Not really an fan of Golf usually, i like Tiger Woods Golf on the X-box tough :D
But, Annika Sörenstam (Swedish Gal) is joining the mens tour! And the Gents are terrified djudging by their comments LOL!
Only Tiger Woods is supporting her....
They have flung some very bad comments against her! they are afraid to loose against an girl!
WTG Annika!!
-
That's not entirely true, several others are suppoting her... Some indian fuk isn't though, say she should stay where she belongs.
-
Ya, the indian guy is Wijay Singh or something like that, good to hear about more support for her...
Even an Swedish pro named Jesper Parnevik is critizising Annika and they are from the same country...
-
I really hope she beats the crap out of the gents...damn that would be funny.
My bet is that is why some of the guys are somewhat critical...they have balls of glass and cant handle the fact that they might get beaten by a girl. F*cking pansies.
-
No problems if she wants to play. But...she should tee off at the Mens tee. Then, any PGA pro should be able to play on the LPGA and tee off on the womens tee's. Fair is fair!

I agree completely,
-
If you're going to play on a tour, you should play by the tour rules. If tour rules say you must tee off from the men's tee, then you should tee off from the men's tee.
In my opinion, letting 1 guy use a cart while the others walk isn't in the spirit of the game. When that decision was handed down, I quit following pro golf (not that I really followed it much anyway).
-
well... if it is the "mens tour" then only men should play in it.

-
1st off this is only a promo tourny.......
SHE WAS INVITED.....handsomehunk
and she will be using the mens tee......
and its Vijah Singh.....
Laz go back to your cave....:p
-
Also, don't the tee off from the PRO Tees anyway?
-
if it is an open tour then she should be able to play... if it is a mens tour then she shouldn't. Or... should men be able to play in the womens tour?
lazs

She won't make the cut.

Do you ever make posts where you don't call someone a name? Or is that just inherently French of you?

it's a PGA tour event. I am not sure that there is provisions in the PGA charter that says you have to be a man to compete in tour events.
It's an invitational event, not an open event. She received one of the 8 sponsor's invitations. The players taking exception to the invitation's main objections is that she is taking the place of a PGA Tour player. They think if she is to play in a PGA event, she should qualify for the Tour itself, not just get a Sponsor's invite. The Tour players are also miffed when those invites go to other non-Tour players in a PGA event, so this is not the first, nor will it be the last time, that PGA Tour players squeak and moan about Sponsor invitations. The only reason it's getting any publicity at all is that the invitee in question lacks a noodle.
They make a legit argument. Also, Singh's comments were mostly taken out of context by the reporter, and even the words were manipulated according to an article I read today.
What would be interesting, is if she tried to qualify for an open event without getting a free ticket into the event. Then anyone squeaking about it would have absolutely no ground to stand on. She would have earned her way into the event, instead of getting a backdoor Sponsor's invitation.

I had the pleasure of meeting Commissioner Tim Finchem two years ago. He is a good guy and sums it up well:
"Over the years, unrestricted sponsor's exemptions have been controversial because if you give them to someone who's really not trying to play the TOUR, arguably, they're taking a spot from an individual," he said. "We've got a lot of good players. For a player to be frustrated is understandable. It's not anything new. Guys have complained a lot about tournaments (granting exemptions to) local pros.
"In this case, it's a woman. So it's a bigger deal. I think we should relax a little bit about this. Let it happen. Let her play golf. See how she plays. If you're a golfer and you love the game, it's pretty interesting stuff," he said.
-
It has happened before...
Whats the big deal, it will be fun to see how she does...
-
Wish it was Natalie Gulbis,
Wouldn't mind watching her play at all... hehehe
-
I was under the impression she was hitting from the men's tees. No way she should be in the tournament unless she is.
-
She, and all of the other players, are hitting from the PRO tees.

Can you say "publicity stunt"

Can you say "publicity stunt"
By the sponsors?
As i said, this has been done before, but this time its an girl who actually has an chance to do good in the tournament, and now the multi million snobs are scared to lose hehe!

Sorenstam's feat most closely resembles that of Babe Didrikson Zaharias, the last woman to play on the PGA Tour. Zaharias played the 1945 Los Angeles Open and made the 36-hole cut before a final-round 79 eliminated her from contention.
Phil Mickelson, one of the PGA Tour's most prominent players, said he "definitely" expects Sorenstam to make the cut after 36 holes at the Colonial and said a top-20 finish is within reason.
"I'm as curious as anybody to see how the best LPGA player of today, and possibly all time, will play against the men," Mickelson said. "Colonial is a wonderful course for her to do it on."

Yep, just found that. Also read where the last time she played this course from the back tees she scored 75, not good enough to make the cut. We shall see.
-
It would be the most popular sport watched on TV if the LPGA got a younger flock of golfers in on the sport and they went topless! (http://smilies.jeeptalk.org/ups/layla_phoenix/boobies.gif)

The sponsors would be the ones to want a publicity stunt. It's a brilliant move on their part.
-
PGA is not a mens leage. Its a pro leage. There will be no handycapping..If this is going to happen regulerly then the LPGA shoud remove its L and make that prize money available to the less fair sex as well..
-
Anika will miss the cut. But so what? I don't think she'll embarass herself. And I buy into her reason - she wants to see how she stacks up against the men. Who here if they were the biggest fish in a small pond wouldn't want to try finding a bigger pond?
-
I think if I were a woman on the lpga, this would concern me. If this were to set a precedent and all tours would be open up to everyone, alot of women would stand to lose alot of $$ to the men.
What I see happening is a third tour for both woman and men, this way both women & men's tours would still exist. Or is it this way already?(not into golf)
-
When is the next naked LPGA event? I want to see if this Natalie Gulbis will make an appearance there.
-
I see Anika and Tiger in the final pairing on Sunday, strolling hand in hand up the fairway of life as a symbol of the solidarity of oppressed minorities all over the World.
As they reach the 18th green a small Mexican boy will run up to them symbolizing the run across the border into the promised land. Then Tiger and Anika will withdraw from the tournament before holing out on 18, and they will both move into a commune and write letters to the PGA decrying the rape of the natural landscape by golf course architects.
It could happen.

Saw one at the last haunted house I went through.

Only two good things have ever come out of golf:
1) The golf cart scene from Jack Ass: The Movie
2) The airhorn-distracted golfers from Jack Ass: The Movie
-
And Tiger Woods Golf on the X-Box.
:)

If a chick can beat a dude at it, it ain't a sport, and they shouldn't be getting paid to play it.

You forgot to mention the bazillions of gofers threatened by unrestricted golf course development, not to mention all the evil oil derivative products used in making golf balls. Mayhaps when they stroll up the 18th, they can be pulled in a rickshaw by Arianna Huffington too!
It could happen!
