I want to be able to use the FULL 100% of my Cougar's capacity and capabilities NOW  -
RELEASE the FIX for the MEMORY BUG (http://forums.frugalsworld.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&postid=407085)!
-
Dear jesus, could you summarize that in a paragraph or less please? Some of us work and go to school and have to find time to sleep too! :D
SOB
-
Yet, somehow we can find the time to double-post!
-
In short words (though not necessarily sentences ;) ):
while writing my AH-files I came across a major bug with the Cougar's internal memory:
when a compiled file gets close or exceeds around 2/3rds of the available memory,
then your Cougar will immediatly disconnect directly after download -
without any error-message, and with only an un- and re-plug to resurrect it!
I've reported this - reproducable! - bug in January
(along with some further related bugs),
and since then I have typed my fingers wound in order to wake up TM.
In march they started to investigate on this issue,
in April a bug-fixed compiler was ready...
SINCE THEN literally nothing happened:
it's still AWAITING official testing!
I've written an open letter to TM to ask for whatever progress,
and 'to the community' to inform them about this affair:
ONLY with this comiler is it POSSIBLE to download and use LARGE files -
but this compiler has been buried under the old oak tree,
and TM's management is sleeping (as usual) happy ever after...
-
Don, would you care to share your profile? I would like to see it for one thing and see if your issue happens on my system for another. I am sure youve tested that but since what I would really like to see a profile that takes that much memory it seems a good ploy ;)
If you could email it I would really appreciate that.
-
On its way, with the final version to come soon...
-
After denying any delay - let alone inactivity - on TM's side
and insisting on great progress made and many bugs fixed,
and implying - if not directly announcing - an according update to come,
CW-staff have deleted the complete thread.
Interestingly, CW-staff have once again neglected any official character of CW
and stressed the importance of reporting bugs directly to TM.
TM themsoves stated in their official forum
that they consider the Cougar to be out of their, TM's , responsibility,
and that any bugs should therefore directly be reported to CW-staff.
Got it ;) ? If so: like it :D ?
-
It's like the F22 Pro all over again. Oh well, at least the Cougar doesn't have whacky pot problems.
SOB
-
What is it with this thread and double-posting?! :D

yes it does

Furious unfortunately is right (though he'd have got flamed 'n' burned at the stake only few months ago for daring to say this  ):
as it happens, more and more Cougar-owners report dying throttles. While all of the reported cases happened after updating to any of the 2.x-series soft- and firmware, TM's position always has been that it's impossible that a firmware-update could ruin one's hardware. In the meantime, CW-staff have mentioned such a possibility to be under investigation  (only took 'em some months - now, that's quick, ain't it just?).
Other users report spiking of their joystick-axes as well, and I've just recently noticed that my y-axis gets spiky little-by-little, too. So, whatever you might have heard about "sealed high-quality pots", forget it, the Cougar only got normal pots.
Oh, don't get me wrong ;) : I nevertheless do love my Cougar :D - only I'm no TM-groupie and can't stand the continued hype while hiding and downright censoring everything they - TM or CW - don't like to hear, respectively don't like other users to read  .

Cougar owners should erect a statue of you in their own park. Would that help?

ROFLMAO.
DonULFonzo... you're confusing "censorship" with apathy. Few take your rants seriously. It's all getting old and stale.

Evenstrain is just about right. Bottom line is that all new products are hyped and trumpeted to the rooftops. Said product is chucked out in the marketplace. Support dwindles with time till a year or so on no one is really interested any more.
Same with farm machinery.
-
...which is why you just take it 'as is' and as something that's alright and normal
and simply sell your Cougar rather than wishing (if not expecting) that TM would solve these issues?
-
I must've gotten lucky, because my Cougar has worked perfectly out of the box, and I have never updated the firmware or software on it. And I got it when it first came out.
-
Well, take a look at my AH set-ups (e.g found on Cougar World's "files"-section (http://cougar.frugalsworld.com/files.php))
if you're curious to see some reason ;) to update both your soft- and firmware...
BTW, in the included README you'll find the reason for this thread :D as well...

Thanks, Pongo. Finally something of substance in this thread. :D
Greg

Now you have my attention. I will be in BC in October for a wedding. How much?
-
Not BC... Melbourne. Those are the yoke plates from Ian's first run of his new U-2 gimbals (the prototype gimbals are at the top of the pic between the yoke plates and calipers). Gonna be sweet!!
More info at the Cougar World Hardware forum.

At least more substance than this update seems to have :D ...
It beats me why some folks tend to 'discuss' topics they don't have the slightest idea of ;) .
At least you won't see me 'discussing' mods - simply 'cause I don't have the skills nor means for this.
It's odd you, Evenstrain, seem to think your experience with hardware (and I don't doubt your gimbals' quality)
would automatically enable you to to be an authority on the software (and programming), too  .
If you come across a design flaw of the hardware then it is OK to make suggestions as to how to solve them,
but when I come across software bugs then I should better keep quiet  ?
This 'logic' beats me  :
Ian's gimbals (or yours) surely will solve any center-play FOGOLD might have -
however, this will not solve his current driver-issues (the reason why he wanted to sell his kitten),
and the compiler nevertheless still won't be able to compile perfectly valid code!
My reason to say that TM's high-end gear is better than (most of) the rest
simply is its unequaled programmability -
if this isn't fully given any more (mind: the Cougar's predecessors don't have such issues),
then I can't really be content with a high-end gear degraded to a pure Windows joystick,
for I never needed nor wanted such a 'naked' DirectX-device -
and TM themselves kept (and still keep) pointing out its programmability, mind!
-
DonULFonso,
You assume that because my area of interest with the Cougar is hardware related that I don't know how to create programs for myself. You assume that I believe I'm a programming guru (I'm not, and never have claimed to be). Funny thing about the word assume... more often than not it is the first three letters of the word that reveal the character of the person doing the assuming.
You menetioned in this thread about the "censorship" over at Cougar World. You believe a thread was removed there because CW and Thrustmaster are embarrassed by your "compiler bug". Fact of the matter is the thread was removed because you had lowered yourself to personal attacks, including posting with obscene gestures.
What you fail to realize is that few folks care about your "compiler bug" claim. Proof of that fact is in this thread itself. You've had one fellow Cougar owner show interest in your AH profile, and he readily admitted that his primary reason for interest was because he'd like to see a profile that uses that much Cougar memory (I wouldn't mind seeing something like that myself). To be blunt, no one cares. Yet you continue to rant on about this "serious" flaw in the Cougar. Of the 10,000+ Cougar owners, the number of people (those with programming talents are as advanced as yours) who have encountered any kind of compiler problem can be counted on one hand.
The sad fact is you haven't much hope of getting any help with your problem any time soon. You have made the mistake of embarrassing and ridiculing the Cougar development folks (the very same people you want to help you). Last week you posted a Private Message from one of them (who enjoys a great deal of respect from within the Cougar community), an act that did nothing buy make us all shake our heads in amazement at your poor manners. Your constant whining and belittling of TM and CW has forced folks to ignore you there, to the extent that you have taken your soapbox to this and other forums... where the best reception you can hope for is an apathetic collective yawn.
It's disheartening that one with your obvious programming talents is largely ignored because he can't play well with others. One can only hope that at some point in time you'll learn the importance (and power) of working with others, rather than attacking them in an effort to get what you want.
Cheers,
Greg

THe "Leopard" will only cost $800 and will be the BEST jstick money can buy ... LOL
-
Neat how you turn upsides down -
just in case you haven't realized: this is an AH forum,
hence just the right place to post an issue that mainly affects AH-setups.
Admittedly it might only affect my AH-setups due to their complexity,
but the fact remains that I expect my stick to do what the manual says it does -
nothing more, but neither anything less.
How could you deny me this right? You can't, thus you get personal.
BTW, I wonder how my comments here could be taken as flaming?
I'm a long time TM-user (almost a decade, so stop this squeakin' nonsense, will ya?!)
and always have been more than just content, a lil' flaw here or there notwithstanding -
but I'm no TM-groupie, and if that's a crime not to be one then I'm guilty, sure.
However, the current situation to me could seem nothing but ridiculous
if it wasn't downright annoying!
I have RTFM (on a sidenote: I had to - I translated it into German)
and found that much hype on the Cougar being state of the art and the new benchmark
with all its unequaled capabilities and functions and tools -
however, I must have missed this note "but please don't use these means"...
I'll just quit this thread here since I can't help but start to feel somewhat stalked
by someone who's obviously not the slightest lil' bit interested in discussing -
nor in this sim called "Aces High", I might add,
so why not let the fellow simmers make up their own minds?
-
Whats a cougar.....?
And shane, ccvi, vulcan....and all you others dont say "a furry big toothed critter that lives in the Mts".
I am serious what the cougar thing is....work wont let me go to a link.

That person probably was me. What I did say is that I wanted to get the MOST out of my Cougar. How much of the compiler it uses is of no concern to me ... what is of concern is that the compiler is bugged. I don't care if its just me or a handfull ... I/we want to get 100% of what I/we paid for. Why should I settle for less ?
The hardware faults within the Cougar have been easily circumvented by experts such as yourself due to the fact that you can apply hands on ... software failings and the ability to fix such failings don't have the ability to get "hands on" and are held hostage by TM.
I read the WHOLE thread before I posted and it was the next day that the thread was REMOVED from the board. I saw nothing in that thread that would justify the removal IMHO. Maybe they didn't like my post, due to the fact that I was in agreement with Ulf. Maybe they didn't like my story of their shipment/replacement of my HAT3.
I am not a champion of "Ulf's cause" because he is Ulf, I am champion of getting what I paid for. If Ulf's Aces High profile can make my experience in Aces High that much better and easier, then there should be no reason why I can't use it.

Maybe they just were scared of their own bluntant statements  :
both Mark Mooney and James Hallows had said that TM would have been "working on an update"
with "big progress" being made and "many new features implemented"
and that an "update will be released" -
that had been their reply to my post where I simply had reported
that it had taken TM over a full half year from my first bug-report,
and that this bug-fixed BETA-compiler (which works flawlessly here)
hasn't even begun to get tested with the aim of releasing it in an update;
in the meantime, there not only hasn't been any news on such an update
(as already announced in this then deleted thread),
but what's more: David Block, the one working on the compiler,
has been laid off by TM  !
What do you think would happen if I now would launch another thread ;) ,
like "Hey, another two months have passed without any news:
what about this update you had announced?" -
"What update? What announcement? Could you please post a link?" -
yep, the link would be dead since THEY have DELETEd this thread
including these announcements  ...
And fellas like Evilstrain (who don't have any idea of what we're talkin' 'bout anyway)
would again call me anything from a "liar" to a "traitor" -
yep, that's "the spirit of Cougar World" (which is why I don't answer anything there any more):
to PROMOTE the Cougar (as stated in their policy  )
and keep off any potential 'harm' for this shiny idol (such as bug-reports:
the throttle-pot issue: first ignored, still not solved;
this memory-bug: first ignored, still not solved;
calibration-woes: first ignored, still not solved;
dis-connects: first ignored, still not solved;
random loss of firmware: first ignored, still not solved;
and so on...)!
Again: the thread has been DELETEd and David Block LEFT TM -
draw your own conclusions...

And you wonder why people ignore you... could it be that you are offensive, self-absorbed, half-informed, inflamatory, and just plain imature?
For the record here... DonULFonso's precious thread at Cougar World was removed not because it was "attacking" TM and the Cougar. It was removed because he made a personal attack against a fellow forum member. But he wants all to believe TM and CW are trying to "cover-up" something.
And it's spelled E-v-e-n-S-t-r-a-i-n... except for fellows like you, who lack the ability to play well with others.
Have a pleasant day,
Greg

Sure, whatever you say  :
I think Guillemot's past and current PR and 'support' speak for themselves :D ...
(...and it's hard to argue with someone/thing who/that simply is absolutely absent,
both mentally as well as morally  - Q.E.D.!
Do you really happen to believe we'll see an update?
Won't you call me a liar again if I'd ask TM about any news on this topic?!)

Careful there... you're showing your ignorance again (just as you did in the CW thread that was pulled).
Feel free to post your question about an update at CW. I'd be willing to bet that your post will be locked or pulled. And not because folks don't want to address the issue... because of who makes the post.
How come everybody can figure this out... except you? You've simply burned too many bridges, you've offended too many people.

Alright ladies, don't you have anything better to do? Here's a suggestion. Don, go write a file so complicated that it would take a top Nasa scientist to decipher it. Even, package one of your kits up and mail it to me. Or you could both start discussing how much CH Products sucks and get some CH loyalists in here to have a proper joystick discussion! :D

Ask this stalker  ...
Here's a suggestion. Don, go write a file so complicated that it would take a top Nasa scientist to decipher it.
Actually, the matter is not whether "it would take a top Nasa scientist to decipher it" ;)
but simply whether the compiler is able to do what it should according to the manual :p ;
it doesn't, I reported it and asked to please fix it and was not content with getting ignored -
and by this I have "burned too many bridges" and "offended too many people" ?!?
Hey, actually I'd have thought that such things would only happen to Saitek-users  ...
Oh, BTW, if you're curious to see what WOULD be possible
if only TM would release the bug-fixed compiler,
feel free to take a look at the files we're talking of (http://cougar.frugalsworld.com/files.php)
(for EvilStalk I should add another "f", though)
and judge yourself whether it's too much asked to just release a work that's already done...
BTW, while your suggestion to start another flame-war with (or was it against  ) CH-users...
well, THEY have Bob Church ;) -
and HIS support always HAS rocked, still DOES rock and always WILL rock :cool: ;
too sad he's no longer working for TM - for us TM-users, that is,
because for the CH-users that's a heaven-sent gift :D !
-
Is Bob employed by CH Products now? If so, way to go Bob! And way to go CH...he's a very talented guy and Thrusty's past products wouldn't have been near as great without him. I dunno why the new TM/Guillemot didn't hire him for the Cougar.
SOB
-edit- Oh, and I forgot ... CH Sucks! ;)
-
Yep, Bob's working for CH since quite a while now.
In fact, with his current CH Control Manager 2.0 and the included new scripting language
the CHs theoretically can do much more than the TMs will ever learn -
unbelievable, I know, after CH's decade-long chase to at least haunt (if not hunt :D ) TM!
However, I said "theoretically" because it's much easier with TM's syntax
(and much more 'compatible': a CH-scipt for dis stick won't necessarily run on dat stick -
actually, not even necessarily for the same stick but with a different rudder...)
and up to now there simply isn't any CH-user around really capable of using these means
(let alone really imagine the potential :D ).
Anyway, while Bob was working for the original TM
(as opposed to nowadays' Guillemot-run alibi-brand)
and later (well, still, for that matter) with his digital upgrade chipset,
his support was and is top-notch: quick replies, professional help and solid bug-fixed updates -
if it's a crime nowadays to be used to this and miss it, then I sure AM guilty  !
[edit]
Oh: yep, CH sucks ;) (that's what keeps me stickin' to TM :D ...)!
-
Well from what I'm reading here, I'm glad I didn't get a Cougar. I hate to buy something that's so screwed up and the manufactor will not support any needed fixes.
-
Actually, even WITH all its woes and flaws  the Cougar NEVERTHELESS is way superior to whatever you might be using :D !
