I have to agree NUKE.. but your statement got me wondering..
for how long? I mean history has shown us that every super empire/world power has risen and then fallen.
so how much time does the US have as the world power? 50 years? 100 years? more?
-
Well ... we have helped speed up society, ya know (well, us and the Japanese). Ya never know. Probably not worth worrying about. Just do the best we can and really, for the most part, ignore the whiners. (Well, except here on the AHBB). ;)

History has never seen a society like this. Who knows what will happen. The empires that have fallen in the past were not democratic.

I guess we'll have to wait and see. 225 years and growing stronger every day.

People ... please note ....
This is a fine example of hands across the ocean. I believe that this represents an improved relationship between Arlotania and Sweden. It should serve to inspire the world and bring us all a little closer. Perhaps my nation can sponsor some sort of organization where we can all live in peace and harmony and stand together against the evil powers in the world? I don't think this has ever been successfully tried before. I think I'll call it the International Beer Club.
Thank you,
I am the ruler for life of Arlotania - life is good.

Ok, Arlo.
Now where do I send thoose Blondes and the beer?

I hope my plans to annex the all the liquor stores and strip bars within a twenty mile radius doesn't sound too aggressive. :(

You're right. We (USA) rule the world (in a good way) because of the economic influences around the world. Many countries out there rely on USA to send humanitarian aid or military supplies.

Yes, our universities suck, that's why half the world tries to get in them.
Perhaps you should take the course, rather than link to it. Then you'd know the differencies between ancient greek politics and modern american ones.

LOL!!! We dont have a budget because bush wants tax cuts back in 2000 and that tax plan is like withdrawing all of our hard-earned cash without our consent. In 1999-2000, california has a surplus of more than $200 billion.
The Californian economy run at 5th place (or $1.5 trillion) after britain, germany, japan, and the current USA. California is the nucleus of the US economy.

America owns the moon and rules earth just as God intended. Plus, what's not to love?

Actually, NUKE.. If you mean that the US owns the Moon cause we landed people there first, well, the Ruskies landed machines on the moon before we did..so I suppose its theirs.

Pushing NUKEs post ahead:
America Rules: All 52 states of it! (Nice one IKE!)
There will come a time, I don't know when it is, whe we will not be a superpower.
In actuality, we've not been a superpower for 225 years, as some in thise post would say.
I would have to say we have been a world economic and Military superpower since the middle of WWII.
BUT IF WE KEEP ADDING STATES, WE'LL RULE FOREVER!!!
I just annexed Puerto Rico! We're up to 53 IKE!!!:D
-
Oh...let's see...... I'll move 4 little tanks in Africa, I declare war at Western Europe, then at North Afrika, then I move my little tanks to conquer Kamchatka, roll the dice then.... Wheeeee!!!! I have 53 contries , I reached my goal and I won , I RULE THE WORLD!!

Not sure about California, but if thier revenue structure is anything like my state, the state income tax is related to the federal taxes. How much you pay the feds and your fed taxable income are two of the lines on the state form.

Monarchy<>Democracy
LOL Martlet... Great Britain is a parliamentary monarchy which means that it's lead by a parliament elected by people and where the government is reponsible in front of the parliament. The Queen (or King) doesn't have any power.
So by democracy definition, the GB is a democracy.
For your reading pleasure : http://www.royal.gov.uk/output/Page336.asp

Without consulting the history books, I am pretty sure the Magna Carta predates the US Constitution, (by some centuries if memory serves) although stripping the Monarchy of all but ceremonial power took some time thereafter.
-
Martlet, you're a fool or trying to be one ?
Great Britain is a democracy since the 19th century and GB was the super power in that century partly grace for the industrial revolution.
Now, please show me what date should i look ?
You can always rewrite your own history Martlet, but don't try to fool others.
It must be hard to accept that your constitution and freedom is due to French idea and help in the 177x...
You'll get other it.
EDIT
Holden is quite right. The first seed of Democracy as we know it was in GB in the 17th century.
-
a French idea?
Merci Lafayette,
but if anything, the French Revolution was sparked by the American. It was the French Navy of Louis that helped secure the surrender of Cornwallis, not the French Republic's.
It was partly the cost of the help to the American Revolution that emptied the treasury of Louis and weakened his monarcy, which allowed the French to sucessfully overthrow Louis.
The US Constitution owes its legacy to many previous documents, not the least of which is to documents and ideas related to the tribes of the Iroquois.

Similar to Kansas. Our state tax computation is based on what you report to the feds on one or two key lines.
HOWEVER ( you knew it was coming right?)
The State has this little page in the back of the book, the Tax Rate Tables.
If reductions in the key lines on the Fed Forms are going to hurt the state, the easy remedy is right there in the Tax Tables. All they need to do is increase their percentage of the take to recapture their losses. Although they'll of course bounce it high enough to get more than they lost.
;)
-
Merci Lafayette,
I never said french revolution was before US constitution. But the US constitution is inspired by the writings of french philosopher like Diderot, Rousseau, Voltaire to name a few. They were part of the French Enlightment wave.
The first true democratic nation was USA.

If you guys are going to insult the US in English, at least buy yourself a good dictionary so you can figure out what you're saying. It's an easy argument when it doesn't make sense.
-
Britain hasn't been a super-power for 50 years. But I don't think any other country in the world punches as far above its weight as Britain does.
As for the democracy. Pur-leaze - we made the modern parliamentary democracy work. And anyone who thinks the UK isn't democratic now neither knows their facts or their history.
FYI, the Magna Carta was proclaimed in 1215 by King John. For the first time, a monarch's power was limited by written constitution.
The current monarchy is a tradition only and figurehead. Not to mention money-spinner.
