Metallica, Barney Help Make Uncooperative Iraqis Crack
POSTED: 3:04 p.m. EDT May 19, 2003
NEW YORK -- Maybe a constant dose of Metallica is heaven for some, but in Iraq, it's making them crack. SURVEY
Of the following, which could you listen to for the longest period of time before cracking?
Metallica/Heavy Metal
Barney
Sesame Street Theme
Newsweek reports the U.S. military is exposing uncooperative Iraqis to long doses of heavy metal music. Sgt. Mark Hadsell said it breaks down their resistance through sleep deprivation and annoyance.
Why metal? Because it's culturally offensive.
Hadsell said these people haven't heard heavy metal before and they can't take it. His personal favorites include Metallica's "Enter Sandman" and "Bodies" by Drowning Pool.
Oh, and kids songs. His other two favorites to make the resistance crumble are 24 hours straight of Barney the purple dinosaur and the "Sesame Street" theme.
:D :) Anything but Barney!
See how tough you are, will you crack?
I LOVE YOU (http://home.attbi.com/~filipm/barney.mp3)
Swear alligence to Amreeka or I play it again! ;)
-
Iraqis know Eminem and they like to listen to oldies such as.... The Beetles.
-
Saw a movie where they kept playing "yellow pocka-dot bakini" on the poor guy.
-
Bring em sepultura.
-
Remember how they flushed Manuel Noriega out from where he was holed up in the Panamanian Vatican embassy? The deal was, the military couldn't enter the place... so they mounted a bunch of huge PA speakers to helicopters and hovered over the building, blasting GnR's 'Welcome to the Jungle' non-stop. Finally the preists there gave Noriega an ultimatum - leave or we're bootin' you out. I've always gotten a kick out of that.
The PSYOP arm of the military actually has what's called "loudpeaker teams" or "loudspeaker detachments" for this sort of thing.
Btw. Grun.... Nice thread title. You really can't help yourself can ya?
-
The title is part of the joke - I was gonna write "you guys were right along :)" but I ran out of room...
Anyway I think the story is hillarious... I always knew barney was god awful evil turture but never imagined it was so terrible that it could break grown men.. :)
May I ask how did you perceive the title?
-
You wanna know?
I perceived the title along the lines of: "My gosh, Grunherz truly is incapable of expressing a single idea or thought without the use of sarcasm". When the post itself has nothing to do with Hitler, nothing to do with Bush, and has really nothing partisan or divisive about it whatsoever, you again feel compelled to use this reaching sarcasm of yours. It is as if you're constantly anticipating what people's responses are going to be, and in defense you spin these imagined responses and exaggerate them 100-fold until they're beyond recognition or (often) relevance. It's just your way of marginalizing anything at odds with your particular world-view as cookoo. The problem is that 99.99% of the time your sarcasm distorts the argument so far beyond any stretch of reality that a discussion with you winds up to be.... tedious.
But that's just me. :)
-
Of course it has to do with Bush and the Hitler comparisons. Have you all forgetton hoe eagerly the anti war types called him hitler and compared the iraq war to to poland invasion, or compred the guntanamo bay prison to concentration camps for all arabs a
and all that crap - well of course you have. :)
So in that spirit I was making a joke that finally there is proof of USA's evil - they are forcing people to listen to barney songs 24 hours a day - what can be worse? ;)
Anyway there must be something wrong with you if you dont see that the post is a joke - hell I even provided a sample of the godawful barney song for your listening pleasure. Its ****ing barney and seasame street - hilarious stuff in this context.
:D LIGHTEN UP NASH IT'S A JOKE :D
:D :)
-
Hey, you asked. ;)
-
lol the Irais were also tortured with "I Love You" song by BARNEY THE DINOSAUR.
from prada.ru
.......It is considered to be the most painful torture to make people listen to Metallica guitars together with nursery rhymes from The Sesame Street and the cartoon Barney the Dinosaur, the one enjoying such great popularity in the USA. This torture proves to be actually very effective: 24 hours are quite enough to make Iraqis speak. As Sergeant Hudsell says, he also was made listen to Barney the Dinosaur's song for 45 minutes during psychological stability tests. He says he wouldn-t like to stand the torture once again. When Newsweek journalists wanted to try the psychological effect of such music, they could stand only 5 minutes.
-
Is that a signature or a gag ?
we don't share the same sense of humour obviously.
-
Ike...get rid of that crap will you? Long sig contests have been done already.
-
Neither Straffo, it's just a lot of text I have to scroll through to get to your post.
Ike, Trim your sig plz? I think 'over-long' would be a charitable description. Man, it must take you hours to sign a check with a signature like that.
-
heck with the tunes, if they wanna crack em, just place them in front of "prime time" tv ie bachelor, mr personality, american idol, king of the hill, etc...
they'll either crack, go insane or leave us alone as they'll feel sorry for us...
-
They should play Aqua's "Barbie Girl" that will drive them insane...
Or make them listen to that freak who sang "like a virgin" from madonna on that American Idol Crap.... about 2 viewings of that clip and I was ready to jump off a bridge....
This tactic is really nothing new... Go to the Dmz youll get our version...200,000 watt concert PA system and on the other side of the wire the chagi boy version.. "Gi go home, you steal our women you cannot win crap at 3 am..
this is basic sysops.. nothing more... funny none the less but basic...
2 cents.

If they were TRULY evil they would play the theme from the Disney ride. (Hide RIP!!) It's a small small world. That would break them and leave them mindlessly drooling on the ground after only 15 minutes. A truly EVIL plan dontcha think.
-
Dude your so right! That song is horid! My mom used to make us ride that ride all the time... I just call it the shooting gallery now!
hmmm This post is nice now that Ike is a little bar that says "ignored!"
-
If this technique is so effective, why haven't they told us where the WMD are?
-
They arent playing the Disney song!!! :D

Hmmm... I thought we knew where it was. That's why we were unwilling to let Blix look for it.
-
ROFLMAO, im a huge fan of Metallica and when i heard this on the radio on the way home form work i could not stop laughing........then they started playing the Barney theme, HAHAHAHHAHA:eek:
-
It's a Small World Afterall is perfect because it can seemlessly loop. It's like there is no beginning and no end to that song...
*shivers in fear*
-
If they really wanted to inflict pain and misery, they'd play a Philip Glass composition.
-
SLAYER!!!
-
THanks for the laugh GH.
I coudnt take barney for 24 hours.

If there are no WMD, why does blix want to go back and look?

We've found more in 30 days than Blix found in 12 years. Why would we put him back in a job he is unqualified for?
-
they should use the theme song to the cartoon rolly polly olly. one of my sons old favoites.

Even worse, play "The Song That Doesn't End" from Lambchop. It literally loops infinitely. Would drive me mad in under an hour.

No I don't believe him. I figure he knows a long term job and how to bilk a living from doing nothing. FWIW I never believed this lil turd. You are welcome to gush all over him if you want.
-
Gee thanx, but I don't recall ever "gushing" over Blix.
