finally got a dvd burner (plextor PX-504A (http://www.plextor.com/english/products/504A.html) )
just wondering how any of you other guys are makin a dvd from your home movies
wondering if there is an easier/faster way- here's my steps:
1. capture from dv cam firewire into Pinnacle Studio8
2. edit the movie up with fades, titles, and stuff
3. have Pinnacle create "dvd" files - separate vid & audio files (long time here)
4. open DVDit and create DVD menu & buttons
5. insert dvd files into menu/buttons and have DVDit create image (TS_Video files) (time consuming here too)
6. Open Nero and have it burn TS_Video and TS_Audio (<-empty)directories to DVD. (Found Sony player likes 1.05 format while Apex plays 1.02 and 1.05)
only have gone as long as 1 hour as that is stated as being "best" quality. has anyone gone longer? what's the quality drop? anyone know how to have an animated menu screen on the dvd background?

it takes up to an hour not because its "best quality"
but because as of today the DVD burners are 4X speed writing on a disc that has a capacity of up to 5 gigabytes.

the "1 hour" I was speaking of was the amount of video time I am burning on the DVD, not how long it takes to burn. Burning times are fast compared to the compiling times.
Pretty sure it would be a compression thingy, just wondering about the loss of quality going for a DVD with more than a hour of video..
