A filter to block cable reception.

A filter is not necessary.
Your "speed" (for Internet access) is regulated, by the isp, at his server.
TV access is a different (normally) set of routers which can only be used when access is granted.
Unlike satellite there is nothing you can intercept and decode.
This assumes that Comcast is not using the old "constant feed everywhere and decode at the local site" technologies

I think he means if he is broadband customer only not cable sub

If they offer the service separate, I'd bet they'd filter/trap out tv freqs

Yea, they are supposed to.  In Maryland it is two different departments altogether, and they rarely know what the hell the other side is doing.

Remember one lady actually got taken to court by Comcast cable because the cablemodem people kept hooking the cable TV up when she'd call them out for service on the cablemodem.  Stupid people.

ok heres what I mean.. the same day I got my cable modem installed. My analog cable box stopped working. Yet the digital in the other room is. My questions does the cable modem guy install a filter on the line into the home? Id think they would remove any.

First You can try to cycle your dc injector. (for the cable modem)

Then you can "reboot" the security card in the cable box.

If this does not solve the problem you will need to call Comcast and make sure they did not stop your feed.

your cable tv (digital) has a different frequincy then your cable modem. The cable guy might have f'ed up your digital cable while taking the trap off for your cable modem.    I would call comidycast and get a guy out there to fix the problem.

he may have used the split for the cable modem, took your analog box off it

not knowing how your house is wired, makes it all a guess

if you're paying for the service/outlet, call for service, squeak alot about the inconvience and ask for compensation - they'll credit you something for your trouble - we do here all the time (Time Warner now Bright House Networks)

"Then you can "reboot" the security card in the cable box"

How do you do this?

I'll bet his cable box is illegal. If I find out SunKing's e-mail address I'm turning him in. Why should I pay more for cable cause he's ripping off the signal?

when i was at Comcast if someone asked for a credit we gave it to them.. It doenst hurt the company and it makes you happy.

Just dont say you want one month free, just a few days or a week but if you do a week they have to have documents on there computers that you called or had trubble.

Well I called em. They said they are having issues with contracted cable installers going out to the street box and "twekaing" as they feel. Found out I don't need this old box and I will get a credit returning it cause my new tv is cable ready now that i figured it out.

Nice assumption airhead.. you really picked the right name.

I was kidding SunKing. All I know about Comcast in our area is that when they were ATTBI they limited the D/L speed of KaZaA for a time but it seems to D/L quicker now.

Hello, my cable has been acting very wierd, and is stopping a couple of times an hour.  This just started happening with my Comcast cable internet, and this is what I see -

The Internet cable modem box has 5 lights on the front of it, and the #2 light starts flashing orange, then flashes green, then stays green, and will stay that way for a period of time, maybe 15 minutes, maybe 1 hour, but it will go orange again.  I have called Comcast, and they are sending out a Technician.  What is stopping my internet service?  I asked if I was on a timer, and they said no, so I asked if they do this if people haven't paid, and they said no(I pay my bills on time).  The guy on the phone said something is disrupting my service(hmm, isn't that why I'm calling?), (btw, the #2 light is orange right now, so I have to wait until this clears, and goes green again, before I can send this.)  Anyone ever have this happen?  Ok, it's green again.........sending now!

Thanks,
Thorns

sounds like you are on a borderline and something is swinging in and out

does your cable tv reception change?

either in the house or out on the line - if in the distribution, others maybe affected.

temperature swings usually bring out these issues every year (spring/fall)

then again maybe its just a flaky modem

you need them to check you out starting inside with a modem tech and going into the distribution with a line tech if need be

Thanks Eagler.  The TV reception has been ok, nothing noticeable.  The Comcast gent is suppose to be out here in the afternoon.  He will have to measure the RF from the modem to the outside connection, but I see this modem is discontinued from Com21.  I will post what he finds.

Thanks,
Thorns

The Comcast guy has come and gone.  Poor guy spent almost a 1/2 hour just getting the cover off the outside street connection.  He looked it all over, and said the cable coax ends get corroded about this time of year, and proceeded to clean the ends at the outside connections, and where it comes into the house.  So, far he must have been correct, because it's still working and hasn't stopped. We will see...

Thanks,
Thorns

Comcast is my ISP.  They are good.  It's not cheap.  You pay for what you get.   Life goes on.....

I'm done with cable companies.  Sleazy crooks who exploit local monopolies.  Dealing with them is like dealing with the government.
