I was wanting to know if anyone was interseted in doing another bombing mission like the one we had over Germany. I am trying to set it up so that the Checkertails can do an escort from tunisia to over in italy, target unknown yet. If anyone is interested please let me know. I am trying to set this up for Tuesday Night at 10:00 pm est.

you can count on the 106th to be there with you, our squad night is tues and we are always in the ct, we will be glad to fly heavies or escort, ive been in on a couple of these tues night ct runs and they are a blast, make sure some of you luft weenies are there too
-
If I'm on, I'd be happy to fly a buff for you. Cheers.

I have contacted VF-27 about flying buffs, so I think that is a go in that department. The Checkertails will be flying the P-40E so this isn't going to be a high alt flight. That's why I was thinking about having VF-27 either fly 17's at about 20, or flying the 26, but that is up to them. Snocone if you want to you guys can fly high alt escort and the checkertails will run out in front of the bombers. Now I know you Germans don't want to miss out on this, "HINT" "HINT" JG3. I know you guys have some good numbers now, would like to see you guys up in the air too. This is for anyone in the CT at around 10:00pm est, the bigger the better. The buff will roll from North Africa, the Checkertail escorts will roll from Tunisia. Snocone, if you guys want to fly the spit IX, you can up from North Africa too, I don't think they are availbile from Tunisia. I hope to see a good turn out, I think this will be a lot of fun, it was the last time it was a blast.
-
Sabre,
If you want to tag along in a bomber with VF-27 we would be glad to have you.
-
Spit IX is available everywhere.
-
Yeah, so all you dweebs quit crying.....what a week to have a broken hand....
-
Okay jester,
Didn't know if they were or not, I am just trying to get something going other than the mundane fighters sweep over a friendly base. Diablo, I didn't think I was whining, I was just stating that the IX is a better high alt plane rather than the P-40E. On squad nights, you only see us in 40's when they availbile over the spit. I just wanted to get you guys involved in this thought it would be fun.
-
880 is interested.

Great Squire,
I am thinking that we are going to launch from like around P63, I want to have my guys airborne by at least 10 after the hour. The bombers can launch with the Spits at like A73,74 and get above the bombers. Just bare with me guys this is the first time I have planned a mission this big in the CT. I was thinking we could hit A9, A8, or A7 if still under German occuipation. If you guys think this is to long of a flight, just tell me. I know the 40 has tons of fuel in it, I think the spits will be able to last too.
We have the 106th, 880th, and the 325th flying Escort. The VF-27 will be flying their bombers, what I was thinking any independent pilots or another squad would like to volenteer for bomber duty? It would kind of balance out the Escort to Bomber ratio. So any of you guys that can hit stuff with a bomber come on and step foreward.
The 325th will be flying out ahead of the bomber slightly higher, you guys in the 880 and 106 can decide where you want to be. just need one close to the bombers and one stacked on top of them, for their cover.
I hope this breaks it down a little better, kind of shooting from the hip here on this one. It will be a learning expeirence for us, so we can do more things in the future.
-
We would be happy to participate, see you tuesday for 10 EST, and will follow your lead. Suggest a common command channel for us, I will leave that to you for then. Looking forward to it.
Would prefer my squad in Seafires if at all possible, will depend on the pos of the CVs, but will try to coordinate an rv with the strike. If its a problem we will roll a land based a/c.
I have several books that has some details on the 325ths P-40s and P-47s in N. Africa and Italy. I will give them a read to get in the mood :)
-
No Stream, I wasn't implying that you were whining. I was just making fun of the typical "where's the spitfires" we hear on these threads. It definitely wasn't directed at you. It just seems that those who always scream for the spits are trying to compensate for a like of manhood in another area...:D

I'd be honored, thanks. Hopefully, I'll be able to make it.

Jester, I think the 13th Sentai will be interested in helping our axis buddies do some intercepting of 17's.
-
Squire,
Hey if you want to take up Seafires, I am sure we can get you off a CV somewhere.
-
That was a good run Stream, glad to have helped. We will see what we can do next week. I think 880 can provide the bombers next time too.
-
Well some of my guys were thinking about having a mini TOD in CT maybe like every other week or every two weeks with different things. We just find it boring Furballing or doing cap missions every week. Maybe do a strike mission and take bases, who knows... just putting it out there to see how you guys feel. VF-27 you guys did great.. got some good hits from what I heard on vox. 106th you guys great job, 880 great job flying cover, my mistake and the 325 went to the wrong jump point, so we were a little off, had to much running through my mind being the first time at this. Like to thank the Axis guys too, you guys gave us a run for our money.
-
Sorry I missed it, guys. I laid down on the bed for a few minutes and woke up two hours later.
Sabre
AWOL, but well rested

It was fun other than MALTA being the target instead of SICILY as was stated in the above posts. :p As such, and also given the amount of DAR bar manipulating the Allieds did, the buffs pretty much got a free drop on Malta before many Axis could make a run at the buffs. It was fun finally getting to make a run, but 15-20 minutes chasing bar dars while thinking the attack was coming up north (so that's where we left from) wasn't fun at all.
-
Joint ops are definately in our future, its good to team up and do things that are not just fighter sweeps, I agree. Let me know whats cooking next, be glad to add some players. 880 and VF-27 have done joint missions before too.
Next week is a Pac setup, I haven't flow the P-38L in a while in the CT, was thinking along those lines.
-
Cool maybe they will have the Jug or the 51 in there too. Do some attack missions.
-
Sorry Nifty,
The intial drop was at 7,8, or 9, but in mid flight, we saw that Malta was getting pounded and decided to head down there. I don't know about what was going on with dar, wasn't my intention to mess with that. Well next time I plan one I will be better prepared on every aspect.
-
Was a good mission Stream.
I wouldn't sweat the dar thing, we both know there was no intentional "manipulation of the dar". Unless of course you count the LW destroying all allied dar (bar dar and all) as they did last night during the mission. Of course that's not cheesy at all I suppose.
And as far as giving intel to the other side, I would give less not more. I've never been fond of giving the opposition the exact target, but that's just me and I know I'm in the minority on that issue.
I look forward to the next one Stream.

from our end, it looked like you guys were skirting sector lines. Maybe it was the dar acting weird, but at one point you had us going several sectors away from your eventual target. Maybe that's when you guys decided to hit Malta instead. At any rate, the bars combined with the BBS pulled most of us WAY out of position to defend Malta. It's not really that big of a deal, my point was it's just not much fun chasing bardar around for 20 mins.
As for not announcing your target... that's up to you. Not announcing it will more often than not mean you'll get to the target without being intercepted and you'll just deal with defenders after your drop. There can be a lot of ground to cover in these arenas, and as you saw last night, bar dar can be very misleading (it looked like you guys were heading North to Sicily, then make a turn to the east to hit targets. You were up into the 8,9 sector at one point.)
I agree with you on hitting HQs though. I can't stand losing DAR in the CT, you really need it to find the fights. I wish HQs could be invincible in the CT.
-
I remember seeing 3 really large red darbars, 2 to the west of sicily and one south. Had us really confused!!! Then we saw malta turning green...talk about REALLY confusing the situation...it got so bad down there that, after squad time, me and 2 other Knights drove GV's from A9 to A10 and took it with no opposition. Well, except for the Spit that tried to take off as the goon was landing...park an M16 parallel to the runway and slightly off in the middle, Spit turned to flame and twisted metal. PS, anyone know why the hell malta gives the FR such a HUGE hit?????
-
We took off and headed east. Not much to that. After you guys blitzed Malta we said what the hell and changed course. Never heard of dar bar manipulation before. I dont know what else we could have done to help the Axis find us. Maybe you guys could have an "observer" ride along and give out positions:D
-
ahh, it's easy to do. Let's take your example of going east. Get on the top of the sector you're going through, and gradually drift into the sector above, while still going mostly east. On BAR it looks like your flight is heading to the North, while in reality you're heading East. This can really throw off an intercept because you don't go directly to the sector, you go ahead of where you think the bar is going. So to us, it looked like you were going North, so from where we were, we started heading Northwest to intercept you heading "North." In reality the buffs were heading East at this point, which we didn't realize until the BAR went to the sector down and to the right (we were expecting up, up to the right or just right.) It was about that time I said "umm, they might be going to Malta." We made best speed to Malta, and the B-17s had already dropped and were turning to make a second pass.
So what probably happened is you unintentionally did what I said. Skirted a sector line and made it look like you were going North when you were actually going East.
-
You guys should do the bombing next time.
-
us guys? there's just one of me. I just hooked up with a few other independents on Tuesday nite. My squad doesn't fly CT much during the week. :)
