Faux from a Pentigon reporter.
On their site now.

MSNBC reporting he "may" be in custody. Pentagon press conference to follow soon.

Did he kill anybody?... If not they oughta give him a pardon and a job.. He speaks good english and is a Christan.
Same w/ Bagadad Bob..
Make an announcment on Iraqi radio and TV.. Tell them to come on in.. We'll give them and their families a very nice place to stay.. the Wye River conference center.. (it's very nice) debriefing and new training.. then send them back to Iraq in some type of leadership role.
That's what I would do.

I kind of agree with you. Some of those "Player cards" were under the threat of a brutal dictator so they very may well be perfect for Gov't positions in the "New" iraq.

What if he was complicit in killing tens of thousands?
-
10Bears:
We're gonna forgive em and give them back the keys.
Yeah, right! That would be agreat example to the world. If you can just say some really scary guy made me do this, you aren't responsible for your actions. Didn't they try that crap at Nueremberg?

Then of course I don't think he should be allowed to.

He would make a good GARGAMEL in a Smurfs movie.

From PBS:
Tariq Aziz Since the early 1970s, he has been Saddam's conduit with the outside world, and his main advisor on foreign policy. Now Deputy Prime Minister, Aziz remains in overall charge of Iraq's foreign policy, answering only to Saddam himself.
You make the preliminary call.

Y'all missed the important part, since he's a christian, that means he must be a good person.
???
What does being a christian have to do with anything?
-
Thx Rip ;)
Toad, from what I understand, Mr. Aziz was only spokesman. He never personally ordered the killing of anyone. This guy was educated in the west.. has good command of the English language and is very smart.
We're gonna forgive em and give them back the keys.
Syze, one of the hardest parts of the Christian faith for me.. is the part about forgiveness. I have come up mighty short many times in my life in the eyes of Christ. I think He may have added this as a test to show human compassion. Besides, we’ve already given back the keys to the police force and most federal employees so there shouldn’t be a problem here.
Yeah, right! That would be agreat example to the world. If you can just say some really scary guy made me do this, you aren't responsible for your actions. Didn't they try that crap at Nueremberg?
Indeed, showing compassion and forgiveness would be a great example to the world. As you recall, at the end of ww2, many former nazis were offered jobs.. they guilty as hell but it would not benefit anyone if they were all hanged.
There are other ways to fight a war rather than lob bullets and bombs onto their heads you could lob lobsters and steaks onto their plates. They like kababs?.. fine.. fine. At the Wye river conference center, we make kababs with filet minion.
Bring their families over.. kids need to see a doctor or dentist?.. no problem. Terik needs a new suit?.. The President of the United States himself could go shopping with him and help pick out some nice ties.
I tell ya what.. Terik would be a lot better than the guy they got .. Champili .. It would be a lot less slap in the face of Jordan.
As for Baghdad Bob.. Well.. he’s guilty of being humorous. No matter what you think of him, you’ve got to admire his sheer tenacity. It’d be a shame to throw him in prison.. Give him a job instead. Same with the generals.. Now.. what was that fellas.. you call that a war? You didn’t even make any contingency plans to communicate with your troops?.. I say you go to Georgia for some refresher courses.. These are smart men they just lack military training in modern warfare.
-
thats true we did hire alot of ex nazis that were responsible for FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR more deaths then these guys.
-
10Bears, nobody posting on this board really knows anything about Tarik Aziz' role in Hussein's Iraq.
What do you really know about Joseph Goebbels even now? Did he ever actually pull the trigger on an "enemy of the state"? Or was he "only a spokesman"?
I wouldn't go touting Aziz until his role has been investigated and made clear.
He may be clean; he may be as dirty as sin.
But if you want to jump to a conclusion on him based on ..... what? what you read in the news... go ahead.
I'm content to wait a while yet.

Toad, who is gonna be charged for thoose thousands that got killed by the coalition, during this war?
Funny how theres only one way of seeing "crimes": The conquers way.
Nope, I dont like it, but theres nothing to do about it.
-
Well Crabo......
Would there have been a war if Hussein had complied with the UN SC resolutions anytime in the past 12 years?
NO.
So, there's your answer.
It all could have been avoided.
Not that you would accept that.
-
No, with the book in hand, it could nt been avoided.
The wmds, has not been found: yet.
Saddam, a filthy rotten dictator, has fallen: yes
The Cause of the Attack is slowly changing to: "liberation of Iraq".
No matter what the cause was, international law was broken.
UN, being made powerless and will meet the same fate as NU.
But, there was no future in UN anyway, it was only kept alive in the vacuum between the struggle of 2 superpowers.
As there is only one superpower left, theres no use for UN.
But, things shift fast, new Politics nd Presidents are elected every year.
Bush administration will have a lifespan of maximum, 8 years.
Then what?
-
Toad can you refresh my memory as to what resolutions Iraq had violated?.. Being as no WMD have been found..
I suppose you'll say shooting at American planes in the no-fly zone, but was that a UN resolution or a US mandate for cease fire?
Just curious not trying to pick a fight with ya.
Scuds... Scuds would be in violation. Have any of those been found?

I think it was just bait being dangled for those who have a real hard-on when it comes to the thought of taking a punch at Christianity. ;)
-
10Bears, they didn't comply with the terms of the '91 ceasefire with respect to disarmament.
17 resolutions later, they had still had not convinced the UN SC... note, the SC... that they had complied, thus UN SC 1441 which was voted for unanimously.
So, had they complied enough to avoid those 17 UN SC resolutions, there would have been no 1441, right? No 1441, no war.
Argue with the UN SC about 1441, not me. ;)
-
Crabofix:
Saddam could have avoided this. Sorry you don't like to hear that.
After Bush? There will be another US President.
The UN... well, let's see how that elite, august organization handles the NK situation what with the UN IAEA handing them the problme of NK's pullout from the non-proliferation treaty and NK threatening to sell plutonium to terrorists.
-
No scuds that I've heard of yet.
But entire squadrons of MiGs buried in the sand. Imagine that, eh? Burying whole aircraft.
Could it be possible they buried a Scud detachment? Do you think they have enough desert to hide them in?

The UN has power? Since when?

Not has, had powers. Since it was founded.
SC is what was controlling it. England, France, China, US and RUSSIA Could put veto against a reselution.
No reselution from the SC, No legitim action could be taken.
There was a international law, that garanted soverign states safety. This law does not longer exist and the power of UN is gone.
-
One little problem with that argument Crabofix and, again, no one on this board has the answer.
It will be a court/lawyer type thing.
The US and the UK say that 1441 GAVE them all the authorization that was needed. Obviously France, Germany, Russia disagreed.
Not nearly as black and white as anyone of us would like.
-
Never the less, the balance is disturbed and UN made toothless.
It might not matter for time being, but things main not always remain the way they are, today.
Remember, there is no defence against Nuclear missiles, only retaliation.
-
Lucky me, who lives far from all this:D

So you say. I'm not so sure and neither will our enemies be, until their missiles don't reach their intended targets.
-
let us send 10bears and crabofix to iraq, i am sure they can turn all iraqis into peace loving people.
-
Well, then theres no real worry. But I am still happy to live far, far away.
You always make me so Happy AK iron. Now I can go to sleep.
-
There was no defense against the machine gun either...
until they made tanks and then war changed yet again.
There's always a better mousetrap.
And if the UN is toothless, it's because it chose to voluntarily pull its own teeth.
yah, it must be great to sit far away from the atrocities and pretend there's nothing you can do... except sell iron ore or steel or ball bearings or something like that.
So, how do you think things are going in the Congo lately?
THE INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN TO END GENOCIDE
PRESS RELEASE
Shocking new videos of ethnic killings in northeastern Congo.
The International Campaign to End Genocide declares a Genocide Alert.
Washington, D.C., February 20, 2000
Shocking new video footage of the results of killings and amputations in northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo were released in Washington, D.C. today by the Christian Blind Mission (CBM), which works in the area. The International Campaign to End Genocide, an international coalition of human rights NGO's, made them available to the press.
The amateur videos, released in raw, unedited form, include images of children being treated for deep machete wounds on the face and neck, amputees, spear and arrow injuries, many corpses, mass graves, displaced people's encampments and burning villages. CBM's Central Africa representative, David McAllister, said the decision to disseminate the footage, which it began to collect in September last year, was an "appeal to the world to intervene quickly," after the crisis worsened with more massacres at the end of January. The most recent massacres are the subject of one video. The International Campaign's Director, Dr. Gregory Stanton, said,"These videos are the sort of early warning signs that should have resulted in robust intervention to prevent the Rwandan genocide. Unfortunately, the expanded U.N. Observer Mission in the Congo will not have the mandate to intervene to prevent such violence."
The ethnic conflict is in the Ituri district of north-east Democratic Republic of Congo, bordering Sudan and Uganda. It is a densely populated area, with over 2.8 million inhabitants. The conflict is between the Hema and Lendu communities, and bears many similarities to the conflict between Tutsis and Hutus in nearby Rwanda. In June, 1999, the cattle-raising Hema minority were awarded land concessions by a Hema governor. The Lendu cultivator majority protested and began to burn Hema villages and massacre Hema civilians, with retaliations in kind. In the past seven months, there has been massive displacement of at least 80,000 people from abandoned villages and fields. CBM estimates that 5000 - 7000 people have already been killed. Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontičres - MSF) states that "The types of violent trauma injuries witnessed by MSF staff include bullet, machete, spear and arrow wounds, and burns. It is notable that among the trauma injuries witnessed by MSF staff, patients with gunshot wounds are invariably Lendu."
CBM, MEDAIR, and OXFAM have expanded their relief programs in Bunia but cannot get to much of the traumatized population. MSF suspended its operations on January 29th after an attack on an MSF team and vehicle.
The Ituri district is currently under the nominal control of Ugandan troops and a faction of the rebel Congolese Rally for Democracy (RCD-ML). They are not reported to be actively involved in stemming the violence. Several attempts to negotiate a resolution to the strife have failed.
“The International Campaign to End Genocide is declaring a GENOCIDE ALERT,” said Stanton. “The U.S., U.N., and regional powers must mobilize now to resolve this potentially genocidal conflict."
For further information and copies of the videos contact: Greg Stanton at 1-703-448-0222.

Tsk, tsk. Dreadful, isn't it?
But why doesn't someone DO something about that? Shouldn't ALL these problems be fixed IMMEDIATELY? What's taking so long?
Ah well, off to the beach.
-
Don't sleep too easy there Crab. Doubtful we'll use those star war rays to kill any missiles other than what's heading for the US.

So the slaughter in Rwanda some years back must have been legitimate.
The UN is a great source of security for people who have blind faith in bureaucracy.

Nope, not a great source of security, but atleast some security.
-
The only real way to stop all this slaughter and genocide is to repeatedly say "Tsk, tsk!"
It takes a gazillion zillion repetitions though.
The WORST thing the world can do is go in and disarm the slaughterers though. Even if the slaughterees might like that, it just can't be done. That would be, well, possibly violent.
So, all together now...... "TSK, TSK!"
Ya gotta "Tsk" real loud and real often if you want to end slaughter and stuff like that!
C'mon... all together now...

Nothing really new, the same thing had been done in Germany, Austria and Italy after WW2. A lot of people, ex-Nazi and ex-Fascist had been hired again in the new governaments, polices and so on ....

10Bears:
You suggest that Christianity would forgive, eh?
Perhaps, but Christ himself violently threw the money changes out of the temple. So, if it's okay do be unforgiving with mere money changers, it's probably okay to be unforgivng to ANYONE associated with the merciless slaughter of women and children.
Crabo:
Nobody said we were going to hang them, did we. But, giving Tariz Aziz a job in the new Iraq is equivalent to having given Goebbels a job in the then new Germany. I am sure that the vast vast majority of the civil servant functionaries will stay doing just that, but as far as the Deck of 55 is concerned, I don't think there is any way they should be allowed to shrug off repsonsibility of propping up SH for decades.
And as far as living far away, I might suggest that while you are far away, you a located right under the great circle path of most ballistic missles, so you should go ahead an start digging that fall out shelter, just in case.
