Title: Squad rotation?
Post by: Silat on April 27, 2003, 09:59:22 AM
What is the general consensus on squads that move around every camp in order to fly with other people?

That was a great bunch of links in that BBQ e-mail. Thanks, buddy. :D

I think every squad should rotate at least a couple of times a year even if only for a 1 -2 wks soes they can meet more of the community.

I've never been one for rotating squads, any I have belonged to have always stayed in the same country.  However, there are other ways of getting to know other members of the community, the main one being Special Events!  Taking part in any of our events will give you the chance to meet all those players from the other two countries, and fly with them instead of against them, without the need to leave your own country in the MA.  :D

Being called a stick stiring a** one week then saving the same persons a** the next week is one of the benifits of rotating. Altering the perception others have of you or your squad by rotating and fighting with others is one of the best things about  rotating.

Limiting yourself or squad to one country may be some peoples cup of tea, fighting with and against the entire MA community is, for me, a much better and fun experience.

As long as i am having fun, don't care if/who rotates. We have always just flown for one country.

Thinking about it, some of us need to stay static to give some variety for the rotaters!  :D

I'm not a fan - it isn't going to happen with mine;)

The Arabian Knights used to rotate every tour and everyone used to whine about it. So they stopped in one country and guess what? Everyone started whining about that.
So I don't really think it makes much difference. if you want to get to know other players try events like Flossy says or  the CT.

I think it helps to rotate your squadron at most once or twice a year. You get to fly with people you would normally not fly with and get to know the way they fly better than in a Special Event. While I don't discount Special Events I just think you get more interaction in the various arenas.

Hehe, the way your question is worded, you lead to the conclusion that squads move around every camp to fly with other people only. I imagine there are other reasons for the frequent changes.;)
I am in a squad that doesn't change around; we decided as a squad that we won't do that. We see none of the value and advantages that many in here have described and written about.
Many of the pilits I fight against (yourself included Silat) are known to me, usually because I have flown with them either in a scenario or, as countrymen over in the old sim, AW.  ;)  Hell, a lot of them these days now fly for the Damned:eek:
As a Rook we see many pilits we don't know, most of them come and go. But, the ones who remain Rook are so many that we still don't know all of them. Flossy is right IMO, scenarios are a proven way to get to know a lot of pilits one wouldn't know otherwise, even if we changed from week to week, or camp to camp.
To fly and fight in a common effort, and do more than give a cursory 'check six', as happens in a scenario, versus the usual MA fights is a lot more valuable to the notion of community we see written about.
What bothers me more is not country switching, but some of the schlock I see written over CH1:(
Luv and bullets baby, thats what it's all about...luv and bullets

This is what we were planning to do, but we have currently found a nice home with the Rooks, planning to stay a little longer than was initially planned :)

On a personal note, I flew with all countries met a lot of great guys/gals on each side, always been that way, probably always will be.

<-- laughning in advance to the upcomming comments on "traitors, sluts, etc..." it's a game.

PS: I thought Karaya was a jerk till I started flying with him... wait a minute, he is a j*** :D
