What a waste of my time and money. Yet another "Sci-Fi" film without much sci-fi.
Let's see, what was wrong with this film:
1. Boring fights. If you've seen "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon", you know what to expect. Which you would think would be cool, except we've seen it all before. Boring, boring boring!
2. Ludicrous massive car chase where all the cars are obviously being driven over ramps on two wheels, causing them to flip wildly and explode into small, thermonuclear explosions. I LOL'd when the bad guy, after shooting about 4 clips worth of rounds into the good guys' car, finally shoots the tires of the car out! We've seen this kind of car chase before, and it was done with much better style and panache in "Smokey and the Bandit".
3. WTF is up with that weird, slow-motion dance sequnce in Zion? I must be getting old, because that part didn't move me at all, I was just sitting there thinking "WTF is this?"
What I actually liked about the film:
1. Mostly Black actors as the heroes. It was good to see that a majority of the good guys were black. That being said, Morpheus goes through the whole movie reciting lines like he's got a bad case of gas and doesn't want anyone to know about it. Talk about wooden acting and wooden dialogue!
2. The restroom scene where the bad guy's chick demands a sensuous kiss from Neo while his babe watches, was cool.
3. I liked the Keymaker character, he was a sneaky little bastige that I was hoping was going to make it through the film in one piece.
Really guys, this film could've been so much better. I am not satisfied by explosions and passe' action sequences that have been done better many times before.
If they would've put more "head candy" into the film, it would've been much better. Instead, they copped out and went the "eye" candy route.
If the original "The Matrix" was Aces High, then "The Matrix:Reloaded" can be thought of as "Janes WW2 Fighters".
'nuff said, don't waste your money.
One thumb down.....WAY down

Why?
Do you have something against OTHER races?
-
I usually find that a lot of black actors and balck white "buddy" movies are veryu contrived... sorta like ones where the women all kick the crap outta men.

No, do you? Why is it that whenever someone praises a little ethnic diversity in something, someone always slaps the "Anti-White guy" label on them?
-
I enjoyed the movie but the things I didnt like are pretty much the same as banana, (See other matrix thread) I just didn't put alot of weight into them.
And yes it could have been much better, but i was satisfied.
-
I'm waiting for HULK. (Saw the preview where he's tossing an Abrams like a toy)
Anybody got anything against green poeple ? :D
-
Wasn't disappointed here.
But I agree with some of the points: fights were cool, but sometimes dragged on (agent smith fight - snore). Nuclear car explosions - every movie has them. Dance scene - waaay to long. We get the point after 20 seconds... they're dancing like dirtballs in a Christina Aguilera video. End it already.
Overall, thought it was good though. Not perfect, but good.
-
No, do you? Why is it that whenever someone praises a little ethnic diversity in something, someone always slaps the "Anti-White guy" label on them?
Insecurity?

As if the first movie was anything special. Cyberpunk for the illiterate.

Why is it when ever someone says something about a minority they get slapped with the "KKK" label?
Same ****!

-Monica Belluci's got a nice round big fat ass!!!
-Carrie Ann Moss wasn't very attractive in this movie:confused:
-Morpheous was kinda boring indeed.
-At some points during the Smith gangbang you could definitely tell CG sequences of Keanu from the real him. Come on-they can do better.
-WTF happened in the end? Was Zion really destroyed? I hate to admit it, but can't wait for the next movie.
Overall, it was better than the other crap they feed us. Haven't seen X2 yet :( Hope T3 is going to be good, but from the trailer it looks like it will be a rehash of T2.
BEST SCI-FI MOVIE EVER: ALIEN II
-
Zion wasn't destroyed, it was the defensive fleet action that was destroyed. Zion is still under the gun, and the next movie will probably start within minutes of where the last one ended.
-
oh ok, that makes more sense. thanx for clearing it up for me :)

Why is it whenever a guy labels a labler with a labler label, somebody labels him with a labler labler label? That's what pisses me off...

But I enjoyed the heck out of the Matrix: Reloaded. I though it was a great movie and I didn't think the party sequence went on too long since it had purpose. Also, how could you not like the Agen Smiths fight scene?! You people are nutty and old, and banana Johnson is your leader, and since he's leading you'd better hope he didn't have burritos last night!

BTW...Are the Johnsons fighting the good fight tonight? I've got some hate I need to distribute to the cyberworld of 1942! :D

I saw it today. It was stupid but amusingly so. We kind of did an MST 3000 thing which made it bearable. As soon as I realized that Zion was full of barefoot hippie ravers I started openly rooting for the machines. Based on the "ending" I think my chances are still pretty good.
-

That's an insult to HTC.

Unfortunatly yes :D
The exploding bike sequence was dumb.
The 2nd ressurection in 2 movies made me want to shot myself for paying to see it :(
The car chase was just hollywood at its worst.
Lotsa of unbelievable and ridiculous action and cars packed with C4. A suicide bomber's dream.
It was pretty much what I thought Matrix 2 would be. :D

THANK YOU!!!
Finally somebody else that sees through it. I thought it was a good movie, but to hear people talk about it, you would think that it was Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Boondock Saints, Hard Boiled, The Godfather, Bambi, and Debby Does Dallas all rolled into one.
What really sucks about both movies, and the third it unfortunately seems, is that Keanu Reeves is in it and has a speaking part.

I'm still waiting to see a movie were Keanu can claim acting credits.

I wasnt disapointed because I pretty much expected what I got:
-Way too many hand to hand fighting scenes that lasted way too long - ex: Neo and the Chinese Dude that was "guarding" the Oracle - "You dont truely know someone until you fight them." Huh?
-Not quite enough gunplay. Guns are cool and should be everywhere in this movie. They arent. More guns.
-Those albino twins... WTF? Ok... cool effects... but they didnt do anything? How do you fire like 1,000 rounds from a UMP 45 (seriously... one hole for every square inch of the car) and not hit anyone in it?
-The new agents... WTF? Who are these guys? Tom Selleck (sp?) could have done better with his mustache and 308GTB. No personality.
-Comedy... why do directors of science fiction films insist on throwing "funny" lines into movies that rely on the audience believing that the fantasy world portrayed is real and serious?
-Zion... ok, right. So in this place, everyone needs new cloths and attends all night raves/orgies and sweats so much the floor gets wet? Great - this sounds awesome, book me a ticket on the hovercraft leaving soonest.
-The other "cool Matrix types" WTF are these people? Why are they always wearing sunglasses inside? Why are their lines "tough" yet "stupid?" "Sometimes things change, and sometimes things dont." Huh? Ok fine... sometimes movies suck, and sometimes they dont. This isnt one of those times. Take your ****ing sunglassess off before I kick your ass.
-AIM Heros United: Why do I get the impression that this movie was made specificly for those individuals who sit online and "chat" with eachother in the Wi7ch3z&Wa4L0ck5 room on AOL? Im picturing a buffer filled with "in charectar" babble about wizard hats and robes and magical spells that bring out the power inside all of us. WTF are these people and why do they insist on existing in an alternate "reality?" Wait... I know why I think this... because deep down inside every ubergeek on the 'net thinks they're Neo and sooner or later Morpheous is coming to tell them "Youre the One."
Hes not coming, go outside. Play football or something. Your Level 16 Gaylord cant save you from unemployment. There are no Machines, there is no grand foolery where your energy is being harvested to fuel the mechanical empire (drink your Powerade) and youre not cool if you walk around in a black trenchcoat. You dont know how to fire a gun... CounterStrike doesnt count... and no matter how hard you try, you wont be able to slow down time and kick some black tie's ass. There arent even any black ties.
Other than that, I was entertained.

I've only seen bits and pieces of "Crouching Tiger", but I know what you mean about the wire-fighting sequences. They were good, and entertaining, but there seemed to be so many of them. Its as if the movie was 20 minutes of plot with 2 hours of martial arts and car chases and bad dancing. The only parts of this film that seemed sci-fi was the "dual universe" concept, the non-linear thinking ("the choice has already been made, the question is why did you choose" or something like that). Nothing we haven't already seen in the "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" premier episode.

Yeah, ya know I had my doubts about the armour rating of the Cadillac CTS. Sure, the styling is square and boxy, but I thought that was for artistic reasons rather than the fact that Kevlar is only sold in parallelograms. Even so, the car chase was good enough to keep my interest.

To me, this was THE WORST PART OF THE MOVIE. It contributed ZERO to the plot, accomplished absolutely nothing, the music was horrible (the disco cymbal back-beat made the whole thing laughable), and didn't stimulate me at all (but maybe that's because I watch "Howard Stern" and "Wild On..." when I fly AH and I've become desensitized to bad dancing). It went on longer than it really should have. It also detracted from the Neo/Trinity love scene which was shorter than it should've been. Speaking of, what was up with that? No nudity bonuses in the budget? Carrie Ann got a case of body image blues? How did this movie earn an "R" rating? It sure wasn't the sex scene.
You forgot one other bad part:
4. If the Matrix world is computer generated, and the rebels who go inside can manipulate their perception of reality, then why can't Morpheus and Trinity "do the Superman thing", too? Along these same lines, why does Trinity get killed by the Agent's bullet if she can manipulate reality, as evidenced by her giant motorcycle jump that starts off her action sequence? Can't she just imagine that the bullet doesn't exist?

I wouldn't say the dialogue was wooden, but it was certainly forgettable. About the only line worth throwing around at work is "Mis-Ter Anderson..." in my best "Agent Smith" voice. Pinkett-Smith's role seemed too small and never really got developed. I didn't care for Neo and Trinity blowing off the "groupie"-type guy. Maybe I need to go back and re-watch the first one to figure out his association with them.

Yes, a very well done scene by all 3 actors, particularly the bad guy's chick, who sort of reminded me of Tia Carrer's character in "True Lies" in the scene when she's toying with Arnold while Jamie Lee Curtis watches. I think a better way to play that scene would've been something like:
Woman: "Kiss me the way you kiss her."
Neo: "I can't. I kiss her that way because I love her. I don't love you."
It would've established the power of love and development of Neo a bit better.

I actually went to the theatre to see "X2" but the theatre changed the viewing times and didn't update their web page, so I saw Matrix 2 as an alternate plan (car was in the shop and I had a few hours to kill until it was ready). Overall, as far as sequels go, it was better than the sequel to "Star Wars: A New Hope" but worse than the sequel to "Star Trek: The Motion Picture". Its a good film, but I would suggest simply waiting and watching it on DVD at home a week before the 3rd "Matrix" film comes out.

All of you read into movies far too much though, I rate movies by one simple rule. Is it enjoyable meaning does it take me to another place so to speak for it's 2 hours or so. If yes I liked it, if I am thinking about my bellybutton hurting on the seat or what I have to do for work tomorrow then it failed.
And Saurdaukar you tell me what's worse playing a role playing game thinking your a wizard, or playing a world war 2 flight sim thinking your a pilot. ;)

That's exactly why I was so dispointed, Narsus. This film took me almost nowhere. I wanted a mind trip, and what I got instead was a typical hollywood explosion-fest. I did like some parts of the film, just not enough to consider myself "taken to another place".

Hey, the black chicks in the film were hot! Which raises another gripe: Why the "R" rating if there's no gratuitous nudity or sex? That scene between Neo and Trinity wouldn't have given even Howdy Doody a woody.
-
There were a lot of exposed boobies in the rave scene, and way to much Neo butt crack. Give it an X.
-
"Just think when the day comes that we *are* able to successfully sue Hollywood...that day is coming!"
You're encouraged by this? What about personal accountability and responsibility? I happen to think it's a good thing for society that these shows and films exist. If we have people who are so weak minded that a movie or TV show or heavy metal album can convince them to kill themselves, then I'm all for them eliminating themselves from the gene pool. Evolution at work.

Thread hijack in progress:
banana....read what you wrote again. Is a naked body or (heaven forbid) SEX what determines what gives a film an "R" rating? Oh dear, oh dear..... I guess its okay for 13 year olds to see graphic violence...but something horribly natural like our own sexuality should be condemed..at least until you are 18?
I find this incredible.
Thread hijack over..carry on.
-
Hmmm.... I understand not really liking the movie, but it seems some of you are actually making things up to hate it even more.
personally I don't need to make up squat..
the movie(s) sucked
-
there were some nips in the dance scene and Neo dropped the F-bomb while talking to the Architech. I think that's why it's rated R if not for the R rating I bet it would have been #1 biggest opening weekend ever instead of the #2 it got.
LOL they Key Maker :D
-
Did anyone else think of the Gatemaster ala Ghostbusters when the Key maker was introducing himself?
-
Yes we started cracking jokes about Gozer and crossing the streams.
-
I'm pretty sure that the only reason the Matrix didn't beat Spiderman for the largest opening weekend was because it opened the day before, and the first day ticket gross was not included... heard that today but not sure if that is the actual case, but it makes sense though. I'd like to see box office numbers based on numbers of ticket sales instead of how much they gross. As inflated as ticket prices have become, it's impossible to tell how one movie does to a comparable opener of a year or two earlier...
-

I wasn't making a morals judgment on the film, Curval....I just felt that some more nudity and gratuitous sex could've persuaded me to give it a more charitable rating.
Frankly, I'd rather have my son exposed to nudity and sex instead of violence and profanity. Then he can grow up to be a well-spoken, peace loving perv like his father! :D

My theory
The point of the architect
It is a matrix within a matrix!
The computers have done this 5 times before right?
They have this unruly 1% that will not accept the matrix
SO
They create a second matrix for these pain in the bellybutton non conformists to "Escape To"
Make them believe they are fighting a struggle that in reality is nothing more than another form of control.
So when Zion gets too big they purge it like a recycling bin in windows.
This makes sense because:
1) The timelines for the founding of Zion don't really make sense, fisburn says in the first movie,
"we are not quite sure when now is"... why not?
2) It is a very machine like logical way of controlling the 1%
3) A. Smith should not be able to do what he did coming into the "real word"
4) Neo should not be able to stop real life sentinels I mean they have freaking 1az3r B3@mz!! He is a ***** in rl!
5) All this messianic crap is in place to control the masses. The one, the oracle yadda yadda yadda
6) The whole battery thing is silly. I bet they use our minds as computers, I mean come on batteries? If we scorched the sky why not take to space. I mean they are machines. They can set up shop on any one of the planets in our system. We are not very efficient sources of energy.
Expect revolutions to incorporate another exponential shift in the complexity of the matrix.
Rememeber folks lies within lies, the matrix is about control.

Yup...definitely my thinking is along the same lines.
On #6: In the first movie, I thought it was dumb for humans to have "scorched the sky" since obviously the sun is necessary for human existence as well. So, it brings up a possibility that was foreshadowed by the Councilman: the matrix lets both humans and machines survive...the matrix may have even been constructed with the consent of the surviving humans.

Ok, before anyone speculates any further, I strongly suggest watching the Animatrix:
http://www.theanimatrix.com
This is official canon, approved by the Wachowski brothers, and explains how the Matrix came to be. The Second Rennaissance parts I and II are about the founding of the Matrix, the other two are stories that take place in the same Universe.

WOW...thanks for the link Chair! Those little vignettes were flipping better than Matrix:Imploded itself! I also tracked down a copy of "The Last Flight of the Osiris", which was AWESOME! I'm still looking for "Kid's Story". I wish they had shown at least Renaissance I&II, Kid's Story, and Osiris at the start of Imploded...it would have really added to the movie since they are apperently very intertwined.

Ah, common mistake. Remember, it wasn't the END, this is just half of a two parter. The second part comes out in November.
The Matrix is a full movie, but Reloaded and Revolutions are two parts of a single story.

What is me, I liked the movie a lot. I liked Matrix too. Maybe I'm just so simple as wanting to see action movies for fun, but I like movies that make you think too...
And The Matrix (both movies so far) are movies that let you have simple fun with a simple action movie if you want to take it that way, AND has a complicated, deep, storyline if you want to understand it and think about it's real sense.. so that is something I really enjoy, too.
P.S. I agree, Zion's dancing scene sucks. Too long. The scene should be there but not for more than 30 seconds just to show that everyone is dancing as if they were having fun for the last night (as they are going to). One minute would be overkill...and they made the friggin scene at least 5 minutes long. That's about the only thing I didn't like in the movie.

I recently watched Animatrix.
Wow. Much better than Matrix Reloaded, IMO.

but read this...Warning, tho, its a VERY well formulated theory; in fact it's so good that it smells like a filtration...so if you don't want possible spoilers por Revolutions, don't look at that post :)

just got back from seeing it tonight.. my review: eeeeh? it was ok.. not worthy of they hype.. id say a 6 on a 10 scale.. excellent effects, what was that sex scene? totally unneeded to tell the story.. we knew that they were in love. I'll see the 3rd film.. but I'll wait for the DVD to come out.

banana, at first I thought your statement below was a bit racist.
"Mostly Black actors as the heroes. It was good to see that a majority of the good guys were black."
For a change, I thought before I typed. My feelings on the black actor/actresses is this: wasn't it nice that race was completely moot? I mean there was no white guy killing black guy/ vice versa, type cast black people, white people being portrayed as bigots... etc. In other words, this "world", from a racial standpoint, is pretty darned ideal. Race simply didn't matter... everyone was merely a human.
without putting words in your mouth, if it's ok with you that is, I'll surmise that you meant something similar to that..if not exactly. :)

What I didn't like about the movie: about all of it.....that dance scene left my wife and I sort of asking each other... "what the heck?"
What I liked about the movie: The Title.

Almost what I tought.... an (n)-universe (Matrix) and an (n+1)-universe (Zion), in a (n-uple)multiple universes virtual world (chinese boxes?), (is this reality?) ala Philip Dick.
A good explanation on why Smith passed in Zion and Neo stopped the octopus.
I liked the Matrix as a Virtual world, something like a pale form of Gibson's Cyberpunk world... (Smith-Virus, Agents-Demons, Keymaker-Worm).
I liked the action, btw, but the "party-orgy" scene was... unneeded (??).
And Monica Bellucci is.... WOW, as usual. :)

Steve
thats just what me and the wife said at the 'dance/rave lets all take Xtasy and undulate' scene. we looked at each other adn said 'whaaaa was that all about?'
and did I miss the monumental battle between the human ships and the mech-octo-things? I mean the whole movie was the buildup to this galactic epic final battle. Did I miss the battle while digging for jelly-bellys in my bag? They IMPLIED the battle.. "it wasn't a battle, it was a slaughter"..

Nah that was the point in which the CGI Budget went to Zero ;) . Did anyone else find it a bit cartoonish the way the Sentinels launched the bombs? All that technology and they dont have a launcher?

As mentioned earlier in the thread, the battle that wasn't shown was the forward fleet action that the fleet commander guy kept saying he needed the Neb' for. The Battle of Zion isn't slated until the next movie.

Can't wait to see those BattleTech-like things in action..and I most likely won't be disappointed because the trailer for Revolutions shows 3 of them poised in waiting for an attack.

Saw it yesterday. I mostly liked it
Yeah, some fights could be a tad shorter, no biggie.
I like a lot how the storyline is going, would have been better for a book, where you can go and reread carefully the crucial speeches, to distill the plot making phrases from the 'action supporting chatter'.
Also, about the Zion orgy bashing, my take is that 'zionians' need to be horny, how else would you get your pop. from just 23 to 250K in four generations? :D
It's funny though, how the most vocal gun lovin' machos feel somewhat uneasy/offendd/threatened by the mild sexual content. I find it amusing that you have a problem watching Trinity's legs and don't have any moral qualms about her speeding her motorbike the wrong way on the motorway. Ok, you can keep the guns, I'll take the boobies. ;)

Steve... all the bad guys were white. Most of the good guys were black (if you don't count all the people at the rave dance... I count all of them as "bad guys")
