As the newest AH pilot (Just signed up), I don't understand why one would want to spawn at the hanger rather than at the end of a runway. Please record this as my First dumb question.

Why? Simply because sometimes it's fun to spawn there and taxi to the runway like you're in a real plane.
Other times it provides a small measure of protection against vulching aircraft. Their bullets will damage the hangar while you hit a notch of flspa, nail the brakes and wep it before flinging yourself out into the open :)

Welcome!
Don't honestly know why they have the hangar spawn...
Anyway, before you ask online, a "Goon" is short for "Gooney Bird", which the Douglas C-47 Skytrain picked up after the famous birds found on Midway Island.

For the Buccaneers, when we fly a squad-night mission, we always start out in the hangar, then taxi to a line-up position, then, on proper signal, taxi by flights onto the runway and launch. It's really cool when you see 12 B-17s or P-51s arranged that way. Bad for your frame-rate, but quite impressive.
Our original CO, the late White Wannamacher (aka BRKT), felt very strongly about flying "historical missions" in a "historical way". He even went so far as to simulate the flares used in big-mission takeoffs. We have tried hard to honor his tradition in what we do on squad nights. May he rest in peace.

If a base is being vulched, and you are adament about defending it... starting off in the hangar buys you a few seconds to start the engine and get rolling. Other than that... its just there for fun.
