A group of us had infiltrated an enemy base and I was sitting there in my P4 with the engine off waiting for our goon to capture the base. I see an Il-2 taking off, so I start lobbing HE rounds at him. I'm missing badly and he gets off the ground about half way down the runway. I'm trying to time my shots, and finally, I hit his left wing. The wing snaps off and he plummets to the ground in a fireball. It was so totally cool I almost came in my pants.
You can all slap me now for not having my camera on.

I was sneaking up on a field one time and was just about in range to start taking out enemy ack (1k or so) when I see this La-7 coming in for a landing at the opposite end of the field. He looked to be damaged with half a wing gone and trailing smoke. He came in fast and was using the whole runway to land. I saw his range counter rapidly decreasing and realized it would make fo ran easy shot, so I selected HE and waited (knowing I'd only get one shot before he exited).
The pilot didn't see me until the very end. He started really slowing at 1.5k (just when he could see me) so I launched a shot leading him just a tad bit. He stopped right after I fired exactly where I was aiming. He must have already hit the "." and was almost about to hit the "e" when the HE round hit his plane.
Now THAT was a sweet shot. :D The cussing that ensued was pretty fun too.

I've done something similar with an AP round (truer trajectory). The victim was airborne and coming down to strafe me with rockets and 30mm shells. I fired an AP round at about the same time he fired his first rocket. I forgot the tank gun barrel is just to the right of the aiming reticle, so my shell went into his wing instead of the nose, but the effect was the same. His first rocket fell short and the others went spiralling off into the sky as he tumbled to the ground in a pinwheel of rocket smoke and tracer fire.
It was probably the coolest kill I'll ever get. Victory through superior firepower, baby!

Whats cooler yet is just lobbing 75MM HE shells, or better yet 88MM HE shells near the spawn point on the runway...close is close enough ;)

I've gotten my share of GV spawn vulches, including one cherished 1800-yard vulch of a 262 (*BOOM* Thank you for spending your 200 perkies), but I've only managed two ground-to-air main-gun kills. One was on a TBM that was diving in on my PzKpfw IV; I put an HE round square on his engine, and it looked like everything that could come apart did. The other was on a Mossie that was diving on my M8; I put a 37mm HE round into his right wing root and watched the wing and engine fall off as he rolled over and dove into the ground.

Got hit by a shell from a shore battery( I was in an f4u), we both laughed our tails off. His first words were, "that had to hurt", lmao, I almost fell outta my chair. What a shot.

lol sixpence.. I think that was me in the shore battery. I was reading the thread, thinking I would tell my story, then I read yours and broke out laughing. I gotta check and see if I filmed it... there were a couple of guys strafing my emplacement, and I thought, "Why not?!", so I might have turned on the recorder. Funny part was, it wasn't an instant kill... there was the hit flash, then the beginning of the crumble, then the plane soared out of sight over the top of the emplacement, then a kill message. 'Twas hilarious. :D

when the panzer was first introduced it was commonplace to make ground to air kills with the 75mm, but HTC took all the fun out of it by adding more "realness".

First night there was a panzer in the game I was killed in a hogc by a 3k crossing shot by a panzer..
man did I whine.

Once in tank city there was a B17 flying about 3000 ft AGL. I was sitting in a panzer and saw him closing in, not going straight over me but about 1 mile from my right, so it was not a HO situation.
Well I had nothing better to do so I tracked him with my turret and at range of 1.7 on superradarlaserrangefinder I pulled lead and shot... I looked the shell and plane trajectories to close and finally the AP shell hit the Fortīs tail.. Boy was I surprised!!!! The tail went off and down he came..
And when in Flak I cant hit a barn wall from inside the barn..

I once in a panzer and i saw a low flying B17, I fired at AP round at said b17. The round hit him right on his left wing root.
I was expecting the wing to fall off, but it didn't :(
So I switched to my pintle gun and proceeded to fill his roof (he was turning at the time) with small holes.
I guess the sound was pissing him off, cos next thing i know his wing flops down and his plane flips over, it was more funny cos I knew the guy.
I've also killed people with smoke shells:D

Once i've climbed a mountain in a panzer and got 4 kills against planes straffing my panzer with my turret gun.

Was in an LVT 4 recently.
F4f strafed me 3 times, took out all my mg's.
by this time he was fairly low so lined him up in the 75mm big gun.
Fired once 1.5 & just missed, Fired again at 400 and looked like round took prop spinner apart, traveled into the fuse of plane & exploded.
For a split second it looked like one of those exploded mechanics drawings of a plane.
course then his buddy came in & killed me but thats another story.
