I believe a major war will take place in Europe one day as a result of the EU and the World Court.....maybe even a war between America and the EU.
The EU is slowly taking away each member's sovereignty and one day I believe it will be down a road that there is no turning back from....... with each member state unable to leave or act on it's own behalf or national interests. Throw the world court into the mix and you've the got potential for major sparks to fly.
The recent actions France and Germany have been taking make me wonder about the EU. They seem to want to control Europe ( not new to those countries) and create a division between Europe and the US.
Just the way I feel......I have had a strong feeling for a long time that the world court, mixed with the EU is a time-bomb that will lead to a major conflict.
-
one day EU will rule the world! yay! :D
lol
-
Well, your thoughts are not a voice in the wilderness. But, since we can't dictate what the EU does, we'll just have to wait and see. I think that there is some hope though as I don't see Eastern Europe as being nearly as anti-American as old europe of France and Germany. And in any event, the UK ain't goin that direction either.
But, thought provoking post.

not trolling or scared.
You know how I feel about Europe? Funny, I haven't posted any feelings about Europe before.... ever.
I beleive in what I said. The world court combined with the EU, in my opinion, is a time-bomb for a major conflict in Europe.
Think about it before you comment.

xen·o·phobe ( P ) Pronunciation Key (zn-fb, zn-)
n.
A person unduly fearful or contemptuous of that which is foreign, especially of strangers or foreign peoples.
-
Maniac, read his post again.
Nuke, fear not - the UN will curb any conflict years before it happens. Have FAITH man!!
-
It really isn't paranoia. It's pretty obvious why EU was established. There are many countries that just can't compete with the US economically or militarily. The INCREASE in our defense budget this year is larger than Germany's ENTIRE military budget. Many EU countries resent that, and want to challenge the US on a global scale. The only way they can do that is to band together militarily, and create paper to compete with the US dollar.
In theory, it will be good for both sides. It just depends on the motives of the person driving the ship. France is fighting to be the captain. That's bad for both sides.
-
I don't what's funnier; Nuke's paranoid ramblings or his assertions that he has never commented on Europe.
Thanks for the laughs!

yup it is bad when you got a leader like Bush who has 0% exp. in foriegn relations declaring war on a soveriegn nation.
Declaring that said soveriegn nation IS making WMD's or IS hiding WMD's, and yet none have been found.....
instead of pointing your finger at the French....try finishing your JOB in Iraq and Afghanistan......

Well, it's very very interesting that despite all the shenanigans and name calling and finger pointing, even Slo admits that the removal of oppressive, repressive, maniacal, despotic, mass murdering dictators is :D OUR job. Of course it is OUR job. Slo said it so it must be so! He's only stating the obvious, albeit probably unintentially. Who else could the world look to? France? Puuhhleeeez, Germany? Nope! Russia? No Way Jose!
Yes, we are the world's hired gun, they know it, we know it. So, bash us and our leadership all you want. But, be careful of biting the hands that protect you. Because, you know, that's :D OUR job!

WE.....my country....participated in afghanistan...and are still there.....YOU are not alone.....MY gov. thought you where JUSTIFIED for said action and helped......
IRAQ was NOT justified too my GOV's. view...and so DIDN'T participate.....
when I said your JOB....I meant the action taken there IS not finished in Afghanistan....meaning we CANADA, US, blablablabla the rest....
when I said IRAQ...I meant YOU.....find them WMD's.
and there is no need for too think YOU are the WORLD POLICE(hired guns)...far from it.....cause if you where you'd be in fighting China right now....the have a very very bad human rights record....go police them.
and Martlet if you don't stop using insulting words towards my countries leader I will respond in kind.....and trust me.....I got a few waiting....if ya can't spell it...restrain yourself or google it....and I KNOW you can spell it right.

I'm seriously glad you are amused. But, consider this.
In your original post you said ..."try finishing your JOB in Iraq and Afghanistan" You first didn't differentiate between them and there is no real difference, is there. Second, you didn't suggest that Afghan operation wa OUR job, meaning US Canada and the rest.
Oh and BTW, "hired guns" is not synonymous with police force and don't suggest that I meant police force when I meant hired gun.
Anyway, have a nice Canadian day!:D

Cretin is an idiot. Sorry if you don't like that. Every night there are interviews in the US with Canudian politicians who are just waiting until he leaves.
He's a bitter nobody, at the end of his career, that has decided to use his office to further his own personal objectives since he will not have to face the repercussions. He cares not how this will affect the people of Canudia.

Let's see.
Nuke on Britain:

On France:

I view it like this... I'm sure many will say I'm wrong, but here we go...
After the collapse of the USSR, there is no balance of power against the United States in the affairs of the world. We are the ONLY superpower left, and people feel threatened by that.
The EU is merely attempting to restore a balance that was lost. I don't feel threatened by it (at the moment), nor do I feel the EU is attempting to strengthen Europe for a possible war against the United States.
I feel that they are attempting to consolidate the limited resources of each of the European Countries as individuals into a cohesive whole that can compete with the United States on a global level economically, not militarily.
There is obvious potential for future problems as always, but at the moment I don't think their goal is to build a unified alliance capable of waging war against the United States.
Just my opinion
-
United europe is a centuries old dream already.
This is just an another kind of attempt to unite it after the wars, which obviously were doomed to fail at it.
What comes to trading, alot of european countries used to be EFTA (European Free Trade Association) members, until EU became popular.
I'd say the US is too highly promoted in this thread as the cause of EU.

Dowding, the soft spoken the diplomat:
I should think a highly mobile squirrel would be a huge problem to the typical fat-arsed, obese Yank
Hmmm... "I'm a target" or "I'm a gutbucket capable of consuming several times my own weight in fries, burgers, and sugary drinks - at one sitting". Choices, choices - although the latter would need more room. Not a problem for the average Big-Headed Yank, though
Well, no American is match for a squirrel. They have to have an uzi on full auto just tackle one. Of course, this would be done from a speeding car, since actually chasing the thing is out of the question, physiologically speaking

I can do you a little 'droplet' (if you have Photoshop7) that you can use with snagit to stamp the offending article and save it as a gif to your webserver in less time than it takes to read one of your wonderfully edifying posts.

Well, I'd check the Author, the length, the paragraph breaks, scan the first few sentences from the top paragraphs, and take in the headings.
Then I'd decide whether to read it. It's not foolproof though, there are plenty of posts I have read where I get to the end and think ' what was the point of that?', as I'm sure you do too.
But hey, thanks, you prompted me to be creative which I enjoyed!

I think anyone with half a brain (even a lawyer) would know SLO wasn't threatening the President... He was merely threatening to begin insulting him. Basically saying "stop making fun of my country's leader or I'll make fun of yours". Innocent of all wrongdoing, but childish at any rate. NUKE you've got to stop reading those conspiracy websites. IT's upsetting you and filling your head with mad ideas.
The EU is not some sort monolithic militaristic bloc. It consists of a number very nationalistic and individualistic countries come together to trade with each other and prevent those periodic European wars which came along every thirty or forty years. It also serves to prevent one particular country from dominating the rest: ie Germany.
All member countries are liberal democracies as is America and no two liberal democracies has gone to war with each other EVER. (Or any two countries with a McDonald's BTW).
The only way there could be a war with America was if the USA turned into some sort of mad paranoid fundamentalist right wing regime who started wars against countries it thought might become a threat to them one day or if the American people thought themselves superior to everyone else in the world and decided make sure they knew it.
Now we know that could never happen, don't we?

By the way, I don't read many websites, let alone nut-job one's. I actually thought this through on my own, using my fairly high capacity for logical thought.
I think a lot misunderstood my post. I meant that the EU member states, being a diverse group, may someday find they have less sovereignty than the thought they would have and that the combination of the world court mixed with that could be a powder keg in europe. I didnt say the EU was a military block.
I see a major conflict potential within the EU due to the laws binding EU states together..... mostly the financial ones that govern how a state must run it's economy. At some point there is going to be a state that doesn't quite like being told how to run it's economy. Maybe they don't measure up at some point.
These states will be unable to withdraw from the EU at some point without financial ruin. the UK will be effected too.
Toss in the world court and it's justice transcending these nations with it's justices not being acountable to anyone, plus EU control over the economies...and you have a real problem brewing in my opinion.
I also see a chance that a war could result and that the US could be drawn into it.
-
True Nuke, but EU members are well aware of this and a series of checks and balances are in place to try and prevent this. Mainly to prevent the Germans or the French simply dominating. The British are very Eurosceptic even to the point that it is damaging to their economy. But they stay in because the realistically are better off in than out.
Who knows what the future brings, but everyone is aware of the dangers and trying to avoid it.
BTW: The world court is nothing to do with the EU any more than the fact of the UN building is in New York means it's an American institution.
Fishu, hmm were those Big Macs there pre or post war 1999? If they got them in after the war, we now know Serbia is safe for democracy. I imagine, right now in the Pentagon, Big Mac executive are planning the first golden arches in downtown Baghdad.

Apparently Churchill was included in those who believe(d)...
-
Churchill was an American supremecist? I really don't think so. And that quote certainly doesn't point to the over-reaching, over-bearing nature of the word 'supremacist'.
Are you really contending that Churchill believed the entire world is untermenschen in the face of American supremacy?
Comforting, I'm sure.

Shaddap Dowding Churchil was an American too! :D

That's right; he had half-American parentage.
Tell me, from whom was Roosevelt descended? Or Patton? :D
-
From fine croatian familes. ;) Actually roosevelt is dutch and patton is scottish. They are not English..
-
He understood the "power and might", of the new world, and I was making the point of military power.
I took it that the word 'supremacist' can mean military and economic supremacy, which certainly has merit in the former and can be argued coherently in the latter.
If you use the word 'supremacist' in the terms of a people, like those who belived in Aryan supremacy, you probably realize the American people are made up of heratige from every ethnic and racial heratige in the world. So obviuosly that doesn't apply, although the best dogs are mutts, not purebreds.
-
I was talking in European terms, rather than British (Scotland is part of Britain BTW ;)).
I don't think economic and military supremacy was in doubt or part of the point GScholz was making. He was talking culturally, or at least that was how I saw it.

I think that's exactly how you feel, no matter how much you joke about it.
At least Martlet admits to being a supremacist, I can respect that. Why don't you? Are you ashamed?
I don't care what you think of me.... you don't know me.
I feel you are a bitter person.
