IS BS
did naval flak really follow to the inch planes in dogfight maneuvers at 300+mph from 10K out? Through the clouds and behind moutains? I estimate not.
Would be nice to have some algorithm modeling CV spotting, with delay in aim.
And make the guns damageable, landing as many as 15-20 .50 hits smackdab on a train's wagon's AAA gun should kill it as much as it kills a field AAA. Landing one or two rockets on a naval 5" should damage it, no?
-
Disagree, is not BS, is ES (E of Elephant).
-
would love to see fleet guns able to be disabled . also would like to have the kills of players in the tower when cv goes down :D
-
yeah that's always pissed me off.....someone sinks a cruiser / CV and suddenly the text buffer is filled with "So & so landed xx victories in a ship or field gun".
Landed. :-/
Uh-huh.
We sunk yer arse.

I'm asking me if in RL the Flak would shoot at cons when friendlies are nerby?

Yeah well 4 suicide idiots in a PJ or Jug couldnt kill one CV every time, either...I guess you gotta play the cookeds with the straights

i HATE CV ack, i agree it is total BS.
its far too accurate - especially against perk planes. I lost 2 F4U-1C's to friendly long range cv ack while attempting to cap cv.
And why does it shoot beyond visual range to the CV?
Flying near CV's is no longer any fun because of this.

Reading Eric Hammel's book about the carrier battles around Guadalcanal. In it, he says that during the Battle of the Eastern Solomons at least one Wildcat, and maybe as many as 4 or 5 (which was about the number lost) were shot down by friendly fire as they pursued Kates and Vals into the wall of small caliber AA fire being put up by Enterprise.
So, yeah, those guys on the 50 cals and 20 mm. lining the deck were shooting at anything in the air.
-
thx Baine, interesting
-
Its been well documented that AA gunners were crap at aircraft recognition, as well as aiming!
-
What does AAA and ACK stand for? I know the AA is for Anti-Aircraft, but it stops about there
-
AAA stands for Anti-Aircraft-Artillery.
Ack is just short for Ack Ack, which is the phonetic of AA

U better believe it. would a carrier with 2000 men on board
stop shooting at an inbound torpedo bomber because
friendly was nearby. No way. I'd like to know what the
briefeings were for the fighters, in regards to how close to the
ships they coulod come in safe persuit of the bandit.
As far as 'why doesnt the ack hit the firendlys?' Thats the
wasy it is in every fighter sim ive played in. Dont think I
wanna try it otherwise either.
I hope you guys dont wanna weaken the CV defense so a
spitfire can deack and strafe it dead.
-
it does hit freindlies, doesn't it?
-
yes ben it does, and its very annoying  lol

Furball.your avatar is ......a tragic tale of a poor fellow who,
for some unknown reason found himself trapped in a square with
plugged up water pipe. After some thought, the poor fellow, whom we'll call ..archibald..decided that pulling the plug was soemthing that needed to be done. Perhaps a means of escape, perhaps curiosity. In any event, archibald realized , far too late,
that if the water that flowed from the unplugged pipe was not
stopped, he would perish. After frantically trying to replace the plug, archibald resigned to the fact that, he was going to die, but somehow gathered some peace in knowing that he freed the water from a bondage that archibald himself dispised so much.
