Go straight to the training arena and request a trainer.  Do not pass the MA, do not enter the CT.

Learn with the stal limiter off.

Start off in spit IX.

Most of all, have patience.  Best sim out there.

 Welcome Gigg.

First I'd highly recommend you learn to fly offline before you start your 2 week trial.  Read the help files and learn all the commands before setting foot online......that way you (and us) avoid all the "How do I drop bombs" questions.

Then once you've got a vague idea what you're doing come and join the mayhem otherwise known as the Main Arena.

Trainers are available for the not so clear stuff (can be booked ahead of time or just show up in the TA and see if one is around) and if you hook up with a vet in the MA most will help a newbie.

For the not so chaotic experience the Combat Theater is open 24x7 with regularly changing WW2 setups.  We also hold the following events in the Special Events Area:

Squad Ops on Fridays - Squadron only event vaguely similar to S3s (I'm told).
CAP on saturdays - Multiple lives, branching campaign and medals (on hold right now due to the scenario running)
Scenarios - every few months a new scenario, current is Guadalcanal, registration required.
King of the hill - last man standing A2A combat event.
Snapshots on various nights of the week - Various setups, just come fly.

Did I forget anything?

Hi, Gigg.  Before you get too far, take a look at this site:

http://www.musketeers.org/kumori/reclist.html

Then take a moment to print off the materials at Help->Game Overview->Aircraft and Vehicles on the http://www.hitechcreations.com home page so you'll know what planes can do what at what speed with what guns.  You might also want to visit the threads on the Training forum here.

Then take a look at the http://www.netaces.org site.

I would suggest you start with the Spitfire IX, then try the N1K2,  the FM2, the F6F, and the LA-7, then the P-51D, P-47, and the 109s and 190s. The Corsair will bite you on landing if you're not ready for the prop torque.

When you're ready to get smacked down in the Main Arena, make sure you join Rooks.  We're a small country, but populated by great players who are always willing to help out a new guy who shows promise (even if you get shot down repeatedly).

There was another post here by a guy that joined recently that also has some good advice in it.

Most importantly you wanna find yerself a good squadron to join. I hear them VF-17 guys are pretty damned fantastic. They have all sorts of fun flying cor-sairs and crashing on carrier decks and stuff. They get together bout once in a blue moon or so but ....

Cor-sairs are fun. Funner than ponies. ;)

Heya gigg if you fly ponys come to Rooks. I used to fly with the 352nd in WBs. I started my own fighter group with dracon from the 31st. Asmech also flys with us sometimes.

The Bronco mustangs another dedictated 51 squadron also fly rooks.

Welcome Gigg!!  It's a pleasure to have another dedicated pony stick join the fray.  I fly the pony for the 412th Braunco Mustangs, a team oriented 'stang squad with some of the finest killers in the game.  We fly rooks, feel free to look me up when you come to the MA.   I have a very clever ID in the game:   Steve

ALL Right!!  Good to cya here Gigg.  I am a WarBirds runaway!  Ex Swamp Fox and Ex-31st FG...One of daddy='s guys.

After 6 years there I got sick of the promises and the never ending warp feasts.  I got tired of flying in Jello.  I was tired of switching out of the Pony to Fly the other side for balance.

To start, nothing is perfect but I think AH is a heck of a lot closer than what we came from.  AH-II will take this up several notches.  You might hear some disparaging words here on occasion but not like AGW in WB's.  I have been here for 4 months.  As Bizket said, he started the 339th Fighter Group, a pony squad, and I signed on as XO.  I can tell you this.  I am not sorry I left WBs.  Here's what I have found:

1.  In game Vox, works GREAT.  You have the room/squad channel and the Range channel.  Range channel means if you can see 'em you can talk to them as in coordinate flight ops and call "6"'s.  Occasionally the Range channel steps on the squad/room channel.  No biggie.

2. Channel 1, Usually full of BS and can be squelched by typing .squelch 1 {Enter}.  I do it as soon as I log in.  Set one channel for country (green) and one for Room (purple).  If you join a squad, set another for squad (red).

3. Joystick:  I spent  along time working on my scaling settings.  Coming from Jello-Land things here seemed like flying in Helium or weightless.  Work on your stick and give it a bit and you will be fine!  As I remember, you are an Excellent "stick" :)

4. STRAT:  Yup there is some here.  Sure there are plenty of Furballers here to.  HOers abound as in WBs.  The GV's play an important part here and many times in order to field capture you must neutrilize the VH's Vehicle Hangers at other VH bases that can spawn to a field.  Troops and ordanance, as well as Radar can be disabled.  Fields can be resupplied by C47's and GVs.  In flight radar is a bit much but.....

5.  JABO and Buffing are a bit different but you'll adapt.

Ok enough for now.  Many of us will and can help.  Just ask!  There's a guy runnin around here by the handle "daddog".  He's a great guy and one of the true Guru's.  You can  ask him anything and get the right answer.  There are others.

Gigg, you are welcome to fly with the 339th anytime anywhere.  We fly Rook!  We are new and we are small.  We do have fun!  Contact us here: http://www.geocities.com/p51_339thfg/menu.html or me personally: dracon@cableone.net

Have a Blast and we'll CYA Up!

The 332'nd is a great bunch of guys. You were around when the Mongrels were in WB. Soft spot here for a great bunch of people.

Cya's up !!

But a word to the wise.

The Knights are the only country I've found that pilots have the ability to complete a whole sentence with out drool getting all over there shirt..

GIGG!  scrmbl here. :) We have met in person. What happened to -eman-?  Bring him along!

I used to fly the P51D in here, but haven't flown it for a long time. Try the P47-D25 - MUCH better than the WB P47. It actually does what Gabreski said it did.

I remember the time we were talking (well, typing) and you asked me to hold on while you killed a 190 in front of you - turned out to be ME!  lol   So then you were chivalrous, and let me land a future multi-kill sortie when you could have killed me again.

Do you still have all those motorcycles?

Biggest challenge in AH is these boards - LOL.

Hey dracon!  What was your ID in WB?  I met Daddy= last month, for the second time, at the Meet & Greet Eurocon in the Netherlands. He plays a mean game of bar football. He put about 10 past me - one for each beer we'd all had by that time.

Ah, well that's most unlike the typical NooB. You could always skip reading the manual, come online, and ask: "How do I bomb? How do I take off?" etc.

What's a 90" stroker?  Sounds like something you'd buy at an online sex shop - LOL. Hehe, I've started on Gigg already! :D  Now then, Gigg, all you have to do to gain acceptance in the O'Club is to tell us how many guns you have, and why. Then insult the French a little, and you'll be a fully fledged BBS BSer. :D:D:D

Yes, Rip1, 4th is still going in WB although I finally gave up the CO job after 7 years.

Note to all:  when flying wing with Gigg, sneak up behind him and fire a burst over his wing.  This will invariably cause him to snap-roll and also spill his beer.

Welcome, Gigg.  I'm an old WarBird'r myself; my call sign was Rojo.  Welcome, and come try the Combat Theater (CT) during your two-week trial.  It's a bit less frantic than the MA, and is set up as an Axis-vs-Allies venue.  Enemy icon range is a bit shorter (3K instead of 6K), as are radar range, and we use mostly historical matchups over some pretty cool terrains you won't see in the MA.  Look me up if I'm on-line, and I'll wing with you.
