Title: Quit bustin my Frog pots!
Post by: osage on May 10, 2003, 03:40:50 PM
I love to cook, and I love high-quality cookware.

I ordered a Le Creuset 7 quart Dutch oven from Amazon a couple of weeks ago. They're made of cast iron with a ceramic outer layer and, being absolutely the best on the planet and tough as nails, they are a lifetime investment at around $US190.

It came in pieces, abolutely shattered. The outer box showed no damage, but the inner one looked like it had been hit by a twelve pound sledghammer.

I returned it right away using Amazon's printable UPS return label and the replacement came yesterday. Again, absolutely shattered.  Same thing, with outer box intact and inner box completely ass-whupped.

Interesting.  Ya think some warehouse monkey has decided to wage his own personal jihad against my kitchen?

I ain't drinkin' no French wine anymore, but when there is no choice if you want the best, I think I should be able to buy French. It's only American to do so. If there was a better American product for more money, I would have bought it.

This **** is getting silly.

"I'll practice my beliefs when it's convenient."

I'm sorry, but I can't read that any other way.

In no way UPS can damage a creuset like that , IMO it was damaged before the shipment.
I've one coming from my grand-grand mother aged about 80 year and still fine, as you said it's a lifetime (and sometime more ;)) investissement.

If you really need help I can send you one from here.

Isn't that kind of the American way?

If American's really need something there is no substitute for, aren't they willing to overlook violations of their beliefs to procure it?

United Fruit, Philippines, Chile, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan...ad infinitum.

This is the way of the world.

Americans, and especially Brits look silly being pious about stuff like that.

No apologies here.

The French have sucked pretty bad of late.

But I'm not gonna let them affect my quality of life by not buying the best product in the world for the task at hand.

However, I am postponing buying that snappy Citroen.

And I canceled my membership in the Communist party.  The French are giving it a bad name.

I work for UPS.  Usually if the original packing box is intact, the 'goods' will be intact also.

But- sometimes the boxes come open and the stuff falls out.  The goods can easily be crushed by other huge packages then.  And as you can imagine, sometimes employees aren't highly motivated to use proper package-handling techniques.

But overall its a good system and we usually don't break too many packages.

My UPS guy, Alex, is really cool.  He's a young guy who used to be in the Russian army and we bull**** about that a lot.

If I'm out, he'll give me a call on my cell phone and tell me where to meet him for the pickup.  He is the best.

He's quite popular with "lonely" women here in the East Village of Manhattan--he gets a lot of door answering with the robe "accidentally" flopping open.

America!  Land of opportunity!

is it possible that amizon is putting off damaged merchandice on ups?

think about it you get a shipment of crushed very expensive pots and for some reason you cant claim you dont want to eat them so... you box them up and claim damage in shipping on each individual order( some wont be broken im guessing. migh be hard to spot as the individual claims are not really large.

just a suspicious mind.

It wasn't the shipping company, it was the FDB gestapo giving you a warning that these types of statements and beliefs will not be tolerated!
