Title: Los Angeles Lakers
Post by: Ike 2K# on May 09, 2003, 11:18:41 AM
C'mon, we can sweep the Spurs just like we did 2 years ago! ames 3 and 4 are crucial  to Laker's  survival. If the Lakers win games 3 and 4, it would be like starting round 2 again.

Mark it down....Spurs in 5.

Hoping for a sweep, but the Fakers may pull one out of their anal sphincter.

Lakers have lost the fire.. the horses are there, but they don't wanna run.

It's not so much lack of fire, it's lack of talent.  They have Kobe, Shaq, but nobody else who would start or even get significant minutes on the Spurs, Kings, or Mavs.

Damn, Ginobli and Duncan is killing them. Tim Duncan is so dominant as a power forward that even $haq has to guard him.

I think Kobe is overated.

But Shaq is the real deal, as he goes, goes the lakers. He's a seven foot offensive lineman playing center on a basketball team.

Kobe's taking too many shots and the ref's are finally calling fouls on Shaq.

Can't wait for the Spurs' sweep.  (Although 5 would be ok).

Take kobe away, how good are the lakers?

Now, instead, take Shaq away.....................

Put kobe on the celtics, are they a championship team?

Now, instead, put Shaq on the celtics..................

Or, for that matter, put Shaq on any team.

Shaqs a great center... maybe in the top 10 of all time. Centers have a much bigger impact (unless you are MJ). People who place him in the top 2 or 3 centers of all time are over rating him IMHO.

Kobe is one of the top 10 guards of all time. If you think about that one, it is a much tougher fraternity to break into than the center group. Lots more guards than centers dontchano.

Shaq is in the top 5...........easily. Name one center through time who could go head to head against him. Him and Chamberlain would be a good match, but that's about it.

BTW, why is Kobe in the top ten?

1. Walton - A healthy Walton would run and jump and pass and shoot circles around Shaq. His one healthy season in the pros his team went all the way.

2. Wilt - Quicker than Shaq, Bigger and Stronger.

3. Bill Russel - Defensive genius. Could have single covered Shaq all game long and still collected his 20 boards.

4. Kareem - Was almost unstoppable in his youth. Almost as fast as Walton. Skyhook would have eaten Shaq alive.

I guess that puts Shaq in the top 5.

Kobe may be overated, but he is as good a guard as the league has seen.

The only one of those guys who could bang with Shaq is Wilt.  The others were just too small, particularly Russell.

If Shaq wasn't allowed to travel and offensive foul his way through the game he wouldn't be near as effective.

Non of them could even have got position on Shaq. He's a phenom the likes the league has not seen. Like I said, he's a seven foot offensive lineman playing center on a basketball team.

You said that Wilt is Bigger, Faster and Stronger then Shaq??? That's flat out WRONG. Bill Russell could not single covered Shaq. Shaq is Quicker and Bigger then Russell. Kareem and Walton would be a good match up. Walton could play defense against Shaq batter then anyone... and Kareem could match point for point with Shaq (Shaq couldn't stop Kareem...and Kareem couldn't stop Shaq). Shaq is the the best center to ever play in the NBA...if you don't believe me.... ask Walton, Russell, and Kareem.

Wilt was bigger stronger and faster.

He went to college on a track scholarship. Ran the 400 meters!

My fave centre of all time is Moses Malone; he ranks right up there.  Of course, Magic Johnson played a mean centre one memorable playoff game ... 1980 against the 'Sixers

42 pts, 15 reb, 7 ast, and 3 steals

:)

Kobe Bryant top ten?

Off the top of my head -
Magic Johnson
Michael Jordan
Isaiah Thomas
Oscar Robertson
Pete Maravich
Jerry West
John Stockton
Bob Cousy
George Gervin
- thats nine

I'm also partial to defensive geniuses who could pass like Quinn Buckner and Maurice Cheeks.  There was a small forward called Bernard King who could get streaky like Kobe, but I don't think he makes anyone's top ten forwards.

Wait I thought he was just another guard without Shaq?  How many guards can put up 30 shots a night and still shoot a good percentage, even though the other team bases their entire defensive effort on covering him?  How many guards have the size and athleticism to play 3 positions well defensively?  How many shooting guards are consistently in the top 3 for their position in rebounds, steals, assists, and blocks?

He's a fabulous offensive and defensive player who can play all-star caliber at three positions.  And his numbers would be even better if he was not on the same team as Shaq.  He'd probably have 3 or 4 scoring titles already.  Yep just another guard.

1.) Every forward in the game.

2.) Shaq is to Kobe what Kevin Mchale was to Larry Bird. Sure, Larry put up more numbers, but only cause Kevin was drawing double and triple teams down low. I thought Kevin Mchale was the better player. I think he was the first player to shoot 60% from the field and 80% from the line in the same season.

BTW, anyone see that coast to coast dunk by Shaq last night?

There are plenty of small forwards who couldn't cover a power forward or a shooting guard.  Plenty of point guards who couldn't cover any forward period.  Kobe is a shooting guard who can cover a point guard, a shooting guard, or a small forward, and do it well.  He's 6'7" but has the quickness and hand skills of a much smaller man.  I'm not a big fan of Kobe or the Lakers but you'd have to be blind not to see how good he is.

Hating the lakers makes watching kobe and shak a blast.  I don't think I've seen more distain between two players in some time.

I look back at the Lakers, Celtics and Pistons of the 80s and 90s and I remember the teams almost like they were families.  There were disagreements, but the same kind that occur between siblings.

I watch the lakers today, and I see people that can't stand to be on the same court together, but are willing to give it a go for the team (and paycheck).  For some reason, the term "mercenaries" comes to mind.

Kobe's good, but he has a long way to go before he's great.  Just like Jordan for the first 5 years of his career.  Jordan was not great when he scored 69 points against the Celtics... he was just good.  He got great when he learned how to help others score too.

I hope the Lakers win the series. The Mav's owe them some payback for knocking them out of the finals in 1988. 4 secs left in Game 6 and Derek Harper dribbled out the clock thinking Dallas had a 1 pt lead. They were 1 pt behind and in their end of the court. Lakers took that game, then game 7 and series.

Maybe, but he needs lots of improvement on defense. And it's quite something to get that particular aspect of his game up or near his offensive qualities. We'll see...
