Title: Falcon 4.0
Post by: Wanker on May 03, 2003, 08:23:50 AM
I bought Falcon 4.0 way back in....in....dang, it's been so long now that I can't even remember when I got it. But anyway, I have the original game, and I was thinking of installing it and patching it up to whatever the community has for it.

Anyone still play this? Any recommended places to get all the patches?

IMO, still the best sim in PC history by far:

I have the f4108US and iBeta Realism Patch V3.0 installed.

Yes if you want to enjoy one of the most complex jet sims ever made that now has a working campaign with others available for download and don't mind downloading 100mb+ of patches

It's great if you like avionics.

I'd love to reinstall it again.  I haven't played Falcon 4 in years.  Last time I installed it on this machine all the text was blurry.  I think it may have something to do with my maching running at 1280 resolution and FAlcon couldn't handle that.  Anyone else ever hear of a blurry screen?

does it still stutter in high traffic areas even on a good system?
Good sim but I promised myself I'd play it when it ran at 30+ FPS all the time at a high resolution and details.

No matter how good the avionics and flight models are, stuttering, crashes and frame drops completly ruin inmersion for me.

Tried it again with those mega patches, I think it will take a year and 3 combined keyboards before I'll manage to cope with it.

just bought it today. seems ok, and stable too. I will install all the patches and see what I get. I wish it had a bigger manual.

Is this a joke, or could you not find the binder edition?

You can download the 1.08US patch and the SuperPAK3 from here:

Rob's Falcon 4.0 Page (http://gallifrey.homelinux.net/~rlhofer/falcon4.html)

I'm looking for a patch or addon to enable several input controllers. My current version only allows a single one.

Also, an excelent forum about Falcon4 (also Falcon V):

Frugal's World of Simulations Forums (http://forums.frugalsworld.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=11)

I used to have it and lost it in a HDD failure, found a link to a .pdf version here (http://www.kangaldogs.org/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=MostPopular) pretty sure it's the one I used to have, says it's 579 pages long..well looking at the original manual on my desk (whose pages are not numbered) I'd hazzard a guess that .pdf is the complete manual.
