Don't ever drink coffee and eat mashed potatoes at the same time, you will get so much energy that your legs will explode off.
Seriously though, with mashed potatoes being a 97/100 on the glycemic index, and coffee containing caffeine, there is probably no better pre-workout meal. This is even mentioned in some of my running books. However, expect a blood-sugar plumit after about 1 hour.
