Title: Faking your way out of combat?
Post by: davidpt40 on May 03, 2003, 03:53:42 AM
I've tried a few times (unsucessfully) to put my plane into a violent spin so that my advisaries would think I was crippled and crashing.

During the Big Week scenario a group of 15 to 20 Fw190s and Me109s came through my bomber formation and blew us to bits.  I was at 30k and suddenly alone.  After taking a few more hits I put my B17 into a spin all the way to 10k.  No dice, the bloodsuckers followed me down and finished me off (I bailed after losing a wing).

So has anyone been able to sucessfully 'fake-out' an opponent ?

MA is a bad environment for this though, usually there are 5 or 10 guys shooting at half a fuselage as it races towards the ground on fire.

Yes i did it a couple of times sucessfully.
But most of the MA usually shot a plane to pieces. I never waist ammo. If i see him cranking down i brake off and watch what he is doing. If i see him flying straight 10k lower ill go after him again, if the situation let me.

Isnt that what makes the MA so fun? The pure ruthlessness.
If you can survive in the MA you are a good pile it. If you can survive the MA in a plane that cruises at 300 or less you are
a dangerous pile it. If you can survive with a positive kill ration in a plane that cruises below 250 ias you are the ****!

The ruthlessness of the MA is what attracts me.

The scary part is that it's a historical tactic.  I met a B-17 pilot who did this once.

Yeah, he lived.  I'm not sure the spin was intentional though.  :)

Here's the story:

I forgot that he blacked out.  When he told it in person he definitely said it was a spin though.
